General Discussion / Re: NPE - Could it defeat the purpose of Academy?
« on: October 13, 2015, 06:52:29 AM »
Good post.

So once again we see a problem with the wizard?

Seems to be baked into the dna of MW somehow...

I do wonder why they went for the wizard as one of the two first mages. I get that it is the fundamental magic-user of the game, but it's also always been the Mage that's caused the most trouble. Should have gone for a firelock, necro, or Druid imo.

General Discussion / Re: Is anyone else a little concerned...

I personally think the new game modes are more important in reigniting interest in this game than the new mages. I know quite a few people whose mage wars sets are rotting on the shelf, and need some kind of kickstart to get them to the table.

I sincerely hope these products come at a reasonable price in the UK.

Will these cards be available in normal expansions?

Invisible tunnels is fantastic.

The board is the same size, just folded differently. There are no new cards in this printing. Some of the quantities are increased and the art changed, though.

I assumed the new printing would contain the updated text or errata'd cards... Is this not the case?

Spells / Does anything else do the job of Gravikor?
« on: October 07, 2014, 04:28:20 PM »
I am experimenting with warlord builds. I was lucky enough to get hold of a gravikor a while back, but feel guilty putting it in my deck.

Is there anything else as friendly to a warlord conjuration deck that does a similar job?

Player Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Minor Fixes to Underpowered Cards
« on: October 06, 2014, 03:29:32 PM »
Apologies for the potential necro here, but just wanted to say I just found this, and thought the OP remains relevant. Even after forged in fire, many of the points in this thread still stand.

But I suspect AW's strategy overall will be to leave most cards alone, and let the marginal ones fade into the background, as they are replaced by newer, more interesting alternatives.

The only shame is that some of the game's underpowered cards had such interested potential. The gate to hell sounds so groovy. But maybe they ultimately became too complicated to balance.

It'll also be interesting to see whether any of these cards become more useful with some of the new game modes.

General Discussion / Re: PvS Spoilers So Far
« on: October 05, 2014, 03:21:09 PM »
This is a promo of teleport that will be in a future OP kit coming soon. Right now there is no intention of putting it in PVS, though we did put the Siren on the art.

Seems to me there would be demand for a kind of 'get up date and up to speed' spell tome 3.

Add some alternate art teleports, alongside other similarly essential cards which have not been included in the bigs expansions; some alternate versions of singles from the base game/FvN (barracks, for example); throw in the errata'd cards, and any cards with significantly updated explanations.

I suspect there would be brisk market.

What happened to Aaron? Will he still be involved?

Excuse me for asking what may be an obvious question, but what spell do you use with the wizard's tower? I didn't see this stated.

I can't find anything on the forums.

I'm interested to hear of a vine tree strategy that doesn't involve getting it out as fast as possible. What's your game plan?

Any more Mage Wars players in the area? There is a growing circle in Surrey/Hampshire, and keen to expand.

Weekly games in the Mulberry pub in Farnham, early week days. There are an increasing number of players in the Board2Death group, which meets weekly alternately in the Black Heath and Aldershot.

More players are getting into this from the excellent Epsom Games Club - venues established both in Epsom and in a pub in Abinger. Come along! All welcome! Reply here or send me a message to get involved.

Rules Discussion / Re: Goblin builder can't actually reconstruct walls?
« on: August 23, 2014, 02:49:15 PM »
It is very sad to read they no longer plan to "fix" the builder. I know errata is not taken lightly but I am of the opinion this creature needs it. An otherwise great creature made much less great because of a rules oversight. :(

This topic is closed for now please let it go. 8)

Seems a little harsh.

I think fan fora work best when fans are allowed to freely express their views, as long as it's in a constructive civilized manner.

His post was entirely politely worded!

Spells / Re: Gurmash, Orc Sergeant
« on: August 13, 2014, 07:09:39 AM »
Gurmash is good to buff ranged units and to defend them. With the bowmen, they make a fantastic combo.

Totally agree. He stands in a nest of snipers, slingers and crossbows, yelling battle commands, but ready to lay in if anyone gets too close.

Hmm... wildfire imps + suppresion orb... i like this!
Actually, on further thought, since they cost a mana to teleport (to a burning object), I guess it amounts to the same thing...

They are awesome creatures once buffed up, but the combo needs to get going first.

Strategy and Tactics / Re: Adramalech warlock and the gate to hell
« on: August 13, 2014, 03:43:35 AM »
Actually, I look at it as a sturdy way to get +1 melee to all my demons.  Ignoring the attack action.  With 1-2 creatures it is meh.  Going to 3-8+ creatures and you are getting into some really powerful effects.  Cost wise though it is still rough.  Situational, bit could have impressive synergy like say getting Wildfire Imps to 6 dice.  That is nothing to sneeze at.

Indeed, but it really takes a chunk out of you. 12 mana for plus 1 melee is pricey, and its 6 points in the spellbook (that's a good few tools you are giving up right there). And, as someone has said, its attack - which is somewhat the point of the price of the card, could do considerable damage to your own swarm, if that's teh way you are going.
