"Each time a different enemy creature is attacked and damaged by a friendly creature, place 1 mana on Pentagram. Pentagram may gain a maximum of 2 mana this way per round. During the deployment phase, if there is 2 or more mana on Pentagram, it may summon 1 dark living creature."
Read literally, once a it triggers for one creature, it cannot ever trigger for that creature again, since that creature is no longer 'different', it is the same as a creature that has been targeted by Pentagram before. The intent could be made explicit by placing the phrase "this round" or "this game" at the end of the first sentence, but I don't know which phrase I should use.

I assume this condition is reset every round. This way you can gain 1 to 3 mana each round.
If you compare with other buildings:
Lair: 2 mana per round
Gate to voltari: 1 to 3 mana per round
Temple of Asyra: 1 to 3 mana per round
It seems fair.

I suspect that is probably the intent but if it is then it needs an FAQ entry and an official response since the card, as it reads, doesn't reset.

How can you get 3 mana per round? The card wording explicitly says no more than 2 mana per round.

Sean is correct. Pentagram is limited to a max of 2 mana a turn.

when Pentagram says it can only gain a maximum of 2 mana "this way", it is referring to the attacking and damaging of different enemy creatures. in addition to this it has channeling 1 so it gains 1 mana during the channeling phase, for a possible total of 3 mana per round. you could also enchant it with Harmonize for an additional mana during the channeling phase... so you could conceivably get up to 4 mana per round.

Yep, re-reading it makes me realize you and Mathias are completely right. Thanks.
