Title: favorite creature
Post by: zot on December 17, 2017, 10:11:43 AM
now that folks have discussed their favorite spells. lets go for specific type.what is your favorite creature for whatever reason. coolness, powerful, artwork, fun, whatever. or perhaps your top two.

i am going with the
   darkfenne hydra.

reminds me of the movie jason and the argonauts, and the feared dnd creature. just thematically cool.

second is much more difficult.

   gorgon archer

for the similar reasons.

though love the artwork on the water elemental and it is really cool too.

Favorite creatures
1. Ehren Enduring Paladin. He's so cheap and requires very little support. Whenever my opponent focuses him, I just smile and count just how much of a mana/action/sbp advantage.
2. Dorseas Stallion of Westlock. He's SO useful. Taking a lot of dot dmg? Dorseas will solve your problem. Your Ehren is about to die from rot but you have int next round? Dorseas will solve your problem. So on and so forth.

My favorite creature would be Malacoda.
I never use him, but damn, he looks cool, is strong as fuck and has justified balance in his price and his slow trait.

As for Reddicediaries: Wasn't Ini irrelevant during upkeep phase? I thought either player decides for his own creatures in which order he wants to resolve all the upkeep stuff.

Having int is important bc in the first quick cast phase of the next round you can heal the dmg creature without letting the opponent being able to react.

Sardonyx.

Because one day a hero will come who can make that creature work. And that day will be a day of glory.

But it is not this day.

Thornlasher. Best creature in the game. 11 life regen 2, almost impossible to ace down in one round, a practically elusive attack that ranged at 0-1, can't be pushed, ignores chant of rage and such, is hardly worth mind controlling, all for the BARGAIN price of 7 mana. Insane value!

Thornlasher for days! I love this creature. I have used these as a conveyor belt to a kill zone.

Hmm... Thornlasher is definitely good, and I have it in a few books beyond Druids. I also love Knight of Westlock, Zombie Brute and Darkfenne Bat for punching above their weight.

My favourite though has to be Guardian Angel.  Most books get better with one!

I wonder what mages would get good millage out of a thornlasher. Beastmasters? Its the hard cast i think that makes that so tricky.
Guardian angel is a great creature, no doubt, but i find that especially now in the days of chant of rage and such, that they have lost some effectiveness.

Siren can get some good use off them, Beastmaster can too, especially in BG.

Any mage with an interest in ongoing positional play can use them well.

I did use them in Siren, but actually, I've now gone back to Merren Harpooner in that slot. Although it's more expensive, that Range 2 Snatch is excellent, and the extra damage doesn't hurt.

i originally had thought of using them in a siren, my problem was that they roll fewer dice in a shallow sea which is where youd want them pulling things. Yes the harpooner is awesome, but shes also super expensive!!! and lvl3. i like her still, but shes not as spamable.

Lightning Raptor is probably my favorite. It's purely a theme thing that I love both Dinos and Lightning things.

I love Lightning Raptor because with a Dodge, and maybe a Giant Size, it forces the opponent to pay way more than you did to deal with it.

Good call on Thornlashers. Hadn't considered them, but they've always been the bread and butter of my Druid book.

Cervere makes an appearance in most of my Nature books these days. Fast + Elusive is just so good, especially in Domination books.

I have a soft spot for Mort, the skeleton unicorn. There are few ways to "heal" the undead, so giving your skeletons effectively Regenerate 2 is pretty awesome. Reconstructs your Wall of Bones and Altar of Skulls, too. And his 4 dice + Tainted attack is scary in its own right.

Malacoda can be great in a Necromancer build, especially in Domination. He's probably the best Guard for a double-orb zone - if you can keep him from getting pushed/teleported around. You could Tanglevine/Anchor him, but then he essentially becomes a Pest, so you give up his ability to actually guard the orb or to counterstrike (but the poison still works). His biggest drawback is you have to hard-cast him at range 0, and he's slow, so he can take a while to get into position (unless you (Lesser) Teleport him to his destination).

Necropian Vampiress, Thunderrift Falcon and Naiya get honourable mentions.

Gelatinous Cube ....errr i mean..Devouring jelly and invisible stalker are probably my 2 fav cteatures.

