Title: All our early n00b mistakes
Post by: Sailor Vulcan on May 15, 2015, 10:16:08 AM
I remember when I first started playing mage wars and I had just stopped playing magic and I included like 6 mana flowers in my first spellbook. Which was kind of pointless since I always forgot to increase my channeling stat anyway.

Also, sometimes missed the target lines for things.

What are some of your early n00b mistakes?

I think my biggest struggle was with the not reading the Target bar properly. The spell that I misused the most was Teleport, I thought that the Target has to be two zones away and the range on the board was unlimited.

I remeber using Range +1 enchantement to shoot 1 zone further :)

Trying to Harmonize a Mana Crystal to increase my channeling.  Oh the embarrassment!

Using the [mwcard=MW1Q30]Staff of Beasts[/mwcard]'s ability (giving melee +2 to target animal) as a free action. Basically, as long as I had mana, I could buff an animal before sending him in to attack. And then, my mage himself would attack ...

Useless to say, I found that staff pretty powerful! However, it was dissolved rather quickly.

I didn't realize that Lay Hands cannot target your mage.

And I'll not forget the myriad times that I could not understand how Slam works...

-Not realizing that you can't nullify a dispel.
-Thinking that flying creatures can't hinder other flying creatures due to my incorrect reading of the words.

Oh and let's not forget the mistakes I made public on the internet:
-Thinking that a restrained creature can't use a defense
-Forgetting that a slammed creature is incapacitated and thus the slammed mage can't cast an attack spell during that quickcast phase
-Casting stumble on a flying creature.

...And those didn't even happen that long ago! Agh!

My most embarrassing mistake would be knowing when you can use your quick cast and when to reveal enchantments. I played 2 whole games not knowing when you can use your quick cast.

Wat Care to explain?
So I cannot teleport myself from one side of the map to the other???

I remeber using Range +1 enchantement to shoot 1 zone further :)

been there, done that.
Same used steal enchantment twice to attach to my hydra so it had 2 range.

Also read eagle wings incorrectly and put it on my Mage. In the same game cast fireball twice with a single elemental wand... I won that game.

Trying to Harmonize a Mana Crystal to increase my channeling.  Oh the embarrassment!
Happened to me too. Every game people had maxed out channeling.

Not using the spell that's named teleport. BOTH the target zone and the target creature have to be 0-2 zones away from the caster.

Divine Intervention can teleport a creature that far though.

I played that all spells bound to a wand became quick.
Interpreted the text wrong that it takes a quick action to bound something to making it quick.
Made a lot of the heavy spells awesome.

We also played wrong with multiple guards in the same zone. We thought that the defender could pick who would guard when the opponent were attacking in a zone with more than one opposing guards.
