Strategy and Tactics / Re: zombies vs skellies
« on: February 07, 2015, 12:39:46 AM »
I see people advocating libro basically all the time, and basically no one talks about graveyard. I think something not a lot of players take into account or perhaps haven't dealt with much is a well timed dissolve on libro. Yes, the necro can bring it back, but a dissolve cast in final quickcast can often really damage a necro's plans for next round. At least with graveyard, you know it's going to be around at the end of a turn, and can try and protect it if you're opponent tries to take it down.

Basically, libro is more effecient, while graveyard is more reliable.

League / Tournament Play / Re: Chicago and Chicago Suburbs

I currently live in Chicago, but have been to Durty Nellies before. I travel back and forth to the northwest suburbs of chicago occasionally, right by Barrington, so meeting up at Durty Nellies isn't out of the question. I was hoping to find some people willing to play frequently closer inside the city, but I'll definitely look to stop by Durty Nellies soon. If I am V10, I'll be sure to send a message and perhaps we can meet up and get some games in!

Intangible0, I'd be willing to meet up for some games sometime. I've checked out the Arcane Duels youtube page and love the work. Let me know where you guys play regularly and we could try and get a game together!

League / Tournament Play / Chicago and Chicago Suburbs
« on: January 28, 2015, 12:36:28 AM »
Hey everyone, recently I've gotten pretty heavily into mage wars and am looking to expand past OCTGN and get into contact with some local players.

I currently am pretty busy with class, but hopefully I can find a few folks to start a little group up with in the next few weeks as my schedule opens up. If anyone is in the Chicagoland area, or the nearby suburbs of chicago, perhaps we can meet up somewhere and get a few games in, possibly organize a tournament if enough people are around.

Let's get a conversation going about possible days/times/places to meet up at, and if enough people are around or we can form up a large enough play group, I'll start looking around at places to host tournaments at as well.

Cheers!

Rules Discussion / Re: Question about timings

I'm inclined to agree wit Zuberi and V10lentray on the snatch ruling. Since damage is applied before effects, I would think that damage is being constantly checked against health, and the moment a creature has damage exceeding its total life, it pops. That seems to make the most sense, and would prevent the transition to the effects being applied so no snatch.

At least, that's how I think I'll play it until I can find/get an official ruling on what stage creatures are destroyed in during an attack. Thanks for the answers!

Rules Discussion / Question about timings
« on: January 22, 2015, 02:05:06 AM »
I'm new to the forums, but have been playing A LOT of mage wars recently. Roughly 2-3 games a day, and while I have most everything down, a few situations came up that I'm not sure how to resolve. I tried re-reading the rules and checking the rules supplement, so apologies if these questions have already been answered.

The first thing that happened was in a druid vs. necromancer game. What happened was a thornlasher attacked a plague zombie 1 square away, and rolled enough damage to kill the zombie. The thornlasher also got his snatch effect though. My question is, would you resolve the snatch before the zombie is technically destroyed, or would the zombie be destroyed immediately upon receiving the damage and not be snatched, thus avoiding the rot on the thornlasher?

My other question regards the upkeep phase and when to resolve certain conditions. The situation that came up was a burn token was placed on a highland unicorn. During the upkeep phase, which would you resolve first, the burn condition or the regenerate? From what I gathered it goes by initiative, but I'm not sure if that's right.
