Cheap in school and Corrosive Orchid can be cast from the tree.

So why run a DoT strategy as a Druid?

Two weeks ago i came back from Gen-Con. Unfortunately one of my suitcases is still missing.

So i lost my computer = no OTCGN and no OTCGN spellbooks.

I lost 10 spellbooks (cards and design) and only had 1 left, quite a bit of mage wars card and some awesome Legion card holders and some really cool card sleeves.  Not to mention 5 copies of PvS.

To get over that, im starting a live spellbook building project and i would like some help with that :)

I wanna build 5 spellbooks per mage, that people can use and borrow for Viking-Con.
The cons main event is Saturday 15 Oktober, so the 70 Spellbooks has to be ready no later than Friday 14. Oktober.

All books must be designed to kill the opponent mage in 75 min (or less)

They may contain all mage wars cards, but not to many promos - as we only use the promos we actually have.

Existing old wellknow spellbooks are meant to be updated with all the new stuff.

Some of the books has to be used by players that have never tried magewars before.

Will try to cut down on Staples and try to find alternatives, just to avoid to many proxies.

*lots of Forcemaster seems to have way to much mana midgame/late i liked to see a build that uses that mana late, even if all the builds in here has to try and kill the opponent mage in 75 min or less.

There is currently a tournament going on for the german community it has the special rules that every mage may only be used during the tournament. 16 players compete we have four groups of four players with the first two advancing. And then a double elimination. Discussions are mainly in german but the spellbooks are often posted as the english version, and you can find some videos of Schwenkgott recording it. More info at:

cliff notes: Dwarf is OP

This Dwarf is tuff. Most spellbooks will not have an easy time vs this guy.

I have only played this a few times, but i have faced it (different versions but still very tuff)

Seems to play a lot like Charmynas Tanky Wizards.

A few points:

To slow for a 75 min tourney game

"You cant kill me" spellbooks might lack sufficient offence to actually kill the other mage.

DoT strategies should work well vs him.

Die Idee ist es einige recht starke Kreaturen zu bekommen und versuchen mit diesen Veteranen Marker zu bekommen. Sind zwar viele aus anderen Schulen dabei aber schon gut. Damit ich keine Probleme mit den Aktionen habe, spiele ich es mit Schmiede."

Easy enough:
1. Get some decent dudes out, and try to get some Veterans tokens.
2. Use the "Blacksmith" to save actions.

I loved this book :)

To questions:

Attack spells seems on the low side? Even in non-Warlord books i often run 2 Hurl Boulders - here in school and almost no other range (2+), no bow etc. 
So why so few in-school attack spells?

Creatures:
[mwcard=MWSTX1CKC01]Bridge Troll[/mwcard] - gotta love em. If opponent can't kill them or stop their regen their just awesome. Never tried to add a third, but that might be a good idea?

[mwcard=FWC11]Orc Butcher[/mwcard] pretty solid guys - unfortunately they don´t last forever.

[mwcard=MW1C06]Brogan Bloodstone[/mwcard] Well Brogan is Brogan, but 8 spellbookpoints?
Besides hes 15 mana and he dies to quick for my liking. 4 dice (5 w HoB) makes it hard for him to kill something and gain the desired Veteran token. We can buff him, with lets say Bear Strenght - but thats make focussing him down more tempting and better. I did end up changing him for another Golem + extra helm and charge and then either command spells or a Hurl Boulder. It just gave some other problems..

[mwcard=FWC09]Iron Golem[/mwcard] another really nice creature - star vs Zombies in trouble vs Priestess with Staff of Asyra/ToL - and they are a lot of work. Your opponent are likely to spend a lot of time and ressourses as well trying to avoid him. 1 might be just right?

[mwcard=MWSTX2FFC06]Goblin Alchemist[/mwcard] i instant replaced him with [mwcard=FWC06]Goblin Slinger[/mwcard] and never looked back. Was very happy with the slinger and the range 2 and had forgot all about him not being part of the build. In hindsight Goblin Alchemist could have been very usefull to corrode enemy armor, even the burn/rot might have helped. Still not easy to keep him alive?

Starts no later than 19:30 (might start at 18:30)

Pre-gaming from 14:30

Assume that all cards are legal. (Balista is Dan only!) Assume you can borrow what you don't have. German and English cards allowed (if you have Polish or French then ok)

A few special rules regarding scoring, shouldn't really concern anyone.
(Kill is 4 point - modified is 3-1 or 2 1/2 - 1 1/2 depending on rem life dif. Tiebreakers almost strength of schedule)

Prizes will be 1 PvS spilt among the players and some promo cards and other awesome Arcane Wonders stuff!

