General Discussion / Re: Promo cards
« on: September 17, 2019, 04:15:28 PM »
promo cards are usually distributed by arcane wonders at exhibitions such as origns and gen con conventions. they sometimes send them to tournament organizers as prizes for folks.

as far as when they are allowed, usually not allowed in major real life events. as it advantages those who have been able to obtain copies over those who have not. however, in many online octgn tournaments they are allowed - see each event for exclusions/modifications.

casual online matches are usually a free for all approach.

you should use the non-promo released version of the octgn cards if they have been officially released in a set as they will have up to date verbiage on them.

as a side note:
you probably should check with your opponent before you load decks for rules they may be expecting to operate under. there are differences in various players expectations on how certain cards function - such as killer bees.

good luck. hope to see you at live events or online soon.

I am planning on having a serious tournament for 11/16 Saturday. hope to start at 1pm or so. I will post rules for it here in advance. but the starting point will be the 2019 gencon rules as a base. there may be a couple of card modifications beyond those base rules. the 2 cards being considered for change to printed version are ritual of kallek, and perhaps pillar of righteous flame. just a thought at the moment.

should be a blast. looking forward to seeing folks. more to come....

awesome news. look forward to seeing you there.

I think you will have issues against a basic druid and perhaps holy. but the wackiness should be entertaining.

I believe it was intended that the burns and freezes cancel whenever they meet. so in that case the creature would live. but certainly zuberi has it as it currently reads.

a number of folks mentioned the alternate weekend would work better.

looking like next mw weekend here in indy will be nov 15-17. let me know if you can make it.

I concur with the removal taking place before considering death. since the freezes don't really stick so to speak.

hmm. perhaps you are right. it is on the line I think. but for the conjuration game, I was suggesting specifically zone exclusives for zone denial as an adjunct strategy. looking forward to seeing it in practice.

there has been nothing official about further arena sets.

regarding working via fm. the builders placing a conjuration is a full action, and the eye only allows quick spells. I think this could be more interesting if you added a few more conjurations and went more full on zone denial as an additional strategy. but to make it more reliable, seems like you would need a stronger threat on the board to distract the opponent long enough to have the builders do their thing. mana of course would be a major concern. it may be that the threat would have to be your mage to conserve mana for the conjuration game. and that brings on its own issues.

good luck with the build and look forward to seeing some matches with it. or even better playing against it some time.

this sounds interesting from a bookbuilding perspective. takes us back some time for sure. I would have to check my competitive books to see how it may affect the builds and consider alternatives to any academy cards in them.

 :(

we are saddened by the missing biblo. look forward to the next time we can see you.

what I don't want to see is that you have to rush or ritual to be competitive. that is what is bad for the game.
