Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Warlock Swarm Deck
« on: November 29, 2013, 10:03:32 AM »
if you have Druid v Necromancer, Zombie Crawlers and Skeletal minions are cheap and might be worth considering for a swarm. I also like the ravenous ghoul because he is fast and hits hard. (I havent actually played with any of them yet.)

Rules Discussion / Re: Taunting a Cleric of Asyra
« on: November 25, 2013, 06:15:20 PM »
The Cleric's Heal is an ability and not an attack, so he wouldn't be forced to Heal Thorg.

A taunted Cleric would be forced to move in and melee attack him with the melee attack. (and then probably get killed when Thorg hits him with a 5 dice counterattack from his Guard Marker)

Ah, that's right. If the ability has a gold bar behind it its an ability vs. a grey bar that is an attack. I forgot about that.

Now, just to follow through on part of my confusion that still remains, I'm wondering how the situation above would be different if the taunted creature had both a melee and ranged attack. Would the owner of the taunted creature make the choice between "move + melee" or "stay put + ranged"?

Rules Discussion / Taunting a Cleric of Asyra

Quick rules question that came up last night. Sorry if its been hashed out before.

Thorg taunts a Cleric of Asyra who is 1 square away. Does the Cleric move and hit Thorg with a melee, or stay where he is and attack Thorg at range (thereby healing him)? If there's a choice, who decides? Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Re: Mage Wars: intriguing, but also hard to get into

diceman,
If you stick to the apprentice books, you'll be an expert after the first game. Just keep the codex handy and don't worry if you miss a rule or two. Also, if interested get onto Octgn & I'll help you get up to speed. There's no substitute for a genuine face-to-face match, but I'm ugly and I smell bad so its best I keep my distance.

General Questions / Mangler Caltrops question
« on: March 02, 2013, 03:01:52 PM »
Hi all,

I dropped Mangler Caltrops in a game yesterday & a wording question arose.

The card reads "Caltops attacks each non-flying creature after it enters the zone."

Does the "it" refer to the caltrops or the creature that enters the square? Grammatically, the former makes sense but thematically the latter does.

Either way, has anybody found a devious combo with this card yet? It seems fun.

I played mine last night.

The new mages are awesome.

In the first game my buddy played the warlord, and I played the forcemaster.

I thought he was going to crush me with his obscene lineup of creatures, but I closed with him quickly and kept sucking him in with the FM's "force pull" ability, where I had an invisible stalker waiting. The FM's sword doublestrikes for 8 dice!  He didn't last.

The second game was EPIC. He began with a solid lineup of outposts that spit out a motly rabble of goblins. My Warlord was on the ropes the entire game but through careful use of fire walls was able to stymie his assault for a very close victory. There were so many twists and turns in this game that it was tense the entire time.

Such a good game.

League / Tournament Play / Columbia, MD casual games?
« on: January 21, 2013, 03:31:57 PM »
Looking to find casual adult-age gamers in the Columbia, MD area. I'm a noob & prefer chill/casual gaming. It would be best to play somewhere like "The Family Game Store" at Savage. If you don't own the game we can use mine.
