I found some retailers sell it, what does it do?

What's its contents?

Retailers are selling it? What area? I want to buy one! (i saw it available from a distributor, but one has to be a retailer to buy from them.)

General Discussion / Best matchups using Apprentice spellbooks?
« on: February 25, 2013, 04:13:14 PM »
So have a few friends that are interested in playing and had a chance to play some games in Apprentice mode (as per the Ver. 2 PDF rules, using the spellbooks on Pg. 3) In the last game I was the Wiz and my friend used BM. When one of his creatures got a "weak" condition, he had no cards to "cure" it. He was annoyed, but the custom spellbooks will alleviate that obviously. Just curious if some of you veterans out there have some ideas about what are the BEST match-ups just using the Apprentice spellbooks?

Thanks

Spells / Re: TangleVine Attacks

Yeah I agree with your point about all the playtesting and balance. Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in a game and forget how much is put into the playtesting/balancing of a game. The folks who did all that had to have considered my point, and found that it was more balanced to allow the "tangled" creature to be able to attack other creatures.

Thanks

So, I am always leery about house rules on these sorts of games personally.  Especially ones where a lot of math and playtesting goes into why cards are set at certain costs, levels and abilities.  Sometimes what appears to be a small change can greatly over power a card, or even under power a card.

Point Taken!

Thanks for the feedback.

Spells / TangleVine Attacks
« on: February 23, 2013, 05:14:01 PM »
I realize that TangleVine prevents a "tangled" creature from hindering opponent's creatures, and that it does not prevent the creature who is "tangled" from attacking an opponent's creature in the same zone, but we had a "house" rule develop in my last game where if "tangled" a creature could only attack the tanglevine on an attack. The rational was if a creature was all tangled up, it had to attack the vine that was twisted all over it before it could begin to attack anything else. Just curious if anyone else has any "house" rules developed around this?

General Discussion / Re: Duplicate mages?

Will future expansions contain duplicate mage cards? I'd love to experience wizard vs. wizard fight for example.

our best option would be to buy a second core set. As far as providing both genders, that may or may not happen, and the other gender wouldn't be exactly the same if it does happen, at least as far as abilities go.

Yeah i agree 2 core sets, and just both use Wizard mage (since OP did not mention gender, but just "wizard vs. wizard fight") Just remember there can only be one same Legendary creature type in the game at any time.

It was two threads with the same title. So I merged them. Since both are about the same region I figured it would be simpler for players if all the info was in one thread.

I would have posted the link to The Gaming Goat but it looks like they have more than 1 location.

Yeah it's all good. The other thread was from back in October, and it was from the store owner of Fair Game in Downers Grove Il. The Gaming Goat in Schaumburg Illinois is closer to me, and i've been starting to convince them to get the O.P. kit.

Makes sense that this location area is all posted under one topic. Just didn't want to have the Fair Game folks lose their topic since i did not see theirs until someone else bumped it.

Thanks

Sorry, it looks like the Mods want this and Fair Game post consolidated. But either way, I'm sending info about O.P. to The Gaming Goat, if anyone else in Chicago area is working on their FLGS to get something set up let us know.

Looks like this was originally posted back in October. Eric, are you still planning on O.P. kits for your store? Looks like a new one is coming out in few weeks . . .  I would be interested in heading down to Downers.

League / Tournament Play / Interest level for O.P. in Chicago NW Suburbs

Hi all,

I've gathered info for the cost of O.P. kits, planted the seed of interest at The Gaming Goat in Schaumburg Illinois by talking to them (The Gaming Goat: 1115 Salem Dr, Schaumburg, IL 60194 info@thegaminggoat.com):

Want to see how many people would be interested in this. The more people we get asking/emailing them about it, the better chance we have of them getting the new O.P. kit. (out in a few weeks). How many people are playing Mage Wars in that area, and would be interested in this?

Well, there's another MtG already on the other! But yes, I do have a plan for a spell book tattoo on my upper arm with the Mage wars (MW) symbol on the cover. It would be a little soon (I have played magic since 96) but I do love the game that much. That one will take a while thou. as It will be very detailed (imagine the brown spell book that in the core set but open and more damaged looking with a mist surrounding it) and cost me more money. (Im also going to get black light ink over all the markings in the book)

That sounds cool.

Maybe Arcane Wonders will finance the MW Tat out of their Advertising budget?  :)

Is that a MtG Tat on your arm? You gonna get a Mage Wars one for the other?

Yeah i saw these of BBG too, and once again Great Job!

Meant to ask you before on BBG (also the one who suggested you post these on this forum in addition to BBG ;)  ), but I'll ask here: Did you use the existing SpellBooks that came with the Mage Wars set and cover those to mod them? Or did you create/use a different binder?

Thanks.

As for the Forcemaster v Warlord spellbooks, the covers were up on the Facebook page.  The Forcemaster book looks really awesome!

Found the pics on FB, they look cool! Can't wait.
