General Discussion / Arena vs. Academy
« on: May 26, 2017, 12:15:26 AM »
I've been playing Academy for a while and loved it and was very excited to finally pick up Arena as it seems even more fun. However, just after I picked up Arena, I see more of a focus from AW and the formus on Academy, do most people like Academy more? I like Arena way better and hope it's not dying off.

General Discussion / Fan Site or Wiki?
« on: March 01, 2017, 11:58:50 PM »
Is anyone aware of any fan sites or wikis for Mage Wars? I've found alot of useful info, fan resources, and official world/lore info on this forum but it would be nice to see it all organized in a central place that is easy to navigate and search for things. It's sometimes hard to dig through the forums to find what I'm looking for.

I startrd building a simple Google Doc with a compilation of information and links to resources (both official and fan) but didn't want to duplicate the work if something already exists. If it doesn't, would anyone even have interest in a fan gDoc or site that aggregates stuff in these forums and the main website?

It would just be nice to have a centralized place for the fan spellbook builder, lore, OCTGN tutorials/tournament info, erratta, rules, etc.

General Discussion / Box Art vs. Content
« on: February 18, 2017, 12:52:21 AM »
Maybe I'm crazy, or being a little nitpicky, but has anyone else noticed sometimes creatures or items appear on the boxart that aren't in that particular set?  ???

I noticed mostly with the Thunderdridt Falcon and Staff of Beasts on the Academy box as well as the Griffon on the Arena set. Both times I excitedly searched through the product for those respective cards only to find they appear in a different set. Anyone noticed this with other boxart?

It's not a complaint, I realize it's a very minor detail. It's just more of an observation.

Thanks so much for the info Tony.  It's great to hear that good changes are coming and I appreciate the hard work you're putting into reworking the program. I look forward to further updates.

Website Support and Feedback / Ambassador Program

Can any Ambassadors give an idea of how long to expect a response on an Ambassador Application? The website says 5 business days but it's been three weeks since I submitted the application and my email.

I'm not in a rush, just wondering what others have experienced.

Since this thread is still pinned, I thought I would toss in this update for any new people coming in (like myself).

There is now a Tournament HQ page for MW on the Arcane Wonders site: http://www.arcanewonders.com/news/tournaments

Mages / Re: Arcanum Beastmaster?
« on: January 31, 2017, 09:58:05 PM »
First off, this combo sounds great! I've just been playing Academy so far and love that Beastmaster so I can't wait to upgrade to the Arena Beastmasters (I already have Arena Core Set ordered).

Would using the one-handed soa free a Beastmaster up to use a Spiked Buckler? And maybe you could use an Enchanter's Ring to make the Vampirism cheaper?

Also, this may be a silly question, but how do you link in cards in your posts? That's really cool!

Where did everyone pick up the box that seems to be so popular? Does anyone have the dimension of it? I'd love to pick one up if it would fit in the back of my cases.

Annapolis is a little over an hour from me so I wouldn't be able to meet often but I wouldn't mind setting up an event sometime, or something halfway between? During the summer/fall I do come to Annapolis a few times for the Renn Faire, too bad they don't have open gaming there, lol.

Plano boxes are great for tokens and markers. Deck Boxes are great for my actual decks. But I really need a better idea than binders for all my extra cards. I don't take my cards everywhere, but I'd like to be able to transport them more often in case I need to tweak a deck or want to help someone build a deck. Any ideas? Something that would easily fit into a bookbag or laptop bag? I've got tons of sets so there are ALOT of cards.

The small PirateLab case I use fits into my backpack and holds about 1800 unsleeved cards or a combinatiom of deckboxes, cards, and dice bags.

Most comic shops have the plain white cardboard boxes that come in various sizes and are only a dollar or two.

There's also a really nice card case on Amazon called the Quiver that's excellent for portable card storage.

I've been trying really hard to find good storage for Mage Wars and other games that are market/token heavy.

I've currently been using a Pirate Lab case which has lots of space for all the cards and tokens in the main area, a pouch for the rule book and a back zippered area that's perfect for a couple of spell books.

Now I'm looking at coin books to better organize the markers (making them easier to find), but I currently only have Mage Wars Academy (I've ordered Arena and it's on it's way) and wasn't sure how many tokens Arena has. The coin books can hold about 120 coins/tokens and I wasn't sure if that would even be enough. Would someone be able to give an estimate of how many tokens I should expect to be able to store?

Hey everyone,

I just discovered Mage Wars with Academy and just ordered Arena Core Set. I was wondering if there are any players in the Northern VA or Southern MD area that would want to catch up and play? I usually go to Victory Comics in Falls Church, VA. They have great gaming space and really friendly staff.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Online spell book builder?

I think it's great that you guys provide a SBB at all and for free at that. I work with the dev team
at my company so I know how lengthy and expensive any amount of programming can be, especially when not done in house. It takes alot time, money, resources, planning, and approvals to get seemingly simple changes made. I for one feally appreciate the work the team does for the SBB and don't mind waiting as I think focusing in-house resources on the physical game itself it just a better business decision.

I'm quite surprised so many feel the game isn't interesting or worth playing without a SBB. I get that it's convenient but for me the main draw of the game is getting to manually build your SB. Maybe I'm just old school but I really like the physical aspects of the game and I started with Academy. If I wanted to have instant digital access to game components I would just play a video game. Maybe a thorough fan wiki could help? Having that said I do see the benefits if a SBB and look forward to seeing updates (offical or fan based). In the meantime I'll happily keep playing.
