Mages / flipping the channeling paradigm
« on: October 01, 2019, 09:50:49 PM »
most people generally agree there are certain mages that are top tier compared to other mages. there is disagreement on who is strongest among those top mages, but the list overall is consistent enough. I think it is more than simply a mage that has 10 channel is by definition stronger than all others. some are strong because of their stat card abilities and/or training and the 10 channel is just a huge bonus.

below is the list that are mostly considered to be strong compared to the remaining mages. of course there are considerations such as timed events, or unlimited time, but these are mostly the best mages.

in no particular order:
wizard, necro, priestess, and druid

I propose some testing for inverting the environment. what if the paladin, straywood bm, and the above mages channel 9 (druid perhaps 8 ) instead and all other mages were set to channel 10? would people's opinions about who is stronger change significantly? no question the above mages have strong abilities. would reducing their base channeling balance them out enough with the increase on the rest of the mages help level the competition to be a lot closer than it currently is?

just something to induce some deep discussion (rather than have this devolve into a tier rant of any kind) and provoke some thoughtful comparisons. would this channel change make most of the mages more competitive ly even overall, rather than simply saying all mages channel 10? raising the channel bar for everyone to be equal  such as the next admw event does not change the strong abilities of the top mages. so rather than raising everyone up, consider having them essentially swap places channelwise. does that help the lower strength mages get enough of a competitive boost - generally?

it seems interesting to me. and I know how much the mage channels influences the decision people make when deciding on which mage to play in a serious competition.

General Discussion / favorite artwork
« on: August 18, 2019, 01:36:19 PM »
with so many releases this year, I thought I would post something to see what folks love for their favorite artwork in mw. does not have to be from sets for this year, but all cards released.

I like the killer bees for several reasons. reminds me of mtg killer bees where I really like phil foglios art on that one. I used to name my sun microsystems workstations killerbees.

i have a few others but will just go with that one to kick off the thread.

General Discussion / forum name
« on: April 20, 2018, 09:49:16 AM »
I thought this would be an interesting topic.

we have had a lot of new members recently, which is awesome. together with many of us who have been here for a long while, thought it would be cool to see if folks would give some history or info about how they chose their forum name here.

mine comes from the fact that in my second tournament, gencon 2013, we had to register our book and as part of that, we had to name our book. I was playing an air wizard for that event, and came up with zot for all of the zapping and lightning bolting/blasting things I planned on doing. I joined the forum shortly after that event so stuck with that as my forum name.

Mages / favorite mage
« on: January 31, 2018, 02:23:57 PM »
ok the last of the favorites for a while. what is your favorite mage in mw. now, a couple rules. no discussions of tiers, no power discussion, no comparisons to other mages, no strata, no comparing mage stats, no exposition on training, no extensive list of creatures or spells to drive why you pick a certain mage, no dogma about how whatever mage you pick is so good, or anything like that at all. just simply what is your favorite mage to play. easy, quick. pick a mage and done. perhaps one sentence at most.

I love wizards. all the other mages wish they were wizards. wizards are superior in every way to all other mages. all other mages look up at wizards from beneath him in their lower tiers wishing they were that awesome. top tier mage alone at the top of the competition shelf. the absolute pinnacle of power. no other mage comes close. one word: metamagic awesomeness combined with the coolest creatures, and a stat card that is the envy of all others. it is all about power, and the wizard excels at wielding it. heck there is even a song - lightning crashes. 10 channeling. what? that is great. in school mana enhancements. wow. what is the shortest distance between two points? a line you say? foolish imbeciles, of course the answer is teleport. what nerf. pah! hasn't changed anything. no other mage comes close. he is the strongest mage in relation to all of the others.

all you new players don't listen to the inevitable naysayers. there is at least one in every crowd. here will be no different. they will offer up paltry stuff about some lame mage or other. just know, it is all wizard all the time. honestly not sure why they even bothered printing other mages. the game should have been called wizard wars.

Spells / favorite equipment
« on: December 27, 2017, 11:11:50 PM »

mine is suppression cloak. awesome artwork, really makes me wish I had such a cloak. inside the game it is stellar too.

dancing scimitar. cool thematics, mage staff for art too, and helm of fear is sinister.

Spells / favorite enchantment
« on: December 23, 2017, 11:55:44 PM »
ok time for another favorite or top few. decide what your favorite enchantment. no constraints. just what are your top few. could be you love how powerful it is, or thematics, or artwork or whatever.

i will lead off with forcefield. just cool concept.

after that it is really hard to pick a next one or two. so many great enchants.

the artwork on block is very forcefiledeasque, so that is neat. and the artwork on standard bearer is cool too. all of these enchants are also very themstic as well.

Spells / favorite conjuration
« on: December 22, 2017, 11:03:25 AM »
ok clearly it is renewing spring.

followed by ballista which is fairly awesome and thematic. raincloud is just neat.

so any and all replies to this thread have to explicitly state:

"besides renewing spring which is clearly the correct answer, i would say: "

then you can mention your second and third favorite conjuration after renewing spring. all failing to do so, will be incorrect and sent to the back of the line to ponder their mistake.

Spells / favorite creature
« on: December 17, 2017, 10:11:43 AM »
now that folks have discussed their favorite spells. lets go for specific type.what is your favorite creature for whatever reason. coolness, powerful, artwork, fun, whatever. or perhaps your top two.

i am going with the
   darkfenne hydra.

reminds me of the movie jason and the argonauts, and the feared dnd creature. just thematically cool.

second is much more difficult.

   gorgon archer

for the similar reasons.

though love the artwork on the water elemental and it is really cool too.

Spells / favorite spell
« on: October 05, 2017, 10:51:51 AM »
i would like to know what folks favorite spell in the game is. it does not have to the best spell, or one you even put in books, maybe has a cool name or effect you like. perhaps it has your favorite artwork. just which spell is your favorite in the game. now not the top two or three, just one. edit - ok maximum of two.

i think mine is forcefield. cool picture, awesome effect. limited to my second favorite mage forcemaster. it also reminds me of the ninth level mage spell prismatic sphere from d&d.

i also really like the artwork for supression cloak. i think it would really great to have that in real life.

looking forward to hearing what everyone else likes.
