Title: Agony on Hydra
Post by: Taruslar on March 25, 2013, 07:35:08 PM
Hi everybody,

does Agony affect all 3attacks of the hydra triplestrike, so only one die is rolled per attack?

Yep, it affects all three attacks. Agony on a hydra is brutal.

Glad to see this question asked, was a little stumped by this myself.
Can someone please explain to me why the likes of Bears Strength only adds to the first attack of the Hydras triplestrike, but Agony affects all three?  Seems a little inconsistant.

It seems the game is slightly tipped towards the defensive.

Aegis, Agony, Rhino Hide affect every strike

Bear Strength, Power Strike, Hand of Bim-Shalla only affect the 1st strike of each separate attack.

It has to do with how Agony is worded. It says "roll 2 less attack dice for each non-spell attack made by this creature." If it said -2 attack, it would only apply to the first attack and not additional strikes.

It comes down to defense/armor being static, and additional strikes being additional.

This particular ruling gives a nod to a defensive ability over its offensive counterparts, however on the whole I do not think the game favors a defensive strategy over an offensive one. If it favors anything I would say it favors the flexible strategy of being capable of both.
