The earth elemental is weaker than iron golems for a warlord because its too expensive for him to equip teleports and Mage wand, while he can use helm of command + charge on golems.

On the other hand, EE + Wizard is amazing. The ability to teleport into a zone and immediately hit for big damage plus high Slam chance... Really great.

agreed.  when i first saw the earth elemental in playtesting i immediately thought.....  earth wizard.

of course when he first came out he wasnt slow lol

i would also like to add that if you want an 8 die fire attack on a wand, use the fireshaper ring and add a hawkeye enchantment to yourself.  the fireball counts as a ranged attack giving you the extra die for hawkeye and an extra die for the fireshaper ring.

Actually we are debating the Hawkeye thing on another thread at the moment, so the jury is still out on that one. I'm in agreement with you but we'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

Here is the link.

this shouldnt even be a question.  attack spells are ranged attacks (as denoted by the ranged attack symbol on the card) the strategy of combining fireshaper ring and hawkeye (or at the time it was lightning ring and hawkeye and thunderbolt) this was first brought to my attention at gen con while playing with one of the original playtesters (shadow to be exact) i will be very surprised if i have been playing this incorrectly.

1.
3. A flavor question that has been bothering me. Earth Elemental's quake stomp. It is indicated as a 0-0 ranged attack, but can it really hit flying creatures?

For Elemental Creature - the stomp must be so strong that rocks or stones from the ground actually flew that high to hit the flying creatures :)

I read this as: "A range is range.  And a range can hit flying creature. Except that a 0 zone 0 range mean that it only hits people in the same zone."

The Psylok of the Forcemaster is a 0-0 range flyer (critical hit).  <-- cool flying creature who never gets grounded because he always does a range attack. Only melee gets grounded.

im not sure what you mean by never gets grounded. a normal flying creature is only considered on the ground for the durration of the attack at which point he returns to flight, this is so things like counterstrikes can hit it.  it does not remain "grounded" simply from making a melee attack.  the only thing that really "grounds" a flyer is when it guards or when it is incapacited (knockdown, slam and such)  having said that i do love the psylock lol

lots of interesting speculation here! I love reading it.  I wish I knew more than I did, us playtesters don't have a whole lot of information yet (at least I don't!) and what I do know i cant share but i love reading this stuff.  and who knows it might give us designers/playtesters some ideas!

yes you can push creatures into the outside walls of the arena to bash them for a 3 die attack.  this includes flying creatures that would normally are pushed over the walls.

any time a creature is pushed into a wall with passage blocked it takes the 3 die hit.  with force push since you can choose the direction of the push you can always choose to push the creature into the wall and cause the 3 die bash damage.  and since it isn't a passage attacks wall, you do not have to pay the extra mana to cast it.

Rules Discussion / Re: Zone Exclusive
« on: March 15, 2013, 10:38:16 PM »
yes you can cast other conjurations as long as only one zone exclusive conjuration is in each zone.  this makes it possible to cast a poison gas cloud over someone else's spawnpoint to damage the creatures spawned during the upkeep and such tricks like that.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Earth Wizard
« on: March 07, 2013, 07:42:31 PM »
I actually playtested many of these cards with an earth wizard, and yes sniper shot plus hurl boulder is great.

my build focused more with 6 mana crystals gate to voltari and 3 earth elementals, 3 iron golems, along with some arcane creatures with the gate, hydra, moonglow fairy and blue gremlin.  (2 very under rated cards IMO) the blue gremlin can get past walls and hindering with his teleport and the moonglows are to take out any ethereal annoyances.

the idea was to get out 2 or 3 earth elementals, or failing that 1 earth elemental and 2 iron golems.  it was almost a swarm deck with large creatures, with a channeling between 13-15 the earth elementals got out faster than you would think.

I did also include the quickstand etc and a few other things.....

Spells / Re: Malacoda text correction?
« on: February 28, 2013, 03:53:12 AM »
point taken, I have an original printing one and it says other creatures, so the correct wording should be all creatures, with it being poison damage and he is immune to poison.  and also immune to the idol which is also poison damage

I could be wrong but I read somewhere that his ability was now considered poison damage (as well as idol of pestilence) to make him immune to his own damage (and the idol)  so the new correct wording would be the all creatures, but that his damage was poison.

I could be wrong as its late.

Player Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Opposite sex mage cards

this would actually be a pretty cool idea.  they can save the differing abilities for different styles of mage (which would each have a male/female card as well)   great idea!  i hope AW listens to this idea
