Title: Basic attack while holding multiple items
Post by: Rodge on February 24, 2015, 08:16:23 AM
I have something I'd like clarified.

If I have a Mage who's carrying two non-weapon items (say Mage Wand in main hand, Horn of Gothos in shield hand) - can I still make the basic attack as listed on the Mage's card?

I can't see anything against it in the rules, just seems funny from a "reality" point of view - maybe I'm bashing my target with the horn? :)

Yeah you can still make the basic attack. You can technically even make the basic attack if you're holding a weapon.

Yes they can. They also don't have to use the attack listed on a weapon they're holding but may instead opt to still use their basic attack. Equipment never takes away abilities unless they specifically say so. They simply add new abilities.

but bear strength counts, so if you want to wake up your sleeping creature by melee attacking it you roll 5dice, non optional but you doN't have to use your whatever weapon

Think of it this way, you don't need to punch your opponent for your basic attack. You can kick them or headbutt them or something instead.

Or you could just hit someone with a wand of healing... but since its not really a weapon, it just only hits about as hard as you would unarmed.

Thanks for the replies - what we suspected, but glad to have it clarified!
