General Discussion / Thanks!
« on: August 25, 2012, 02:00:39 PM »
Wanted to send out a quick thank you to the Arcane Wonders staff.  I had a minor problem with a couple of cards and they immediately took care of me.

Thanks for great customer service!

General Questions / Re: Legendary creatures and Banish
« on: August 25, 2012, 01:38:52 PM »
Based on the text on the Banish spell it seems that the banished creature would still be in the game.

"Teleport target creature out of the arena. Place 3 Banish tokens on it.  Remove 1 Banish token each Upkeep Phase.  When the final token is removed, return the creature to the last zone that occupied.  While out of the arena, this creature cannot take any action, its action marker remains unchanged, and it can only be affected by attached spells, conditions, or its own traits."

General Questions / Action Phase question
« on: August 25, 2012, 09:40:36 AM »
Page 15 of the rulebook states that you can do one of two things after you've chosen your creature to act with.

Quote
1. Take a move action first, and then take a quick action; or
2. Stay in the same zone and take a full action.
The move action is optional. You can choose not to move and still take a quick action. However, if you want to move the creature, you must complete the move action before you take a quick action.

What are some of the design decisions around option 1 of this rule?

Just so you know the apprentice event were the tournaments at 7pm. The demos were the event from 10am-6pm. The demos and  tournaments were all at apprentice level.

Ok... my spell book was marked "apprentice" so I thought it was the apprentice event.  For me it was perfect to learn how to play the game... I went right from the exhibit hall to the demo event.  The staff did a great job, and I'm sure this will be a successful game.

for sure... I understand that.  I appreciate the help I've received so far and was pointing out to new players (like me) that there is more info available. :D

General Discussion / Make sure you read through "All About Mage Wars"
« on: August 24, 2012, 09:46:30 AM »
I'm sure most of people here have done that... but I picked up Mage Wars at Gen Con after watching the DiceTower video review and was only peripherally aware of the game before Gen Con 2012.  Anyway, the reason I mention this is that I had some confusion with how the Wizards Voltaric Shield worked... and it wasn't until I posted some questions on BGG that somebody linked me to this site. The Wizard ability card and rule book do not go into the level of detail describing Voltaric Shield that the Wizard Overview does.

General Discussion / Re: Average Game Time
« on: August 24, 2012, 09:34:33 AM »
I've played 5 games... and so far they have all been at least 90-120 minutes.  I was teaching the game for 3 of them so I suspect that game time will drop as we play more.

I'm a DiceTower fan and it was this review that helped me decide which booth to hit first at Gen Con this year.  I missed out on FFG's Android: Net Runner...but I'm very happy that I've been able to play Mage Wars.
