Events / Players in Northern Colorado?

I currently live in Cheyenne Wyoming and it is not difficult at all for me to get to Fort Collins or Loveland. My parents live in Denver so that's not especially difficult. Anyway, I have gaming groups for other games that meet up every now and then, but I'm having trouble finding people who play mage wars. Anybody in the area play and willing to meet sometime for some small events?

Spells / Alter of Domination change how you fight warlord?

I'm curious to see what other people think about this subject. How does the Alter change how you fight warlord? I have seen strategies to fight Talos himself, but as it is a card with very little disadvantage in casting, does it change your reactions in the first few rounds before its even cast?

I suppose for me, it's existence is incentive for me to play a rush strategy with whatever mage I'm playing so I can kill the outposts quickly. It is likely that my opponent has it in his spellbook, since it just takes 2 spell points, I feel like I am always trying to play as if he has it. This to me reduces the fun because it's more predictable, but I digress. I just feel like it means that if I don't rush, then its certain that the warlord will use the Altar.

Thoughts? Like this? Don't like?

Spells / Healing charm vs minor heal

Benefits of each? The best thing I can think of is how charm can be revealed between attack phases but minor heal gives you an extra die.

What are some of the best uses of charm over minor? And visa versa?

I've seen a lot of official and custom spellbooks that seem like they use a lot of different spells but only have 1 of them and 2 of specific others like dispel. This seems odd to me because when I make a book I tend to use several of the same spell so that I can use it on several creatures or extend its effects. I'll have 4 of 2-3 different spells when other seem to use only one of each spell. I'm just curious what your thoughts are on this. Pros Cons? What do you do more often? Am I building mine weird?

Spells / Dancing Scimitar Question

When can Dancing Scimitar make its attack? I ask because it doesn't say like other abilities that will say "before or after a friendly creature's action." I assume it cant happen during an enemy attack. Can you confirm this?

Suggestions? Ideas?
The first few turns I would get gate to voltari and hopefully mana siphon protected by walls. Then slowly work out the big crushy dudes and teleport them to the places they need to be.

Spellbook Design and Construction / First Attempts at Spellbooks

I'm a new player and was wondering if I could get some advice for my first spell book.

Its a Fire Wizard with a focus on assassination. I prefer to play a Juggernaut type character that does a lot of damage himself, as opposed to having creatures do the work. Though, I certainly didn't omit some key themed creatures that can keep the pressure of my mage. Anyway, that's what I was going for, let me know what you think. Bear in mind I'm new and don't have all the card synergies memorized yet. :)

Alternative Play / 2x3 battlefields common variant???

Hey guys, new poster here. I've been seeing a lot of pictures related to organized play with people using 2x3 zone boards. How common is this? Is this a variant for quick games?

On another note, what are some of your favorite ways to play with regards to spellbook creation, spell points, different boards, and 4 player?
