So next month we have a small tournament to benefit at risk kids in our area. Thing is, I'm not organizing it or running it. Yep one of my players decided to run her own event. Some of you have met Sarah at Gen Con, she's a nice gal and capable judge. I hadn't given it much thought other than "Go play in the thing" so I haven't picked a mage. Just to keep things interesting I'll play whatever mage gets the most votes. Love to hear peoples reasoning too. I'll keep the poll open for lets say two weeks? That'll give me time to make and practice a book if it's something I don't already have.

The wizard needs more love. He has been much more fun to play and play against ever since the errata to his training and his tower, but I suspect there are a lot of players who still have an aversion to him because of what he was like before the errata.
Also, priest of Malakai should be used more because of PvS, but I don't see many people running him on OCTGN. He is a very good mage.
Ever since the warlord set came out I've been seeing a lot more of the bloodwave. You might consider getting on the bloodwave bandwagon so to speak. Or you could play anvil throne. I haven't seen him played as much lately, but he benefits from the new war cards too.
Johktari beastmaster also needs more love, and you already have a lot of experience with straywood beastmaster, so you might as well master the johktari too.
Also, I want to see more interesting adramelech warlock builds. I haven't seen people playing as her much recently, but even when I did there wasn't that much variety in the strats I saw people using with her, as far as I can recall.

I say play the paladin.
He's one of the most flexible mages; you can go with a few buddies and a forge, you can go with a few buddies and no forge, you can go with a banner rush (not good in my opinion), you can go with the temple and use tons of light attacks ( a strategy I'm trying right now), you can go temple and just pump out big creatures with a meditation amulet, and more.
There really is no optimal strategy, after trying all of them I can say they work, it just comes down to personal preference.

I think built right now I have a Straywood, Siren, Anvil Throne, Adramelech Warlock, Paladin, and maybe a Wizard. I also have most of a Johktari but it'd have to be re done.

So I picked siren bc I feel she is under estimated and not represented in many tournaments. I do like playing the siren a lot. She is a nice combo of things going on similar to forcemaster and Druid.

Bloodwave for the sweet sweet formations! Gear Up + Goblin Swarm with a Troll backbone sporting Press the Attack and Standard Bearer. Little goblins doing 4 dice with a Reroll (5 dice on the charge!)

I "give other people a chance" when I judge and not play at Gen Con and Origins this year. 8)

I'm gonna try something different with my warlord soon. The Siren book is playable but needs more testing as I think it's missing something.

I voted Siren. It's not one of the most powerful mages, but it's also not hopeless, and it has lots of options. It's always interesting to see what good players do with that sort of mage.

How has the Siren done in tournament? I am curious because I have been having a lot of trouble getting her to work. Then again, I tend to be weak with combo mage and prefer more straightforward mage like the Necromancer and Priestess.

To my knowledge no tournament wins with the siren yet. She is super fun to play and with more people playing her and sharing insight i think she will become a force to be feared in tournaments to come

I'll let you know how Nerd Nexus goes. Unless a huge swing happens I'm playing Siren it would seem. To the best of my knowledge I have not seen her played in a competitive tournament except by Charlotte's own resident "I've won 2 total matches" and Gen Con judge: James. She wasn't at Gen Con last year and I don't think she was at Origins.
But you'e gonna see a reasonably skilled player do his best with her next month. At least it's not a friggin Druid :)
