Ok boys and girls in an effort to make my job easier when I go buy the snacks and drinks for the tournament on down the road I'm wanting to get an early head count of people attending. I know the registration page will eventually be up next month but I also want everyone else to be able to see the names of who they're facing this year. Lets get this hype train rolling!
There are 4 Mage Warriors representing the Carolina Mage Warriors this year: Littlenog, Jimillia, Drew, and Ken and they are all coming to win.
I've spoken to Mr Backer who's the spokesman(at least that I know of) for the St Louis Mage Warriors and he's promised 5-6 stout Mage Warriors all coming to take the championship.
So who else is stepping up? I'm also interested in where you're from as I like keeping track of regional differences in play style and communities.

I am Sailor Vulcan, champion of Justice and Reason, and in the name of my home planet Vulcan (Columbus Oh) I will correct errors and triumph over irrationality.
Btw I have dietary restrictions. Can't eat wheat corn or dairy, no added sugar (artificial or otherwise), can't eat junk food of any kind. Prefer no unhealthy additives, although sometimes preservatives are unavoidable and that's ok. I know you might think this rules out basically everything but it doesn't. There are lots of things I can still eat. :P
For instance, I can still eat veggies and hummus, or fruit and peanut butter, and most Mediterranean food is okay. Guacamole and salsa are still good to dip veggies in but not chips.
If this seems too much for you to remember then don't worry about it. Like maybe you can get some hummus and veggies as an extra healthy option or I'll just bring my own food for myself.

Yeah the late date for Gen Con is robbing us of a couple of players I'm noticing. It almost kept one of my staff from being able to make it and I know Puddinhead can't compete this year for that reason.

What materials (other than spellbooks) will we need should we want to join in on the informal games on Thursday, and do you happen to know what time people will be around that day? I am supposing that I should bring my spells for book modification possibilities, at the very least. Things like mage-specific tokens might be helpful.

For the practice sessions on Thursday I'd bring my books and mage specific tokens yeah. I'm thinking we'll be supplied like we were last year so we should have all anyone could need....but we don't want to take chances there.

Bring your Grizzly Slapping Hand to combat the horrible puns and your Dane Kicking Boots for when Mr Biblofilter pulls his shenanigans on you....you also may want to bring a Fire Extinguisher in case Sharkbait goes Trogdor on you...and don't forget a Lightning Rod to deflect the Bolt of Doom trifecta from the crusty old wizard, zot...
..also, Hand Sanitizer...it's always a good idea.

Oh almost forgot, in terms of schedule for the training and casual stuff I don't have the official schedule yet, that should be around the 28th when I have that. I doubt very much though it'll be hard to find some matches all weekend.

So a purely based mind's eye book is imo fairly weak.

I very much doubt that.
Mind's eye is the support, by itself it's hard to counter, but very winnable.
Be aggressve and then the eyes are just wasted sbp.

Lol you did not offend Millie I can promise you that Rant. We understand that in Mage Wars women are a minority of players and it was a simple miscalculation. In fact Jimillia sincerely hopes you beat every single MAN in the tournament, 2nd place trophy is no shame at all :) Furthermore Rant the Charlotte Mage Warriors enjoy a healthy tradition of friendly smack talk while remaining strictly professional with a high degree of sportsmanship once the match starts. With that in mind I'd say we all applaud your own efforts along those lines.

Yeah the news is I'm seriously considering raising the number of available seats. St Louis hasn't even signed up yet and we're already at the 1/3 point with registration only having been up 5 days so far. I know of at least six players who haven't bought tickets yet and you know we'll get last minute entries as always. Right now though it stands at 8 people registered for Arena, 4 for Domination, and 8 for Academy with 10 people signed up for the practice session.
Speaking of forest fires I did win a match against an Adramelech Warlock yesterday despite losing a bear to 7 burn tokens.

The Golden Rule is that if a set has been released One Month or more prior to a tournament then that set is legal for that tournament. I fear it's going to be very close for Forcemaster Academy. If Forcemaster Academy hits Retail stores by July 18th then it's legal.

I have a tournament ticket and a practice ticket going to anyone who wants it. These spots have already been purchased. Anyone who PM's me can have them. My favorite mage has been neutered with the recent expansions and I have no desire to compete.

agree to disagree. Just like straywood has been your main, AX has been mine. I've agonized (pun intended) over the cards. AW has hurt the AX more than helped. I was hoping for something in the academy forcemaster which did not come to fruition.

i,m with griz on this one. i think that warlock is still top tier. what i am hearing you say is that you refuse to adapt. this game will continue to expand. in that case it may be that some strategy or tactic needs to morph. or work on ways to make the old work by forcing your opponent to your will.
i think we are at a point where the field is wide open. play and continue to practice against as many different mages as you can. that experience will benefit you greatly. raising the bar for yourself, and your opponents as a result. those sessions should help point to updates you can make to improve your book.

What I'm seeing is that playtesters (everyone has their bias) have a certain idea in mind and can't see otherwise from the actual players. I'm open to going card by card from what has been released in relation to other schools.
I'll agree the cards are there, if you go out of school.

Free participation is what I'm offering. I personally don't see the AX as being competitive. It's a shame because he is my favorite mage. Had I known this was the way the game was going to turn, I wouldn't have purchased the tickets (probably not even the gen con tickets).
But I'm offering my slot free.
I'm predicting holy or force at this point.

Confirming my participation this year. My wife hasn't gotten a job yet, but my son has offered to advance me the money needed for my 4-day badge. I just got the email saying that the badge was just purchased.
Again, it'll just be for fun... and to be honest, I don't even know which mage I'm going to go with. I played a couple the other night and both seemed fun.
I see that there are plenty of tickets available for the Arena tourney, and a few for the practice time. But I have to ask... does the practice session really start at 6 p.m. Thursday, or can we show up early and play informally?

Well if they already have their tickets for the tournament then they already got badges. Still could hurt the late comers. I'd never heard of them selling out of badges before.

It looks like they are still selling badges for each of the individual days... so a Friday badge, and then a separate Saturday badge would work if someone were to make it to the finals.
I'm guessing that they sold out due to being the 50th.

It has not sold out. There are tickets left, about 8 of them at last count.
Yes he is the game designer and yes he's very good. But so are Sharkbait, Littlenog, Biblofilter, Jimillia, Zot, and a whole host of other players. This is promising to be a very exciting tournament with a lot of great matches brewing. I would recommend even players who are uncertain about their skill compete as the best way to learn and grow is through competition and that's one thing I can promise we're serving up lots of!

Most of my opponents had me at REALLY serious trouble, non of my games was easy.

congrats to all of the top players, especially biblo. i have to say that the competitive level of play this year was significantly better than all previous years where literally one mistake during all of the qualifier matches could cost your place in the top four. i know because that is exactly what happened to me. everyone played with a fierce intensity while keeping sportsmanship.

In terms of the competition I'll say that yes it certainly seemed stronger this year. Nobody had an easy road and as the champ said he was on the ropes several times. Littlenog, Zot, Millie, and Arthur all had him beat it seemed to me at times. It was skill and luck that saved the day for him but the same can be said of a lot of matches.
I'll call one group in particular: St Louis really upped their games this year. Players from this group took 2nd and 3rd this year and they played extremely well.

Arthur 3-1 at 21 Points.
As all three of the 3-1 players were tied in points a roll off was determined to decide who'd face Biblofilter in the Semi-Finals
