Strategy and Tactics / Re: tournament viable necromancer?
« on: December 20, 2015, 03:23:55 AM »
@drmambo23
The Necromancer is full of surprises and possible builds. I find that usually when I'm testing a core idea out for a build, the necromancer is always the one that I never prepare for enough. Simply being resistant to certain book strategies alone makes him tough to deal with.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Dark Domination
« on: December 17, 2015, 04:46:59 AM »
I'd cut a firebrand or two for more wildfire imps. They are pretty dang amazing for Domination.

In addition, I recommend dropping some of that armor. Most of the time you won't need in Domi, if you're worried about burst damage then put in some Brace Yourselves and try to outlast them, which is what will probably happen if you're playing for orbs and they aren't.

Also, some elusive cards will help out. Once they kill a slack you can teleport an imp over and smack the orb past their guard to deny them those valuable v'tar.

Looks fun, let us know how it goes!

That's a heck of a book Kanedio. Have a match, give us a battle report, and then we can offer some more suggestions. Excited to hear how it goes!  :D

All of Romeo's points are valid. It's ultimately up to you on whether you want to run Adramalech or Sersiryx, they do completely different things.

Adramalech (along with Ring of Fire) might be a plausible answer to swarms. If you are trying to chip away at your opponent with curses and they're attacking you a growing number of creatures then eventually they'll out race you. You may want to lay off the curses for a couple of turns if you see your opponent casting so many creatures, then save that mana for Adramalech because he eats foxes for fun. Once the man threat is out of the way you can transition back to your win strategy.

Enchanter's Wardstones won't protect your enchantments forever, but they may protect them on the round that you cast the stone. After that they're just useful for gaining major mana economy. I don't particularly like to summon them in the opening, instead I'll cast them right after or before I reveal an enchantment I want to keep around. Counting your opponent's mana for the current and following round is crucial to making such a strategy work.

As far as Mage Bane and Ghoul Rot go, they won't be curseweaved if your opponent dispels them, So you'll need the extra copies for that. If you think that one creature will live by one health then Chains of Agony isn't the worst option out of Sectarus since it will finish them off and then you can curse weave. Finally, an AMAZING curse to return to your hand is Rise Again, I've both won and lost games that swung wildly in someone's favor because of that card.

Glad I could help, thanks for joining us on the forums  ;D

Hey Kanedio, just some thoughts:
  • If you're planning on physically attacking as much as it looks like you are then you're probably going to want some surging waves and/or acid balls. If you don't hav ethem then maybe a Knockdown and another Rust will suffice.
  • I'd go down to one agony
  • You're really going to want more ghoul Rots and Magebanes. They seem to be the main strategy for whittling your opponent down, so you'll want to backups for when they get removed.
  • I find that enfeeble replicates Force Crush pretty well without the commitment. Without the Crush you'll free up some points, unless it's part of your strategy to win, in that cast you'll need more :)
  • I'd suggest Wand of Healing instead of Purify
  • Maybe a Magewand for multi dissolve/explodes and teleports?

That's what I have from a quick glance, most of it was pretty solid. Do you have all the expansions?

League / Tournament Play / Re: GA players?
« on: December 13, 2015, 05:50:09 AM »
Only two players!? Ugh, I'm sorry. If we could get down to you I'd gladly have a match.

Until you get more players there may I suggest OCTGN? It's not a substitute for real life games but it will allow you to get some games in to scratch that itch.

General Discussion / Re: Serious Kudos to Arcane Duels
« on: December 13, 2015, 05:40:28 AM »
Well thanks guys! We really appreciate it.

The community has really boomed in the past year or so, but we're not the only ones that contributed.
  • LordOfWinter - Was keeping a constant blog post along with keeping people informed about developments in the company.
  • SiKe - Working relentlessly to keep the game updated on OCTGN so we can all play remotely.
  • ACG - The other face of OCTGN, along with throwing out Card ideas.
  • Sailor Vulcan - Constantly posting in the forums to keep it alive and bringing up interesting ideas to spark conversation, in addition to working on builds that don't need expansions.
  • Schwenkgott - Doing all of the things, but also giving us the quarterly Thunderdome tournaments.
  • TheDude - Being awesome and starting the Mage Roars League.
  • Sharkbait - Starting the MageCast podcasts on strategy and contributing heavily to the AD stream.
  • Puddnhead - Cohosting the MageCasts and also being on the stream frequently.
And these are just the immediately apparent ones coming to mind (Sorry if I forgot to mention you). There are so many playtesters and great players improving the game every day.

AWESOME!

whatever a fatigue fm is ;)

it is the logical consequence to high armor tanks to go to dot, with poisened blood and deathlook, to make sure regrowth doesnt mitigate the healing. in the absence of critical strike and high piercing.

You know, a FM that just tires you out over time and beats you due to exhaustion ;)

I also ran one in my match against Drefan. He ran 5 dispels and 4 nullifies as a warlord, a complete surprise! The DoT did get him in the end but I have to say, any Warlord build I would have ran wouldn't have come close to beating that type of build.

So once again, kudos to Sailor for showing me such a cool idea for the forcemaster. I really think this type of book could reach the highest echelons of play.

A lot of people have been curious about new options for the warlock and holy school. What can we expect out of the next Academy set?  ;)

Later we were able to get a hold of Aaron. He said that the Genie's wish is indeed a quick action. While most cards from Academy were specified, the Genie slipped through the cracks.

« on: November 22, 2015, 03:32:40 PM »
Here are the pairings:

Mystery v. Coshade
Puddn v. Arxiducs
Intangible v. Drefan
Schwen v. Adoryc
Moldrid v. Halewjn
Theas v. Shark

Dude gets the bye.

Lucky me.

Have fun guys! Make sure you post your books after the match. As well, it looks like coshade and intangible have been awesome enough to post some of these matches on their incredible youtube channel Arcane Duels. If you haven't seen any of the matches, ch-ch-check them out!

Ahahaha! Unlucky you, the whole point of the league is to get to play more. Sorry bud.

Thanks for the mention! We'll try to bring as much coverage to it as we can  :D
