Hey all:
I'm trying to find an online quizlett such as those done at
http://www.quibblo.com/ that I could point people to  that wanted to know what type of Mage they would enjoy playing

These tests are in the same vein as "What house of Harry Potter are you " or "What super hero are you most like" etc...

Has anyone created such a quiz for Mage wars?

Does anyone know of a playmat tube that will support the dimensions of the Mage Wars playmat?

2 things:

1) Trust Tox on all matters ;p
2) I live in Central Ohio COLUMBUS ... and am a board gamer. There are many of us. Mage Wars is and has been my favorite game since its inception. A few of us play on a regular basis.  I don't post here a lot...but there are players here. They just may not have reached out to you. I'm a Gen X'er that has only ever had one thing I've considered "art-worthy" Of my 200+ board games.. this is the one that hangs in the game room. I do what I can when possible to promote this game at hopefully some of the FLGS's you may frequent. Columbus is a thriving city with people that love this game.

What's the best way to find someone to use OCTGN and say skype or google hangouts to talk so I can learn my way around OCTGN for Mage wars?

Spellbook Design and Construction / How to train your Priestess
« on: October 13, 2014, 05:30:57 PM »
I know that there are a lot of players that look for the optimal spell point usage when creating a book
based upon combos and abilities that build on each other. I think that this design will draw a lot of criticism for that.
But... the idea was just to intriguing to me to not try and make it effective.

I'm wondering if anyone here might be able to add some constructive advice on what might make this build more effective.
What cards would you change out?
What Mages/Book builds will be the most challenging for this design?

I want the book to focus on The Priestess and Sardonyx.
Thank you to all.

baronzaltor:
That is a great breakdown and the Warlock as you build out would meet those criteria!
Thank you !
That was a great post. I am going to try building this out once I get a chance and finish ruminating on my current spell book adjustments.

Maybe there are some other fighting strategies/charactrers to consider (outside of boxing lol)

I'm going to ponder that.

First off:
Thank you to each and every Mage Wars person I met at Origins:
Shad0w: You gave a world of insight.... I thank you for that.

The other day I was looking through my cards trying to come up with my
first build not based upon prior posts (if I do come up with something looking similar...it's unintentional I apologize).

So much of what I have heard about Mage Wars has centered around "work your plan" Where it's
"wall in a mage" or "sprint the JBM for a quick kill"
A lot of what I read centers around getting you offense out to take out your opponent mage.

Ok... so what am I talking about? Rocky ??
Well for any of you old enough to remember the first Rocky movie...you know that basically he got the hell beat out of him (I know...not surprising in a boxing film) And Yes I know he lost....but let's shelve that for the example. ;D

Basically...I'm toying with the idea
"What if I can live long enough to go through most of my opponents offensive spell book" (with control and slow DoTs) and NOT casts most of my offense spells until absolutely needed.  Then, in the later rounds, simply refuse to fall down or yield.

I'm talking major long term turtling and life/mana regeneration/healing to offset damage taken.
Which mage lends itself to this type of approach best? Druid? Priestess? A Mage?
What sort of items are best for offsetting the most damage long term ? Healing wand? Perhaps a mage with Voltaric shiled and a regen belt?

Is this even feasible? Or is the game designed such that ultimately offense will outstretch and defenses set up to mitigate?

Please discuss

Mages / Priest vs Priestess different but which is more versatile
« on: October 06, 2013, 08:05:46 PM »
Hi all:
I have been recently playing a few matches locally with my wizard but I am gearing up to start playing on OCTGN
and here at home also.
I want to find one particular type of mage to play on a regular basis and champion.

So far I am down to the priest and priestess...
I'm open to exploring different play styles, but I figure finesse and fine tuning will come in time.

That being said... I'd like to ask the community..which of these 2 variations in theme would you recommend
for purposes of someone basically starting out?

On a scale of noob to 10 I am probably a 3 (so far).
I prefer a limited amount of creature and enjoy reaction/denial of an opponents spells a fair amount.
I probably don't have the expertise to build slowly for some grande end game play.

I really need a deck that will let me learn from my opponents while holding it's own.

any suggestions? or good spell decks to alter for said goals?
Please advise and thanks!
