Rules Discussion / Circle of Lightning
« on: January 03, 2013, 07:27:13 PM »
:) First of all kudos to Arcane Wonders for making a brilliant game. I got it for Christmas this year and my son and I have played it every day since. My question has to do with a game we played last night where I was playing the Priestess and he was playing the Wizard. He cast Circle of Lightning on one of his creatures and I went to attack it and we were unclear what to do with this spell. My take on the spell is that it is strictly a defensive spell and if I attack a creature with Circle of Lightning on it that creature gains the damage barrier. The spell line reads like this: damage barrier, lightning, 2 attack dice and effect dice, ethereal and unavoidable. Does this spell just use damage barrier with the dice attack roll and the effects added. Can you make a attack with Circle of Lightning or is it just a defensive spell. If you could help with this it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I to am not opposed to necroposting policies it is a must have when running forum pages. I was just put off by the way it was stated is all. I don't know if it is possible to delete a post with no activity on it after a certain time that way it doesn't get restarted. That is what I suggest to do but not if possible to do so. I am sure Shad0w is a big help and I appreciate the hard work that moderators have to with that said I am killing this topic for me. Have fun playing Mage Wars as I know I will. Have a great one

I am new to the Mage Wars game and new to the web site but that does not mean that I am inexperienced. I personally don't see why new users should be punished as such and not be able to post on a topic that is visable to them regardless of the time that it has been dead. We as users do not know that last time someone has logged in or check the forums. I found this to be a little harse in the approach and think this would tend to have some new users turned of by this. A little bit better of a busy approach may have been better suited and not call users inexperienced without knowing them. That is just my opinion though.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: In-school only builds?

Stadi I see what your saying but if you do that then you are taking away the point of going out of your school thus the spells would not cost more. That would make the mages the same and take away from the game. I think it is brilliant the way the game is designed now and should not be changed. The whole point of the game is to make it as realistic as possible and I think that they hit the nail right on the head.

Not all mages are going to have the same spells even if novice. It that was the case then there would be no need to have different kinds of mages. It would just be a general all around mage and thus there would be no Mage Wars and that would be no fun.

So if the two players are playing for the first time then they sit down together and pick the spells for their decks. Do you try to do it so the other person doesn't see or build them at seperate times. Are there enough of the spells to make sure everyone gets the ones that they want. Because I know that I will want multiple copies of some spells. And want if you want to go outside your spell school are you going to bve able to get the spells if the other mage is in that school or are the going to have them all.

General Discussion / Building spell book question

 I have read the rules a couple of times and there is one thing that I am still not sure of. When you build the spell books for each player do you use a draft format to choose the spells? Or do you just look through the spells at the same time and just pick what you want. I am not sure and confused about this part of the game can you please help?
