General Discussion / Re: Dicetower Review
« on: August 17, 2012, 06:07:08 AM »
Well, if you do so many reviews as them, it's probably hard the spend more time to prepare.

Maybe it had errors and unfortunate things (comparing it with Summoner Wars) but it has it's uses: it get's the attention of a lot of people on BGG.

General Discussion / Re: 4 players from one box?

I'm sorry that it's a problem for some people but my favorite color is green  and I'm always sad if there isn't green in a boardgame. I don't really intend to play non-2player but maybe I will buy the multiplayer expansion just for the green color. Purpule is also not bad but if I could chose I would have chosen yellow.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: List of Common Spells Needed
« on: August 15, 2012, 10:26:46 AM »
Patrick mentioned that there will be spellpacks for each school, containing all spells: http://www.magewars.com/jsite/forum/strategy-and-tactics/529-tarok-vs-gray-angel?limit=6&start=6#577

Please consider making a Basic Spelltome where you include at least 4-6 copies of the most useful spells mentioned in this topic. It doesn't have to be available in all shops, it's enogh if you sell it in your webshop.

Ok, that's good to hear! Please put at least 4 of each interesting/useful spell into those packs.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Why Bearskin for the Beastmaster
« on: August 15, 2012, 09:35:52 AM »
For most people this won't be a problem, and with the release of the Necromancer and his frost attacks even less, but there might be some people who will play the suggested builds for a while and they might think that the Beastmaster is underpowered. Both the Warlock and the Wizard have fire attacks and they are also protected against them with their suggested armors. Just a thought, not a complaint.

Why does the Beastmaster have a Bearskin as an armor in the suggested basic spellbook?

The main set won't have any frost attack spells if I'm correct. So the Beastmaster would be better off with a Dragonscale Hauberk or something similar.

There are not four Gray Angels in the base game. But I will be getting four as soon as the additional copies become available.

How many are there in the base game?

Spells / Re: Spells you would like to see

I think there should be some spells that have a higher mana cost for mages outside the spell's schools (or for opposite schools). So apart from the usual higher spellbook building cost. Let's say some very powerful and flavorful healing spell for the priestess or something like Death Link for the Warlock. So let's not make them x mage only but simply higher mana cost for other mages.

I actually registered on Boardgaming.com months ago but never again visited the site. The one thing BGG lacks and Boardgaming.com has is the good looks. You are right, BGG need some time investment till you know how to find what you know but I think it's worth it.

"place is like BGG" and then you exactly describe BGG. According to what you wrote there's no need to use this site as BGG already did this years ago. And everyone is using BGG. If something is not on BGG, it does not exist.

If I'm correct the second mage expansion will be a Necromancer / Druid so I'm pretty sure we'll have a lot of undead spells.

I'd like to see a mind spell called something like slow time. It would be a mage only spell and probably with a high mana cost. You could either play it as a quick spell in your final quickcast phase when you had the initiative this turn, and the effect would be that in the next round you keep the initiative. You could also cast it as a full spell, in that case right after it you could do two additional actions. So the mage casts it, and two of his creature could move/attack.

I'd also like to see more fairy creatures (probably for the druid), some middle eastern creatures like, djinn, efrit, fire-snake, and some insect creatures including bees (maybe a bee-queen that reinforces the normal bee-s) and wasps.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: In-school only builds?
« on: August 08, 2012, 03:44:21 AM »
Ok, so let's get back to this after a few new sets :)

Another solution would be to give every school these effects (http://magewars.com/jsite/forum/spellbook-design-and-construction/134-list-of-common-spells-needed ) with their own flavor.

Like instead of dissolve a curse for the Warlock that makes one of the opponents artifacts cursed. Or instead of a holy healing spell, a dark spell that heals but lowers the max life as well. Something along these lines.

Of course, but I was thinking there must have been a reason those spell are not in their own basic school. If maybe not only in-school only but in-school and novice spells.

I understand that the current rules offer more varied play and probably right now some school may be lacking some cards that will appear in future expansions but only in-school would be an interesting thematic variant.

This is directed to the playtesters and designers :)

Have you ever playtested mage builds where the mages are only allowed to use spells from their own schools? Would that work or does it cause imbalance?
