General Discussion / Re: New Mage Wars Promos available.
« on: January 20, 2014, 04:59:32 PM »
The two promos I was most excited about to date (including the above) were the Healing Wand (which turned out to be not as awesome as I had thought, but still neat) and Sersiryx, Imp Familiar (which is just awesome).

I really hope that Sersiryx will arrive with Forged in Fire! :D

Rules Discussion / Re: Force Push and Wall of Pikes (and Wall of thorns)
« on: January 12, 2014, 02:29:59 PM »
It has been confirmed for the Wall of Spikes that you do NOT pay.
For wall of thorns with level 1 creature, I have no idea. My guess would be no.
Could anyone point out where it has been officially confirmed that Wall of Pikes does not make you pay to push through the "safe" way?
In the Official Rules & Codex Supplement (aka FAQ), which states on page 48...
Quote
Whenever a card references “Pushing or passing through a wall with the Passage Attack trait”, it only refers to the direction of Wall of Pikes which would attack the object.

Website Support and Feedback / Coherent navigation throughout the site?
« on: January 07, 2014, 02:31:01 PM »
I'd love to have a way to navigate through the entire site without having to backtrack and click links buried in the page's contents. It doesn't even need to be the same everywhere (even though the current four navigations are really heterogenous), I'd just love to have a way to navigate around. And for new customers, that would make it possible to find stuff without running into dead ends.

In particular, I think the following things would improve the user experience:

  • Every "home" link should go to the same page - the forums if that's central, the frontpage if that's central
  • The homepage (and the downloads section as a consequence) should be reachable with navigation links from the forums
  • It should be possible to reach the spellbook builder from the homepage and the forums without going into the Website section, then the spellbook builder section, then the beta thread
  • There should be one place for news - currently, it's all sprad out over the forums and the front page
  • I'm aware that the spellbook builder is still beta, but a link from there to the other sections (home, forums, maybe store) would be nice as well

Of course, I have bookmarks for all the things I regularly use. But...

  • A new user doesn't have those and has to find their way around without prior knowledge about all the stuff there is on the site
  • There is no reason for me to need them, as navigation links throughout the site are easy to implement with a bit of custom templating
  • This isn't really about me at all, but about website usability

That's all  8) The attachments are just the four different navigation bars I found throughout the site, I hope I haven't missed any  ;)

Website Support and Feedback / Re: New BBCode
« on: January 07, 2014, 02:09:08 PM »
@haslo

The card code you are referring too is at the bottom of each and every card, also included in the dataset of the Deck Editor in OCTGN. It is very simple to use.

_If_ I have the spellbook builder open in another tab. I just don't think that should be necessary :P I think there should be a button or something that allows me to type the card's name when I'm writing a forum post, and that then adds the correct BBCode for me, or I should be able to enter a BBCode that uses the card's name and not an arbitrary ID.

Wands are good, just very unflexible. If both sides are enamored with wands, then wands are the best thing ever, because nobody does anything unexpected (as both sides are busy building up their wand fortress). If one side consequently plays around the opposing side having a wand, they aren't anywhere near as good.

Rules Discussion / Re: Is Upkeep +X cumulative?
« on: December 27, 2013, 05:21:20 AM »
[mwcard=MW1C23]Malacoda[/mwcard].

Great resource, up to date, and free....

...and not lying on the table while playing the game.

Personally, I'd pay for an "errata pack" that only contains all cards that were errata'd / changed / extended since the game's original release.

I'd love to use these in forum posts, but it appears that I need to use some kind of card id and not the card name for them. Do I find those ids in the SBB, or is there an easier way to just say [popup=awesomecard] or something and just have that popup the awesomecard on hover?

Spells / Re: Mana cost of life, armor, attacks, and traits
« on: December 13, 2013, 03:55:06 PM »
Hey, this calculation appears to make a lot more sense than the other one :) Interesting, definitely, but I'm sure that what really determined the costs was mostly playtesting, not any formula at all  :P

Rules Discussion / Re: Rules not covered in the Rulebook or FAQ
« on: December 13, 2013, 02:54:10 PM »
Thanks for this :) Reading the FAQ after over half a year of not keeping up with their official documents was really awesome for me - all the rules arguments I remember were clearly answered, from hydro immune fire extinguishers to guards and conjurations. Thanks Zuberi, and thanks AW!

General Discussion / Re: Manufactured in what Country?

I wonder why that's important. But maybe that's because few games are printed in Switzerland, where I live?

General Discussion / Re: Duplicate Mage-Only, Epic DvN cards: why?
« on: December 13, 2013, 02:50:31 PM »
FWIW, I am slightly worried about the single Epic cards in Forcemaster vs. Warlord - I'm afraid of losing them at some point and not having a replacement, even though that has never happened in any game yet. A silly thing, but it's there.

The card distribution in DvN seems pretty much perfect to me.

Website Support and Feedback / Re: File read test
« on: November 05, 2013, 06:30:09 PM »
For fun and giggles, I got an Opera 10.63 for my OS X 10.8, and behold, nothing happened :P

The reason why I posted the link is that when I looked at the JS code, the FileReader API call in there seemed to be the only thing that's not very widely supported. But I'm obviously mistaken, as when I tested with Opera 11.00, I got this JS error instead:

Quote
Event thread: change
Uncaught exception: TypeError: Cannot convert 'evt.target.files' to object
Error thrown at line 22, column 12 in readSingleFile(evt) in http://calgarygamers.net/test/upload.html:
    var f = evt.target.files[0];

Opera 11.10 seems to have added support for the File API as well though; I tested 11.11 and that works fine.

So it looks like this link is also relevant:
