Mage Wars Academy / Want to promote Academy

I would love so much if this game took off around here.  I want to start promoting it weekly. If even only 3 or 4 people pick it up I'll be happy.  Have any of you tried to demo games before? Any tips about what or what not to do?

Mage Wars Academy / Opening turns?

This is for Mage Wars Academy, not to be confused with Arena.

We've been having a lot of trouble trying to win with the Warlock, so I've been practicing him almost exclusively.  We've discovered that a first turn Mhegeddon, 2nd turn Vampiress, 3rd turn Guard with Vampiress and then summon Sanguine and putting the 2 damage onto the Vampiress is pretty good, except against the Beastmaster running snakes.  There is zero reason to put out Mhegeddon against a BM, as those snakes with Badger Frenzy will turn your closers into teddy bears. 

I tried using Combustion Demons and Curse of Decay to deal with early snakes but even that took too long, especially when he uses the staff to heal them.  I'm thinking the most economical solution is for the Warlock to pack 1 copy of Arcane Missles and hope for the best, but man that's 4 spell points in a game where deck building is already sardine-can tight.  I know Siphon Life gets past their defense but that's 6 Mana to take out a 4-cost unit.

Any ideas/experiences?

General Discussion / Been out of the game for a couple of years...

So what's big now?  Just came across all the Wizard errata stuff, glad that was finally dealt with.  Are there any Mages that stand out as being too unreliable to use? Which ones are viewed as being perhaps a little too powerful these days?  Are people looking forward to Paladin vs Siren?

Lastly, is it possible to get the most updated printing of the core Rulebook somewhere?  I'll settle for pdf.

League / Tournament Play / Players in the Bay Area, CA?

Just picked up the game, LF players anywhere in the Bay Area. South and East Bays, as well as the Peninsula, are easiest for me to get to.  I could hit San Francisco, but only if I know people will definitely be there and I could play for a while (one game isn't worth the drive, unfortunately).

Anybody else play Mage Wars around here?

Turn 2: Hand of Bim-Shalla, and either Suppression Orb if I think swarm, or I start equipping/enchanting myself.
Turn 3: Continue equipping/enchanting myself, move to highest threat creature.

So, 17pts to go.  Where would you recommend going from here?  Is Mordok's Obelisk worth the spellpoints?  What about Stumble?