1. Paladin starting spellbook + Paladin Only cards + Paladin tokens.
2. Siren starting spellbook + Siren Only cards + Siren tokens.
3. Dragon + 4 Dragonclaw Wolverines.
4. Sherean Leviathan + 4 Screaming Zombies.
5. Warlord Booster pack.
6. Holy Mage Booster pack.
7. Doggybag 1 + 4 Victorian Griffins.
8. Doggybag 2 + 4 Angel Hunters.

Winner can choose between 1-8, then #2 gets to pick. Counting on 5-8 players right now.

General Copenhagen info:

First Saturday we play at Faraos Cigarer from 10:30-15:30

Major event Viking-Con - Play Mage Wars from Friday night until Sunday evening! Week 42. Same time as Essen.
PvS there as well :)

Viking-Con is actually a lot bigger than I thought around 800 people or so, last year we expected 4 people in the tourney and got 16. 16 is a great number hope to reach that again.

Typical opening is Stay in the corner + Meditation Amulet and then Graveyard (final QC)

normal placement of the Graveyard would be 1 away in the zone that can't be blocked by one wall.

Then pump out creatures and meditate. Try to do something useful with my QC.
Pretty easy to play.

One of the thing id liked the most was the "extra" spell I got to prepare each round. Typical a curse if an enemy creature should get onto range.

League / Tournament Play / Last day gaming at Gen-Con

If someone wants to help me reach my 50 games goal I will be around all day today at the last day at Gen-Con.

Hall E around were we played the tourney. Ill be building Siren and Paladin etc. so you should be able to locate me.

Just a side note: I have 1 full day in New York - and why not play some more Mage Wars?

So if you want to play or just see Paladin vs Siren or something - tell me when and where.

Are there any Mage Wars players in New York anyway?

Yesterday I had a game vs. Zot that showed we didn't play magestun in the same way.

So what kind of actions can a stunned mage take with his full action marker?

Id did not have any impact on the game (I would loss regardless), but there's bound to be a couple of Air Wizards at Gen-Con so I would love to know.

General Discussion / Can you help me with some minor OCTGN troubles?

Hi!

Its good to be back on OCTGN - hope to meet you in the arenas there :)

Anyway I have 2 minor things that troubles me at the moment:

1) Game log - nothing happens when I click this?
Id like a closer look on some of those games :)

2) No plugins in the Deck Editor - so I can´t validate my decks or use the various import features. I just installed OCTGN on another computer and its the same thing.

Just had my first go as a Tourney Director :o

[mwcard=MW1J23]Temple of Asyra[/mwcard] doesn't state that the praying clerics, has to be in the same zone as Temple of Asyra (or even have line of sight to it)

So can Clerics put mana on Temple of Asyra without being in the Temples zone?

So I just played my first Domination Battlegrounds  game yesterday  ;D

We played on "No Man´s Land"

Had to put a spellbook together, and I heard that creatures and creature actions was very important so I tried one of my old favorite mages - Straywood Beastmaster.

My Basic plan was to move 1 & cast a Feral Bobcat Pet, then next round move in hit a Slaack with my Beastmaster (4dice) then kill it with the Bobcat (6 dice).

Cast Galaxxus and hopefully outrace my opponent.

Use Wall of Thorns with Jet Stream, Force Push and 12 level one animals.

Some of the new hot Domination stuff and a lot more Dispells than I normally pack.

4 Tanglevine to get rid of big guards.

I can´t use the spellbook builder to post the book (cause I can´t tell it I got Domination/Arena) but I think I learnt something.

1) Don´t build something that would be good long game - because this will be over quick
2) Build a more versatile spellbook - consider even cards way out of school.

Notes:
I used the Wall of Thorns/Force Pushes to get his mage away from the action, nearly killing him was just an added bonus/treat.
He played an early Thornlasher which fell into a spiked pit and took 6 damage, which allowed me to kill it the same round.
Windstorm was used to kill Felella, which already had taken 2 damage.
Teleport was used to remove an enchanted Vine snapper from the active Orb Zone.
My Bridge Troll didn't do much, because he used V´Tar Force Sentry effectively against it.


I think you should play even faster, trying to get an Orb activated at turn 2

something like:
(19)  move 1 - Hurl Boulder -8- at Sslak
         Bobcat Pet -7-

(13) melee with Bobcat
       turn on Orb with BM
       Galaxxus -8-

Come to Copenhagen Denmark, October 10 (Saturday) and participate in our 2nd Mage Wars Arena tournament.

Format: Elimination

Schedule: 10-16 (10-04 if needed)

2. Prize: Cool Mage Wars Stuff

and more Cool Mage Wars Stuff to everybody else :)

Play Battleground Domination/Academy/Arena through the whole CON. We be available for demoing or as opponents.


Prize pool increased if we get more than ~12 players, but else we are going to use all the many generous prizes we got from Arcane Wonders as prizes at our regular monthly gaming day. First Saturday of every month, at our local game shop: Faraos Cigarer at central Copenhagen. 10:30-15:30.
