Title: Tanglevine spell
Post by: teroks on February 02, 2013, 04:34:15 AM
Last night I played with my GF. She played Beastmaster and casted Tanglevine spell on Hydra. Is it allowed for Hydra to attack Tanglevine or should there be some other creature with melee trait to attack it?

Yes.
Tanglevine makes creature Restrained (and unmovable, according to errata). That condition allows creature any normal non-move actions*, so hydra can perform attacks.

*Restraind:
Quote
If a creature is Restrained, it cannot take any move actions. It can still be
Pushed or Teleported. Aside from movement, a Restrained creature may
take any quick or full actions during its Action Phase. A Restrained creature
cannot hinder the movement of enemies. A Restrained creature may go
on guard, but attacking creatures may ignore it (they do not have to attack
it). The only advantage a Restrained guard receives is the Counterstrike
trait. Flying creatures lose the Flying trait for as long as they are Restrained.
A Restrained creature suffers a -2 penalty to all defense rolls.
Uncontainable creatures and all conjurations cannot be
Restrained.

I think you'll find that Tanglevine is about 1 triplestrike in duration. :)

@Gewar

There's an errata?  Where might a curious individual locate this mystical text?

Edit: Are you just referring to the rules section of this forum?

It's a copy & paste from the Rule Book, page 43. :)

Edit: I suspect you were asking about the errata Gewar mentioned, on second read through.  That was posted here on the forums at http://magewars.com/jsite/forum/rules-notes-and-clarification/672-tanglevine-makes-targets-unmovable

Sorry for being dense.

If a creature is pushed or teleported out of tanglevine, what happens to the tanglevine ?

If creature is teleported, Tanglevine is destroyed.

Creature can not be pushed out of Tanglevine, since Tangelvine makes creature Unmovable source (http://magewars.com/jsite/forum/rules-notes-and-clarification/672-tanglevine-makes-targets-unmovable)

If a mage is teleported out of a tanglevine, the tangle vine is discarded.
