Mage Wars Academy / Left the arena. Now playing Academy. Awesome!
« on: March 13, 2017, 02:23:06 PM »
Hello,

when MW (Arena) came out i was one of the first people in germany playing it. You guys from Arcane Wonders did (and do) an outstanding job with it! Can't say it enough.

But sadly it was a little bit too "heavy" for me after new expansions came out and without a regular MW mate to play with often enough. Furthermore i dont wanted huge amounts of cards to manage or knowing all of them to play competitive. Though, Arena would be perfect on the famous "desert island" for me.
Because of this reasons i left the arena. Not to mention that other card games (CCGs(!) or LCGs with huge amounts of expansions) are a "no go" for me. (FFG / Magic ...).

But i loved the Mage Wars feeling so much. It is unique. Great. Just awesome!
Now i bought Academy (in german language) played 6+ games (1 to 2 and a half hours each) and it fits my personal taste perfectly.
It plays faster, is easier to learn and there are just a few cards out there. Dont get me wrong, i don't dislike expansions, i like them! And i already want MORE. But it should be manageable. Here it is given with 2+ little expansions every year.
Last but not least it has the great Mage Wars feeling! Now i can have it again!
You guys are ingenius! Thanks a lot!

Actually a mate and me are playing an evening (1-2 games) every week. There are a group of people  playing arena and academy, too in berlin.

Every gamer with a preference for themed, intense, tactical battles with awesome looking cards on the table should try this. Realy! You just should like rolling dice for combat.

Hopefully the target group will recognize academy more an more. It deserves it.

Strategy and Tactics / Re: Eye of Bael on opponent!?

Thanks for commenting.
Interesting. This + the curse item...

One question:
The enemy puts Eye of Bael on my mage. Now i cast wispwillow amulet on my mage to get rid of Eye of Bael. As it's stated in the rules, the item on this slot (Eye of Bael) now goes back into my Spellbook. "Back" is wrong, but i would think this is the correct way to play it. Right?

Thanks,
Jan

Strategy and Tactics / Eye of Bael on opponent!?
« on: March 12, 2017, 04:03:12 PM »
Hello there,

what about casting Eye of Bael (3 Mana only!) on the enemys mage (if he is NOT the warlock himself).
He/She will get 1 damage every turn, so has to get rid of it with crumble or casting an equipment with the same slot (only wispwillow amulet at the moment).

I dont know if this was intended by the devs, but it seems REALY bad for the opponent.

Greetings,
Jan

Hey,
