Strategy and Tactics / Re: On mana crystal effects and efficiency
« on: October 20, 2014, 02:11:43 PM »
Objectively a Mana Crystal Effect (channeling +1) breaks even after X turns (X = Mana Cost) because only then you'll get back the mana spent and from then on it's pure gain. That is true, no arguing about it.

However, speaking of efficiency brings concepts that are not being taken into account in the discussion, and that is Plan, Objective and Purpose.

Efficiency means that the Objectives are met using the minimal possible amount of resources and time. The Objective of the game is to defeat the opponent, but there are many different possible Plans to do that. And inside each Plan, each single Card has its own Purpose.

So, if a player's Plan includes Mana Crystal Effect's Cards and has a clear Purpose for them, and the Objective is met, then we can say that the Mana Crystal Effect Card is Effective, if not necessarily Efficient.

In summary, in my opinion, a Card (or effects like it) cannot be evaluated in the void, it has an very complex game around it, and may find a place in the Winning Plan of any player.

What some players will see as a unworthy expenditure, others may see as an rewarding investment.

Alternative Play / Re: Mage Wars: The Drinking Game
« on: August 26, 2014, 12:15:04 PM »
Well I've heard that drinking may also be used to delete memories :'D

Well sometimes I drink to forget, and then while drunk I can't remember what I wanted to forget... so that works  ;D

World and Lore / Re: Male Dwarves vs Female Dwarves?
« on: August 26, 2014, 07:19:24 AM »
The point boils down to the existence of Dwarfs as a fantasy race, and the reality is that they are a creation of us humans. I mean the people of old with their folklore histories, modern age fantasy writers, fantasy role players... Each group has its own ideas and limits of what is acceptable in terms of humanoid creatures physical looks, and in that regard the Mage Wars world is just a creation of another group of people who like fantasy.
So the answer to the question: How do you can tell male and female dwarfs apart? is that, it depends of each person knowledge and experience, the OP has a very good theory, based in his common sense and influences, whatever they may be. In my experience with fantasy lore, Female Dwarfs have beards, but softer and shorter than male, and also have al classic female shape (big curves, defined waist line, and broad hips), but again that is my point of view.
In this specific case we need that the creators of Etheria share their point of view with us about this. So, What physical characteristics differentiate a Male Dwarf  from a Female Dwarf in Etheria? that is the question.

World and Lore / Re: Are all Galvitars the same Forceblade?
« on: August 25, 2014, 10:25:51 PM »
This one is old but I have a grain of salt to add...
A Galvitar to me is the type of weapon and comes from: Galvanic + Scimitar.
A scimitar made of pure flowing energy!

Player Feedback and Suggestions / Re: repleneshing kit

I'd say status, mana, damage and special powers tokens, sure a dice works, but it's not the same...

First of all Congratulations for your Victory in GenCon Alexander, and second, Thank You Very Very Much for your article about the book and the tournament, and also for the feedback to the community in this post.
The deconstruction of the book  and your explanations about your choices and their possible implications have make me (and others) change the way I think about the game, of course in a good way. I'm new to the game (4 months old) but I've read a lot about the strategy and resources used in the game, and your article about the book (Straywood Aviary) while specific, has really far reaching implications, specially in the meta-gaming part, and I personally consider it a must read for new players who want to get to the next level, not necessarily competition level, but at least to the build yourself a solid book level.

I'm beginning to streamline the idea of the book, and my play style.

So as of now the book is based on the wizard's tower delivering stones, waves and other nasty stuff in the enemy front door, while been guarded by  a regenerative Gargoyle. I changed most of the buff enchantments for de-buff ones to put pressure on the mage and elites. Also lowered significantly the mana denial (angry people around) and greatly enhanced the attacks suite. Quicksand, Battle Forge and Veteran's Belt are new additions and haven't been tested, hope they work cause I like them a lot. Hopefully this week I'll play a lot more and will have the chance to test the changes.

Again thanks to all of you who gave me your opinion, this is really a great game with a great community, I hope to learn a lot and help others as well.

Events / Re: Mage Wars Tournament @ GenCon Indy 2014

After the lists publication, perhaps the top 8 players may give a quick rundown of MVP creature/spell and Best Plays, for their books  ;) Not asking for a primer here, just a few tips.

So I had 3 games this weekend with the book, went 2-1, not bad for a first try!
Learned a few things: gremlin is great, the correct placement of the gate is critical and mana denial is a bad strategy for a friendly game.

So for now the only change is -1 faerie/+1 gremlin.
What do you think? I'm still looking for a focus for the book.

I'd love to get some feedback on this one, thanks...

This is my first try to Spellbook building, until now I've been playing with the suggested Spellbook. This book probably has too many creatures and almost no focus, I built it with versatility in mind. Your opinions and suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

Strategy and Tactics / Forcemaster - Scimitars and Psi-Orb
« on: July 07, 2014, 12:20:52 AM »
Hi, it's my first post in the forum.

I'm kinda new to the game, my experience is limited to the base game and just recently got Forcemaster vs Warlord.

I'd like to know what do you think about equipping the Forcemaster with 3 dancing scimitars and a psi-orb. Is it legal? to many eggs in the same basket? could it work?

Thanks in advance for your comments.
