Title: Question about the LoS of the target zone of Teleport
Post by: Wildhorn on February 01, 2014, 10:29:01 PM
My friend asked a very good question.

If you want to teleport a flying Creature to a zone behind a wall, can you?

In other words, does the LoS to the target zone has to be the ground or it can be the "sky" if the creature is flying?

LoS is to that of caster not the target

I know that. It is not my question. The caster has LoS to the sky, then can he teleport a flying creature "behind" the wall or he need LoS with the ground to be able to.

That is an interesting idea...the caster can see the sky in the zone he wants to send the creature to, just not the ground, and this creature will be in the sky. Currently however the answer is no, he would not be able to teleport unless he had los to the zone, which as currently defined would be blocked by a wall.

I agree with this decision and think that thematically teleports must inherently place things at ground level. After the teleport the flier takes back to the air immediately. Otherwise, if you could teleport things into the air, you could use it to insta-kill stuff.

[mwcard=MW1I28] Teleport[/mwcard]

So I think I have a better understanding of what is being asked. Since the second target on the target bar is Zone, I would rule that the wall is blocking LoS to the zone.

Sike is correct. Since the target of teleport is creature AND zone, LOS would be required for both. If you do not have LOS to the zone you want to teleport the target to, it becomes an invalid target.

As stated you do need to see the zone to target it.

Teleport does not require LoS

Teleport does not require LoS

The spell does the ability does not. Several questions threads have been made for how teleport works. You should check them out. Just use the search on the top right.

The teleport effect does not require LOS, but the specific incantation spell "Teleport" does, which is what we assume he is talking about since he mentioned needing LOS to a target zone and asked if seeing the sky in that zone was enough when dealing with fliers. In that case it is not enough because if it needs LOS then a wall would block you from having such even if the creature is airborne.

Now, if the teleport comes from something else like divine intervention, then LOS is not an issue.
