I was wondering if you guys may know which Mage Wars artists will be at GenCon 2012. I'm pretty sure Jason Engle will be there.
Any info you would have regarding this would be great!

The Boardgamegeek artist listing for Mage Wars does not include John Guytan (he may be staff at Mage Wars, but he should get some credit for his artwork :cheer: ). Assuming that the rest of the listed artists is complete, there is just one more artist that you missed. Jim Pavelec is listed as an attending artist for Gencon this year. He did "Explode" and "Fireball" that I am aware of.
-
I grabbed the file on the Gencon site. I thought Jim was going to attend but he was not listed in the file I got. If anybody else was missed please add them I can update the data later.
For those who want to know who John Guytan (http://magewars.com/jsite/forum/general-discussion/214-meet-the-mods) is.
Added Jim Pavelec cards to the list.

All those come in the base game Yes? And will the Artists be up for Signing there cards?
-
Yes all the cards listed are from the base game. BTW the spell tome is all cards that appear in the main set just extra copies of them.
I have been playing TCG for over 16 years and have never had a problem with artists signing cards. Just ask nicely " Something like do you mind signing these cards. I also recomend keeping you pile small like 1-12 cards each time you ask.
-
Awesome and will there be any rules against play/using Signed cards during event play
-
I see no issue with it but that should go to the rules team.
I know in all the games I have played it only was a problem if the sig made the card unreadable.
-
Can someone from the rules team please confirm.
Thanks!
-
I am putting a request on the mod forums maybe it was just missed because they are all busy with last min Gencon prepping.

I will definitely sign my cards! I've already signed a bunch for the Mage Wars staff. I'll be working in the demo area the whole show, so bring them by! :)
I'm not sure about the question of using signed cards. For this GenCon, my guess is that we will be handing out spellbooks for people to use, since the game is not out yet. This is how we've been doing the tournaments up to this point. So, you would most likely have to use the demo books.
In future tournaments, I don't think it would be a problem, but I'll ask around.
-
Thank you in advance for looking into this.
-
Having artist signatures won't be a problem, so long as the card is still legible and easily identifiable.
-
I'd suspect that MW would follow the usual, "modifcations are fine as long as the card is identifiable"
Its the same basic premise that games with foreign printing uses, you need to make sure the art is recognizeable to any judge present so he can explain what may be obscured.
-
Ok, I got word from Bryan.
It is officially OK to have signed cards in a tournament.
ALSO, those of you that are attending GenCon 2012, the tournaments will be Apprentice Mode pre-built spellbooks this time around. :)
-
Yes, as many have suspected, using signed cards is 100% acceptable!!
Artists should sign the cards so that they remain legible if it can be helped.
If for some reason the card is not legible, it should at least be identifiable so that its function can be confirmed through an external source such as a judge/moderator or through reference to an identical card.
-
Thanks for the fast reply all. Just as I suspected.
-
Now I'm REALLY bummed about not going to GenCon. I love having signed cards for my games. Granted I've only had 2 cards signed prior but with all those artists in one place...
-
I have 100s of signed and altered cards from other games. I want to be one of the first to get my Mage Wars play sets altered and signed. If I am lucky I I will be able to get a blank cover on a binder to get it custom altered in a Mage Wars style.
I started a new thread to talked about your gencon 2012 Mage Wars experence here (http://magewars.com/jsite/forum/general-discussion/559-gencon-2012).
