Spells / Re: Alluring Orchid Question
« on: May 20, 2022, 05:46:55 PM »
Are the changes going on now going to impact Academy play, or just Arena? So... in other words... would the original Aluring Orchid be the spell in use in Academy, or would the new spell be used in Academy as well as Arena?

The list is not stable though... every time I look for a list I find that more and more are in playtest or have been changed. Don't presume that the list is final until they say it is.

Sounded like it would only be partially live, with limited attendance.

Burst of Thorns is an Incantation that causes a vine marker to make an attack... it is not an attack spell. Since the Mage is not the one making the attack, there is no roll for Daze and no danger should the target be protected by Reverse Attack.

Baronzaltor (a playtester) stated this in 2013. See https://forum.arcanewonders.com/index.php?topic=13345.msg26812#msg26812

holy crap... is this what future tournaments will all look like?

If Arcane Wonders doesn't do the balancing the duty falls to the tournament organizers.

Which they can hold without me.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Arena Elemental Wizard

I don't know if you were aware, but the original Wizard had a choice of training in any one element, plus Arcane. It was found to be too flexible / powerful / something to just give him a choice of one. I doubt you will have many of the Wizard's abilities and training in all elements should an arena Elementalist come out.
LOL@ you for thinking Arena is still going to be supported...
It was a hypothetical statement... "should" ... I did not state a position either way.

You know... with the governor's shelter in-place order that became effective last night, you might want to reconsider the offering. It was set to last until 4/7 at least.

I already completed the survey, but got to thinking about something tonight that I thought that I'd post as a kind-of addendum to it.

I am wondering whether a decent approach might be to create a complete, cleaned-up rulebook... and add a section of "optional" or "advanced" rules. These optional rules might include things like customized Mage design, reduction in list of conditions, or whatever you want. That way those who would want to play the game as it currently is simply would not use the additional rules, and others could play in other, equally valid and balanced, company approved, formats.

Each tournament head judge would choose which set of options (if any) to use at a con, but I don't think that that would be a serious issue. It might even be better that way if the community changes its collective mind over time about which set of options it likes best... tournament standards would just change over time with it.

Please don't hate me too much for suggesting this :)

discord?

I found out how to sign up for it, but I don't see a thing there related to MW.