Jelly because it reminds me of the blob and i am a succer for any old horror movie! Also reconstruct 2 when it kills something is pretty sweet too!

The stalker is just really awesome imo. Invisible, hard hitter, stealthy...sure there is an upkeep but whatever, he is still cool!

The angel slayer is my honorable mention! What a bamf!

i think the stalker is probably overcosted by like 3 mana, tbh. If you add his upkeep over three rounds of attacking to his cost he's practically an 18 mana creature.

My point was not how viable and efficient it is. But how much i enjoy the flavor of the card

it is not about cost or value specificily. it is what is your favorite creature for whatever reason. clearly there are NO correct answers besides darkfenne hydra or gorgon archer.

I think my favorite creature has to be ... a couple of them.

Favorite art: Deptonne Bloodshaman (also my spirit creature)

Overall MVP: Skeletal Knight

Badass of the week: Water Elemental

Darkfenne asp has amassed some hate over the past year so I'm going for the little guy.  There is honestly so many good creatures it is hard to decide my favorite.  My favorite out of school creature to be Gorgon archer a close second is the magma golem.

My historical favorite (from when I started playing) was the Timber Wolf. Four dice is good, and with two armor and 10 life... it was hard to dispute the value. Nowadays there are so many ways to deal with two armor that it's almost not worth the cost in my opinion.

I have two favorites these days, one new addition to the game, and one old standard:

1) Knight of the Red Helm: You can often arrange for it to have a five die attack, and it is a little more survivable with its three armor. The thing that really sets it off as special to me is its Psychic Immunity.

and

2) Grimson Deadeye, Sniper: Four dice all the way out to range three... enough said. He will need some support though to keep him alive since he will be a focus of your opponent's hate the moment he hits the arena.

The funny thing is that I don't have these in any of my current books... maybe it's time to put together a Warlord.

Red Helm is very solid, I considered him. Against some books, he lets you very efficiently go for the throat, very early.

I don't like him bc the need for him to attack the strongest to get more dice is iffy imo.
The whole strategy where you run 2 with pally and then use banner to spawn 2 red helms is really quite bad imo.
But regardless, he is not a bad creature, just doesn't work for what I want to do.

That's a prime example of where I think it's great. This may be a metagame thing - I come across plenty of books with 0-1 enemy creatures other than the mage. Prior to the Wizard nerf, I'd have said it was a majority, and a heavy majority at that.

I agree. The psy immunity is pretty rad and he is a fairly overall good creature! I'm not a big holy or war player but the art on this guy is sweet and he makes his way into my warlord and priest books on the offchance i make one

.  My favorite out of school creature to be Gorgon archer a close second is the magma golem.

<3 magma golem!

Strange, I don't know if I have any particular spells which I consider my favorites. I mean, I like mind control, but that's a bit situational. Teleport is nice. Oh wait you're asking for creatures. Um...maybe I would pick the invisible stalker if he wasn't overcosted. Aside from that, I honestly don't know.

I thought I really liked the knight of redhelm but today I played around his two extra dice with ease against a priest.  just poped out a falcon and now he could not hit my my toughest creature.  The strongest creature thing can be easily avoided imo.  The psychic immunity is nice tho.  I still think timber wolves are very cost effective, just a solid creature.

I am also digging the wychwood hound for 5 mana - a 7 life 2 dice creature and than an added +1melee and armor with one or more hounds. math wise it's 10 mana for 14 life, 6 dice and two armor.  I know the damage dealt and piercing highly adjusts the  percentage of hit and amount of damage  but it's  stastically really good.

Just love my hounds!

My favorite creature is Guardian Angel, which is still a solid defensive unit despite its age (the healing two damage everytime that it guards and the defense chance means that it tends to survive a lot longer than it should).  After her, I have to give my vote to the Knight of Westlock even though it is a bit of a glass cannon (its relatively high armor and evade chance still allows it to live much longer than creature with similar health, and Knight's Courage has given it a lot of hitting power).

I really love Thornlashers and anyone who've played my Druid knows that I do :)

Besides those cute things I really like the new archers that were introduced in Academy Warlord. Especially the Straywood Archer caught my eye, being able to move and shoot is something I consider extremely powerful.
