Title: Action Markers a Limit?
Post by: WTFGamer on March 21, 2013, 08:23:03 AM
Playing as the Warlord, I quickly filled the board with low cost creatures. I ran out of action markers and wonder if they represent any kind of component limit in the game, or can you use pennies or any other substitute for action markers?

They do not represent a limit and pennies make a great substitute.

So do all my bottle caps from during the game....Heineken caps with its red star makes for a very recognizable action marker. :)

You are an inspiration. Or to be more precise, you gave me an idea for a new drinking variation of Mage Wars. I don't have a name for it yet, maybe you can help me with that.

In this variation the only difference from standard Mage Wars is the action markers are shot glasses. During the upkeep phase you ready your action markers by filling them with your favorite liquor. The quick action marker is only filled half full. Whenever you activate a creature you drain the shot glass. The empty shot glass indicates the creature has been used. Victory is still achieved by defeating the enemy mage.

Well what do you think? I'm guessing that swarm strategies will end up with the lowest winning percentage.

ROFL!!! I would be showing up with a vodka bottle full of water! Maybe with pony shot glasses (Your standard american version) I could make it through a game....You just really want to give that solo warlock more of an advantage dont you???
And for a name....Mage Pours.

Mage pours, that's awesome.

The solo warlock and forcemaster need all the help they can get. The beastmaster and warlord players better be wealthy or bring some cheap booze or they'll go broke. Then there's the liver transplant they're going to need.

Ill have to bring the "Tinschlager". Its kinda like Goldschlager, but you take cheap cinnamon schnapps and drop in little pieces of balled up tin foil. Its the drink of champions in my house.

I like the sweet stuff better than it likes me. Never was much for shots of tequila. I like my scotch old, on the rocks, and sipped. I guess that leaves me with JD.

Good god.  I can see by round 5 of this 'varient' you'd lose the ability to read.

Lemme guess, vomiting at any point immediately causes you to take 5 critical damage...  :)

But on a positive note you may pay the mana cost and remove 1 poison condition marker of your choice.

It would probably be best to remove a rot gut condition.

I can see it now, the Forcemaster facedown in the new Holy fountain, her sick floating on the water whilst the Warlock tries to light his own gas with a botched bit of fire magic.

Quality.

Yep! I can see now that the Priestess is going to have to summon some extra Asyran Clerics to maintain the, ummm, sanctity of the Renewing Spring. I got a sneaking suspicion that's not what the Beastmaster will be doing in it.

I guess we better have a fire truck standing by just incase a warlock is playing.

A funny image eh?

You could have a hell of a night with the Angel of Light and Angel of Lightning too B) Valshalla particularly looks like a good time gal to me.

Bit of Bull Endurance, Mongoose Agility and Barry White playing on The Horn of Gothos....

First I would rouse the beast and then I would slam Valshalla until she was crippled.
I was stunned by that fact that afterwords I started to burn.
As if by divine intervention, our relationship started to dissolve.
I dispelled all previous notions of her being all that holy.
After that I decided the upkeep wasn't worth the cost.
It was as if she had some sort of bloodlust.
I was in agony, my heart, turn to stone, she banished me from the apartment, I felt like my heart was going to explode.
Returning to my old lair, I could only lay hands on myself.
At first I thought I would retaliate, fight tooth and nail, but then I became more passive.
So now all I do is sleep.

Roflmao!  I knows it's still early in the year but I am giving this a nomination for best post of the year award. I don't even want to try and follow that one.

You know, I think if it had to be moved it should have gone to the Alternative Play section. Putting Mage Pours in the Off Topic section is like saying it doesn't deserve the same consideration that other variants get. :(

Clearly Mage Pours is one of the most challenging variations yet conceived. You have to be able to concentrate under duress, possess an extra amount of manual dexterity to maneuver your cards without spilling, and a strong constitution to avoid passing out ( or other drinking related hazards     ) before the final round of the tournament (if there were to be one).
