Rules Discussion / Re: Enchanment Reveal
« on: October 26, 2012, 02:43:55 PM »
You can reveal an enchantment at any time, as long as you are not interrupting an step. Such as the 3 steps when casting a spell, or the multiple steps when attacking. Going in between steps is fine. An example was posted in a different thread about the enchantment that made it cost mana to move. So the target of the enchantment declared he was acting by turning over his action counter, but before he made his move action, so in between steps, the controller of the enchantment could reveal it to penalize the forthcoming movement.

For quick cast actions, this would be the same. There is a space between declaring the use of the action (flipping over the tile) and the beginning of the spell casting steps that you could use to reveal your enchantment.

Q1:
Dissolve has target: Mage in it's casting line (top of the card), so Nullify can counter Dissolve

Q2:
You counter when target is chosen - so before revealing enchantment.
Revealing enchantment is separate event from casting it (even if you decide to reveal it as soon as you cast it) - it does not follow spellcasting steps and can not be countered.

Another gold star :)
[strike]On a side note when you cast Dissolve you only target the mage you never target the equip. Choose an equip that is attached to target mage, this is important because you should not tell the other player what you are going to Dissolve until after it has started to resolve. That being said if they only have 1 equip it is a pretty easy guess.[/strike]

[strike]So if you only tell the other person what equipment is being targeted, you still have to pay the mana cost of what you want to target at the beginning, which should narrow it down a lot as to what you are targeting. I have a question with how Dissolve works in combination with Reverse Magic. [/strike]

I have one piece of equipment, Mage Wand, and a hidden Reverse Magic on me.

My opponent casts Dissolve. He pays 5 mana but doesn't tell me what he wants to destroy.

During the counter spell step, I reveal Reverse Magic and take control of dissolve.

I now resolve the spell and destroy one of his equipments worth 5 mana or less, or can I up the mana cost to destroy that damn Hellfire Lash?

Rules Discussion / Re: Confirmng armor affect each strike of triplstrike?

Hi Spyre,

Yes, the armor is subtracted from each attack.  Each strike after the first is considered a separate attack, although each only follows a subset of steps: Avoid Attack, Roll Dice, and Apply Damage & Effects (page 29).

The Apply Damage & Effects steps occurs for all 3 attacks, and in that Step you always subtract armor.

Thanks!

Oh crap, the avoid attack is for all three attacks? So if my hydra is attacking the ferret, just because I hit with the first attack, doesn't mean that the other two do? Inverse of that, just because I miss with the first attack, doesn't mean that my other two automatically miss?

Even further, if I was a Warlock with a demon with doublestrike as my blood fiend, if the first attack is completely avoided, does the second attack get any bonus dice (Melee +X and Bloodthirsty +X) and would my Warlock heal if the second attack hit?

Hi guys,

Actually the Cleric would not get +1 to heal with.  The healing is an ABILITY, not an ATTACK.  Here is an easy way to tell if something counts as an attack or not:

An attack always has the gray metallic bladed "attack bar" behind it.  An ABILITY has a brass bar behind it.  In a few rare cases we may have attacks which do not have the"attack bar", but there is text which specifically says "this counts as an attack".

Thanks for the response! I hadn't noticed the distinction before between attacks and abilities. So, certain things only trigger when attacked or on the first attack, I have a few more questions. The damage barrier effect isn't an attack, so would not increase rage, right?

Melee +X only counts for the first attack in something like doublestrike, triplestrike, and sweep. If I'm sweeping in a zone that has one guarding creature, my first attack has to go to that creature, does that mean my bonus dice have to go to that attack as well?

[strike]What about the card (I don't have it right in front of me to get the name right) Battle Fury that gives another attack. Would this extra attack get the Melee +X dice and the healing from vampiric?[/strike] Just saw this explained in a different thread. Yes, Battle Fury is stupidly awesome powerful and you get all bonuses for both attacks.

Rules Discussion / Asyran Cleric and Ranged +x
« on: October 19, 2012, 05:39:41 PM »
A friend brought up an interesting question today about the Asyran Cleric. He was originally under the impression that "Ranged +x" would give his melee creature range to attack with. When I corrected him and said it added a die to ranged attack rolls, he retargeted the spell to his Cleric. The Cleric's heal is just a ranged attack that heals, so it does get the bonus die, correct?
