Title: favorite spell
Post by: zot on October 05, 2017, 10:51:51 AM
i would like to know what folks favorite spell in the game is. it does not have to the best spell, or one you even put in books, maybe has a cool name or effect you like. perhaps it has your favorite artwork. just which spell is your favorite in the game. now not the top two or three, just one. edit - ok maximum of two.

i think mine is forcefield. cool picture, awesome effect. limited to my second favorite mage forcemaster. it also reminds me of the ninth level mage spell prismatic sphere from d&d.

i also really like the artwork for supression cloak. i think it would really great to have that in real life.

looking forward to hearing what everyone else likes.

I'll even go by category:

Equipment: Wychwood Ironvine. It's a very nice blend of protection and regeneration.
Conjuration: Tanglevine. I love the idea of tying people down and I often pretend I'm Spiderman shooting webs.
Enchantment: Ballad of Courage. I appreciate the simple minded battle rush.
Incantation: Rouse the Beast. It's a fun little surprise for people who thought they'd mapped out your actions.
Attack: Fireball. Nothing fancy or flashy. Great burn chance and a staple of so many fantasy settings.

ALL TIME FAVORITE
Creature: Steelclaw Grizzly. Come on it's basically my name here. Bears are awesome and eat peoples faces.

Favorite spell would have to be Pillar of Righteous Flames.  Yes its in a majority of books, but it is a game changer and a well placed pillar buys time, or can change the course of battle.  I also really like the epic feel in the art itself it feels and looks like a strong card just as much as the abilities it provides.

Second one as an ability goes is Magma golem.  Super cool card love the ability and its synergy with a certain fire mage.

Fav art - devils trident...but a second close is the angel slayer!
Fav card - enchantment transfusion :) jkjk
It is probably drown. The concept of slowly suffocating an enemy by filling their lungs and such with water sounds metal af!

true. i did want to say renewing spring. but i like the others for reasons stated. the spring is in my top three. i started  the thread to get folks favorites, not just the cards they happen to think are incredible. sometimes the answer is the same. but i suspect not for most. as in my case.

and i wanted to make it difficult which is why i did not to allow for categories. choose one or at most two cards.

I am a big fan of lightning spells. Favorite card is probably Chain Lightning. The ability to hit multiple targets is just a lot of fun, and the ability to daze/stun is pretty awesome as well. Circle of Lightning visually is terrifying to imagine. The school also has a Raptor in it which is just fun

Most awesomest art is clearly Sweeping Strike  ;D

My favorite card is Selesius. I've always wanted to have her be the focal point to a book.

I need to disagree with a few folks here. Focused Strike is the best art.

Not sure. Teleport, Forcefield, and Mind Control are fun. I would like decoy more if I had a use for it in competitive play.

I'm a fan of [mwcard=DNJ01]Altar of Skulls[/mwcard], which I use in multiplayer Domination to great effect. It's dripping with theme and acts as a ticking clock to a better Idol of Pestilence + Deathlock in one spell (well, two if you count the obligatory [mwcard=DNC01]Acolyte of the Bog Queen[/mwcard]... who then dies to the effects of the Altar she'd been praying to). Turns the focus of the game to "Destroy that thing ASAP" for everyone running living creature swarms, so as it powers up, out come the Ballistas and Force Hammers, etc. No good in one-on-one Arena though, in which case I'd just go with the [mwcard=MW1J11]Idol of Pestilence[/mwcard].

I'm also a fan of [mwcard=FWQ09]Sectarus, Dark Rune Sword[/mwcard], although the strategy doesn't work as often as I'd like.

[mwcard=FWQ01]Dancing Scimitar[/mwcard] is pretty awesome, and shows up in most of my solo/buddy books... along with [mwcard=MW1J04]Battle Forge[/mwcard] of course.

I tried to fight it guys, i racked my brain to find another option, but my favorite card is... Glancing blow! Its in literally all of my books and a pivotal part of a few of them. Im a huge fan of the mechanic and the effect. It keeps finding space in strategies and its always a pain to deal with.

2nd choice. Mana flower. Great art nice and useful and my buddy loves it  (and this game) so much he literally got a mana flower tattooed on his arm. A big one!

Hard to pin down, but some of my all time favorite creatures are blood demon and kumanjaran leopard.

Blood demon has amazing art. His tail, face and wings embody fear. Unless the opponent uses multiple attack spells to kill him, he is really difficult to kill with the flying and vampiric. Ever since hid release I have almost never seen or used different bloodreapers.

Kumanjaran leopard is also a ton of fun. Especially when you have some tooth and claws on the board, they really are worth the cost.

I'd have to say my current favourite would be Reverse Attack. I've always been fond of it, but in my last game it outdid itself when a perfectly timed play caused my opponent's buffed-up, undamaged Leviathan to nearly kill itself. It was certainly a thing to behold.

And Drain Soul, of course. The 12 life difference in one hit can be a game breaker. Especially when you play it twice in the round...

I think my top two have to be mage wand and dissolve/dispel.
Mage wand bc I play a lot of late game books and it helps me win the undoing game.
Dissolve/dispel bc their so vital to most books. They work really well with wands as well.

Just wanted to say i think this thread is really awesome!

Also, i know this is cheating by adding another and this art isnt my fav, but i wanted to give a shout out for dwarf kreigshammer. That artwork is pretty legit!

For sure the Mage Wand. It embodies control, flexibility and sustainability (my mage recycles). It is also excellent mage bling. 8)

Any task is easier with the perfect tool.

Tsunami!

Not tired of Tsunami Cheese :)

Sometimes the cheese goes bad... had a funny game today where four creatures were in a zone at the start of the turn, and tsunami did a total of 10 points of damage and one push. There were three d12 rolls of 1-2... go figure.

Anyway... favorite spell... I have to say I love my eight-die Luminous Blasts in terms of effectiveness... goes hand-in-have with Pillar of Righteous Flame, which is even better.

In terms of flavor, probably Necropian Vampiress. Just the thought of her swooping in from the sky gives me chills.

That may be true although in my last game I killed the genie with 3 pushes and I was able to do enough damage to kill the Mage with 4 pushes with one of those bash against a wall .  Managed to deal only 4 damage against the Mage so yea it may have had the pushes but the damage was fairly weak.
