General Discussion / Website Server Work Being Done Tonight
« on: November 06, 2012, 06:00:35 PM »
Hey guys,

Just a heads up, we'll be doing some work on the backend of both magewars.com and arcanewonders.com from about 2am CST to probably about 10am CST. We've chosen this time as it is a generally low-traffic time.

The general changes we'll be making are that the magewars.com and arcanewonders.com sites. We'll be combining the two databases, so that when you sign on to magewars.com, you'll be able to stay signed on at arcanewonders.com, etc. This has a lot of benefits for you guys, and we've fixed a lot of the problems with registration, and I believe we've dealt with one of the dreaded "invalid token errors" that a lot of users have reported.

Again, I have full faith in our programming team and I fully anticipate everything going smoothly, but if you have any problems with your account, please e-mail me at seanmccoy@arcanewonders.com and I'll get it taken care of for you!

Thanks for your patience, your support has grown this community immensely and it's because of that, that we've tried to improve the site and its features as much as possible.

Anyways - here's to a smooth transition!

Thanks again,

Spellbook Design and Construction / Updated Starter Spellbooks!
« on: October 10, 2012, 09:19:27 AM »
Hey gang,

Based on the amazing feedback here on the forums, on facebook, BGG, and through our own playtesting - we've updated and improved all the spellbooks that come in the Core Set.

You can read the full article here.

I have copied and pasted the main improvements from the article below.

Quote
1. You can now build all four mages using only the Mage Wars Core Set. You can build them all at the same time, or separately. But no other purchase is required to build these mages.

2. Each spellbook is now more flavorful and unique to each Mage. For example: we took minor heals out of the Warlock's spellbook (a holy spell in the Warlock's spellbook - blecch!) and instead gave him Drain Life, Vampirism, and Vampiric Strike! These spells now heal, cost him less points, and do damage to his opponent, the perfect Warlock solution!

3. All the spellbooks include within them their counterpart Apprentic Spellbook (marked with an *), which means that you can start playing the game with the smaller apprentice spellbooks, and then when you're ready, simply add in the spells in these spellbooks! This allows you to slowly get to know each of the mages, a little bit at a time, so that you won't be overwhelmed by all the different spells right up front.

4. Each mage is perfectly balanced, with 120 points in each spellbook, so right out of the box you can play against your friends, family, and gaming group without having to worry about customizing your own spellbook. You can tweak these as you like as soon as you get more familiar with the game.

Again, thanks so much for always giving us great feedback and helping us constantly improve the quality of Mage Wars. You guys are an amazing group of fans and we couldn't be luckier to have you!

Rules Notes and Clarification / Ranged +X and Chain Lightning
« on: September 20, 2012, 04:33:54 PM »
The Ranged +X should say: This creature gains + X attack dice when it makes a ranged attack. Has no effect on zone attacks. Does not grant a ranged attack if this creature does not have one. If the attack makes multiple attacks against the same or different objects, it gains this bonus only for the first attack it makes.

This is how all similar traits work, including Bloodthirsty +X, Mana Drain +X, Mana Transfer +X, Melee +X, etc.

So, for instance - with Chain Lightning, the first target would get the bonus, and subsequent targets would not.

Hey all you Mage Warriors!

We're going to be unveiling our plans for Organized Play very soon, so stay tuned! We'll also be releasing Organized Play Kits for retailers, so go to your local game or hobby store and tell them that you want to play in the Mage Wars organized play events and that they should order a kit!

There will be prizes, new spells, and an awesome unfolding story that you will be a part of! Be sure to get in on the ground floor!

More updates to come, so keep an eye on this thread!

General Discussion / Meet the Mods
« on: August 07, 2012, 01:55:03 PM »
Hey there all you Mage Warriors,

Welcome to the forums and thanks for helping us build such an awesome and active community.

In this thread we'll have various moderators introduce themselves and let you know what they do for MW, and what kinds of questions they'll be good at answering. As time goes on we'll update this thread with any new information in terms of who is modding what thread, etc.

For now though:

I'm Sean, I'm the Director of Operations over at Arcane Wonders - I came on board about two years ago and instantly loved the game. I'll probably be answering more questions pertaining to the logistics of MW as a product (ship dates, events, planned expansions, marketing, etc.), but I hope to also answer some questions about story, art and design as well while I'm here. I'll try to be as transparent a resource as possible.

Other than that, I love gaming and even (shameless plug), co-created a game "Two Rooms and a Boom" that premiered over at ProtoSpiel 2012 and will be published sometime in the next year.

And with that, MageMods- sound off!

Edit: Oh, I run a Beastmaster Unicorn Power spellbook, so bring it on noobs ;-P
