Have the Mage Wars Area rules been changed in any way from the third edition, apart from adding the word Area of course.

Yes, on several points they've been updated and clarified. I've been working on an update to the Rules and Codex Supplement that should help make it easier to see the changes. Mostly it's a matter of clarification. Hopefully we should have the new rulebook itself up soon.
