Print it out then sleeve it.

That's cheating!

I really don't want to buy more core sets to get to cooler art.

I've never opened the new set. I've given all the 4th copies I've had away. I really like it though.

Events / Re: What's Winning Gen Con?

One thing I always get bothered by at Gen Con is people not getting enough practice in. With that in mind I'll be spending all evening Thursday fighting people with my books, bring your tournament book and lets fight. I may even try to get this set up as an all day event as well.

There are pros and cons to this.

if you make it an all day event, it gaurentees you table space which is always a pain in the ass to find at GenCon. That's one of the bad things of Gen Con is there is little to no room for any open gaming.

If you make it an event, it has to be paid for. they charge for space by the hour which is reflected in Ticket price.  That is why a 1 hour event is $2, and the MW tournament, an 8hr event is $16.  If this is an "event" for all day, say Thursday 10AM - 10PM, its going to cost somewhere around $24 a person.  Also how many "seats do you request? 10, 16? I'm not sure if that has to be paid for in advance and you get the ticket money back or something, but there is definitely a cost associated with it.

We're still debating GenCon because the cost keeps going up every year. And if we come, It'll be with the Wife and the baby, so I probably would be able to do an all day thing, but maybe drop in for 2-3 hours for a game or 2. I'm not going to pay $24 to drop in for one / 2 games.

You'd probably be better off trying to wing something Wednesday and Thursday nights in one of the local hotels that AW is putting you guys up in.

Spellbook Builder / Re: My spellbook builder

This is working really nice.

Although it really needs academy cards...

Thanks for the great work, and hope to see an academy update really soon.

Ray how big is your meta? I just played sharkey the other night who built an army. In fact most warlords ive seen lately run critters and spawn points. I know that holy warlords were big a while back before FiF and PvS, but that has largely changed. Puddns warlord is really conjuration heavy. My buddy eggshen plays a goblin heavy warlord. I can't see why with dwarf panzerguarde in school a warlord would need to go to holy for a KoW or a GA. That's wasted points. I know you don't like Octgn but you might get a broader view if you at least spectate some games. It really does help.

I've been watching the arcane duels matches, although its insanely boring and almost impossible to do on a phone, but I've not seen any warlord books with more than 2-3 creatures.

elementalist:-)

Since the wizard has only the air school left, something missing!
I think the elementalist will be train in all 4 elemental schools, and pays for Mainschools double.

we shall see....

I don't believe the warlord.  I want to see one that actually plays with creatures and uses barracks and outposts.  The buddy build books just bother me.

Is there any one out there using creatures or is everyone only using one or two big holy creatures?

Website Support and Feedback / Re: Spellbook Builder
« on: January 19, 2017, 03:47:41 PM »
I discovered Tony's post shortly after posting my question. I have always loved this game and bring it every week to my massive 100+ player gaming group yet can't get people willing to play, not only because of it's complexity, but because of lack of support from the company. The last time I played MW was at GenCon.

Yet last week, out of the blue an old friend I haven't talked to in about 5 years appeared at my gaming group with a friend. they asked what I was playing and I hadn't decided on anything yet, as I had just finished a game of Boss monster. I mentioned that I bought my favorite game ever, but can't ever get people to play it with me. when I told him it was mage wars, his face totally lit up. He owns every expansion except for PvS, and also never gets to play and loves it.

So I ran them both through a game, and not the other guy is going to get it, so I have a few people to play with, yet no real easy way to build new books.  I look forward to next week playing the one guy who is going to bring a book of his own, (he watches tons of the Arcane duels streams), and crushing him with playtest cards that aren't released yet!

But getting a functional SBB is incredibly important. And you are even smaller of a company then you were since letting Aaron go. The fact that players are growing on OCTGN shows that the game is loved, but it appears that AW does not support the players.

Any update on if Spell Book Builder will ever be worth using again?

It's still missing -

Domination
Paladin Vs Siren
Lost Grimore
Academy Beastmastrer
Academy Priestess
Academy Warlock
Academy Wizard

This lack of updating just leads more to the effect of AW, losing interest in supporting MW.
It makes it seem like AW is forcing people to use 3rd party software (OCTGN) to play the game.  To me this is us acceptable. While Wizards of the cost is an infinitely larger company, when a new magic set is released, it is uploaded into their card database.  We are currently over a year behind on cards being added to spell book builder.

A set is completed 4-5 months before it is released to the public. there is no excuse that those cards can not be created for upload into SBB in that time frame, and have them uploaded into the builder the same week the cards are released to game stores.

Lost Grimore final file was released to playtesters in late April and released to the public in November. That was 6 months, from final Digital version to printed product, yet those cards are still not in SBB. Battlegrounds: Domination was released well over a year ago.

Has AW given up on supporting MW other than releasing card sets?

Spells / Re: How do you play with druid's plants?
« on: August 03, 2016, 10:34:36 PM »

I always run 2 nightshade lotus and 2 corrosive orchids. Their ability to make an unavoidable attack before or after one of your creature is huge. Add on top of that, their sleep and dissolve abilities and these are two awesome plant conjurations.

I think if the elemental wand is a dud in my book i'm going to find a way to drop in a lotus.

General Discussion / Re: Mage Selection
« on: August 03, 2016, 10:32:36 PM »
I usually ask my opponent if they would prefer a mage to vs against in particular. Sometimes I just lay out books and ask which one they would like me to play based on the cover (mwahaha).

I've done that. and they don't know what him them when you whip a beastmaster out of the necromancers book.

increase the armor with Rhino hide.

They regenerate 1, as well as have Vampiric so they heal everytime they attack.

If I need to I drop the life tree to give them more HP and a chance to regen if they get to the zone the tree is in.
