Hey Sailor Vulcan, do you think it is because of "Mage Wars" itself or is it the normal "being sick of X" reaction? Because you are a very devoted player and loreguru it can easily occur that you are just overfed with it. In the later case - just try taking a break (I had similar reactions to other games I play, i.e Diablo 3, Lord of the rings LCG) and come back later when there is new stuff.

Getting sick of the comparison but as you know this is not magic where the meta changes every two months due to new cards and this difference has its up and downsides. (I personally prefer this method but I can see it feeling lackluster sometimes)

I for myself do not play that often so it will take a while to get sick of Mage Wars, then again, I am not as invested as you are.
Please explain what bothers you with the current meta?

General Discussion / Re: Is mage wars losing popularity?
« on: January 27, 2015, 04:05:20 PM »
I still love the game but the Post had some interesting points.

Dice VS Draw - I think the huge problem here is the lenght of a single game. If I have a bad starting hand in Magic, the game is over pretty quick and I may ask for a rematch. In MW, as far as I experienced, there are 4-6 /really/ important rolls per match and as perviously mentioned: negativ results tend to stick in mind easier as the expeted "good" roll. If there are two miserable rolls in a game, there will be a feeling of unfairness.

Considering the damage of a roll it seems odd that there is a same chance for critical hits as there is for normal hits, whereas crits are much more dangerous. (Here I am sure that the desingers of the game put really good thought into the games math, as I heard in one of the MWM-podcast Episode, but still, it feels odd)

Everything else has been mentioned and I do not want to be rendundat :D - I prefer dice, I too find the first 2 rounds relativly repetetiv, but its okay!

General Discussion / Re: Tips for losing to new players
« on: December 19, 2014, 09:41:14 PM »
This topic is fun :D

I'd agree on most parts, just react to the opponents action in an understandable but not "perfect" manner.
Letting him kill your creeps is also very statisfying, so is the Harry Potter Wandfight. Just adjust to what he wants "the game to be" and let him feel the power of hi choices.

As previously discussed i am against the "build up until he starts attacking you" because it teaches bad gaming. Yes I played the same way at the beginning, but it just takes way too long and gives a wrong impression. Go hit him with a bitterwood fox and force his first action, then do as told above.

I really like the aforementioned idea of attacking armored creatures with attackspells to show off the conditions!

Yeah other colors would really be nice but it would be stupid from a marketing point of view since they sell those etra as an "4 Player set".

just spray them yourself or paint them otherwise :D

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: The Johktari RUSHmaster
« on: December 19, 2014, 09:19:34 PM »
So this Rushmaster is pretty nice and in theory I struggle against it too.

I am thinking of an "average" playstyle that can be pulled off with a standard spellbook because getting even more aggressiv then this book is nearly impossible since this book is build to be as aggro as possible.

If you play blind against it, you will loose the first time for sure i guess! Reverse Attack is not avaiable in any of my books so i'd choose Block instead (which i always have 2 in each book). It won't prevent all of the damage but you get quite a mana advantage on which you can build on. Maybe you can create a small window to gain action advantage since the rushmaster is solo without any familiar/spawnpoint. The match is going to be long and difficult but after you got rid of the akiros favor (which is in my opinion key to the fatality of this book) and dissolve any elemental wand the rushmaster will sooner or later run out of stamina (attackspells :D)

It is in no way easy and unprepared quite impossible but if you know what you are up to i guess you can turn the odds in your favor - even if the rushmaster knows your book, it just becomes a huge game of psychologie but aggro i all aggro can do so you have got to have patience.

I am missing serious game experience so please some of the more veteran players or even Intangible himself comment on my thoughts and if this is possible :)

Off topic / Re: What other games do you like?
« on: September 04, 2014, 06:10:10 PM »
My Girlfriend and I got heavily into the Lord of the rings LCG - we were both turned off by the difficulty but then we played easy mode. Nowadays we can play the normal game and achieve victories as well and since she is in England right now I started playing it solo and I am having a blast with it!

If anyone wants a difficult cooperative/solo LCG set in the Tolkien universe i can only recommend it. But notice that the core game is only the tip of the iceberg of this game - you may follow the bookstories by buying the Sagas expansions or even go further and buy adventure packs or deluxe expansions.

Alternative Play / Draft/Sealed Mage Wars
« on: August 27, 2014, 11:29:06 PM »
Hey Forum,

I love the game and nearly all of the cards thus I am sad that many of them will never see the light of competetiv play. Within all TCGs/LCGs there are cards that do not match the current powerlevel and Mage Wars has no way of dealing with it.

Many of you may have heard of Drafted/Sealed playstyle in Magic - I found it to be the most enjoyable way because it challenges deckbuilding, descisionmaking and playing all in the same manner!

[Drafting is where every player has 3 Boosterpacks containing 15 random cards and they open up the first one, pick a card and give it to the player that sits next to him, this goes on until every card is distributed and then you build a deck out of the drafted cards; Sealed means you get a bunch of random cards - 6 Booster - and go for the best; Both build a deck out of 23 cards and 12 Lands (not included in the Boosterpacks)]

So here goes my tricky question:

How to add this to the Mage Wars universe?

Since you have several Mages you'd have to choose a Mage first (which is the first problem, since the opponent should not know your mage and 2 of the same is kind of boring) - A fine Solution is randomly picking a mage (and giving the ones where there are male/female orc/dwarf the abilitiy to choose what Mage you want)

Next problem is: There are no boosters. Since their content should be random i'd be pretty difficult to manage without giving some mages a disadvantage :/

Sealed could be like the starter spellbooks with a fair toolbox to customize the books, which will need a lot of balancing.... Not happy with my thoughts...

Please help me, I am somewhat desperate.... It is just impossible :(

Well winning 30 games in a row in the early meta still manages to impress me :D

Necroing this thread, it is a really good read AND i've got to be sure: Is the Foremaster-insta-kill really possible?

Mages / Re: Paladin and Siren speculation
« on: August 26, 2014, 08:02:48 PM »
If the Siren will be focussed mainly on Water she'd be the first major-elemental Mage ever.  This might change the meta pretty much and add a new flavor for the waterwizard, because there will be much more water spells - I am very excited about the Expasion! Mind will be her second school i guess, just as you mentioned.

And the Paladin would be the first to be trained in two schools of magic! All other Mages are elemental hybrids and he'd go straight to holy and war.
