After the success of our first two Mage Wars meet-ups, I think it is time to try my hand at running a tournament. Here are the details (subject to change):
Where: The Games Keep – 929 South High Street, West Chester, PA 19382 (484) 905-5533
When: Saturday November 23rd (12pm sign-up; 12:30 slinging spells)
Entrance fee: $5 which will go toward prizes in the form of store credit
What to bring: Your 120 point spell book – NO UNRELEASED PROMO CARDS ALLOWED. Also, please bring your copy of the game as we will need boards, markers, dice, etc. to play.
Format: We will play a Swiss style format. Rounds will last 90 minutes.
Tiebreaker: We will use the most damage inflicted as our tiebreaker method for games that go to time. Players must record all the damage they inflict on the opposing mage. Whoever has inflicted the most damage when time is called will be the winner.
Promo cards from the Unholy Tides Organized Play Kit will be available for all participants!
I have run several tournaments in the past, but this will be my first attempt at running one for Mage Wars. Please feel free to leave any comments, concerns, suggestions or to ask any questions below. I really want this to be a great event so I am open to your ideas.

I'm planning on being there. I'll see if I can drag anybody with me.
-
I am amiable to being dragged. I'll have to ask off at work, though.
-
I hope to attend this event too.
Did we ever hear back from AW on new tournament rules. I thought they were rethinking these in light of recent tournament play results.
-
I'm In. If I can get off

Glad to see some more interest this time around! There are at least two other people who have said they are planning on being there so this is shaping up to be a pretty good event. Hopefully everybody can clear the date and make it out.
I have no idea on the status of the Arcane Wonders tournament rules. I am not dead set on any of the rules posted above and am willing to listen to any alternatives. I was just going off how the events were run at GenCon this past August.

Hey everyone. We are less than a week away from this event and I just wanted to give this thread a bump to see if there is anyone else interested in joining us. Also, it would be great if the people who are planning on coming out can just post here and confirm they are still planning on attending. Thanks and I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

Bad news on my end, looks like I'll be working overtime this Saturday. If that changes I'll update.

That stinks. Hopefully things change and you can manage to make it. Any idea if Ringkitchard is still planning on coming?

I won't be able to make this event either. Sorry.
Good luck with the tournament.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully next time.
At this point I have 6 confirmed attendees so we are still having the tournament. Hopefully a few more people can give me some good news and let me know that they are coming. Fingers crossed.

I should be able to make it. I haven't been able to make the last two event, but it is looking pretty good for me to be there for this one.

Great! Looking forward to meeting you, Ed.

I'll find out my schedule for tomorrow, tonight. Yes, my work schedule for the coming week isn't posted until the last possible moment. :\
-
Also, will Druid v. Necro be available / legal?
-
Wow, Ring, that has got to make planning anything difficult. Hopefully it works out.
I was hoping that DvN would be widely available for this, but it doesn't look like that is the case. I think I will still allow it for the tournament if people have it because I didn't say that any released cards were illegal. I have no idea if The Games Keep has any in stock right now. People could call the store (484 905-5533) and find out if they want to know ahead of time or to reserve a copy.
Full disclosure: I have a copy in hand but will not be using any of the cards from the set.

Yeah, it does make planning things difficult. For example, I did get the day off, but since Altropos (who was going to drive) now has to work tomorrow, I'll need to see if my wife needs the good car / if she would like to come. So I'll let y'all know my plans tomorrow; sorry for the cliff hanger!
Also, someone make me a job offer. I work cheep!

It can now be revealed, my loving wife* and I will be in attendance!
Come on down today to The Games Keep – 929 South High Street, West Chester, PA – and play against a real live playtester, and win!*
Gotta go get ready! See ya in a few hours!
*she'll be in the corner, knitting.
**winning not guaranteed, merely very likely.

Awesome! I am leaving now. See you all in a little bit.
-
Hit a bit of traffic, on target for 12:29 arrival.

I had a great day of gaming with everyone yesterday! Hopefully everyone else enjoyed themselves as well. Huge thanks to everyone who came out and competed. Also thanks to Karl, the owner of The Games Keep, who allowed us to duke it out in his store.
There were 6 different mages represented: Fire Wizard, Air Wizard, Warlock, Druid, Forcemaster, and Warlord. In the end my Warlock was able to win it all after several very close matches. The Forcemaster came in second. Hope we can all do it again soon. Keep your eyes peeled for my next event. (Probably sometime in January.)

Sounds like I missed a good time. Any further details of the event?
