Strategy and Tactics / Re: Favorite way to deal with Beastmaster
« on: August 07, 2012, 06:10:33 PM »
Another thing I would recommend is using walls to restrict movement. Walls that have a lower Armor and or health often can be passed through but they attack anything that moves through them. While Stronger wall tend to cost more and are harder to get past because often these can not be passed through. I included a pic for Wall of Fire with some extra info added on.

So choose what walls you use against a rush wisely. I tend to like Wall of Thrones for anything at level 2 or higher. It it one of the cheapest walls and it still has good stats vs non-fire schools like the Beastmaster.  Another fun trick is to put Traps at the end of a route you block off with walls or use archers to create a kind of kill box. Funnel the force down and try to pick off the weaker targets.

So people know what it does.

World and Lore / Re: Voltari

Wizards apprently believe that the plane of Voltari is the source of magic and are able to open gates to this plane and summon strange creatures from it. What is actually known about this plane, has anyone from Etheria actually travelled there (and returned to tell the tale)?

As play-testers we only got a brief glimpse of the background story. For the world and the schools of magic. I can say that the story team has put in a lot of effort to try to flesh out this world. But it is one of the things that we as play-testers were ask not to give up any details on until the Arcane Wonders was ready to reveal them.

im sure there will be a call for male/female versions of all the mages.  since it seems the mage card on the board is mostly picture with the stats off to the side, it should not be too hard to come out with a pack that just has the opposite genders for all the mages.

Another thing we had talked about was possibly making a male and female for each class with slightly different abilities. Just because you learn the same school does not mean you did not focus and another aspect of its core teachings. I can honestly say we have seen about 8-10 powers that could possible be used from each of the schools. Like anything else they need to be looked at for flavor, and balance.

There will only be two Water spells in the initial release; Geyser and Dissolve.  We will definitely have a lot more of them in the future.

The main elements focused on in the Core Set are Fire and Air, due to the Warlock and the Wizard.  Never fear, we have LOTS of elemental spells just waiting to be integrated in future releases.

The first expansion, the Forcemaster and Warlord, will start filling out the Earth and Mind spells as well as other schools.

I am hoping that at some point Bryan will get us the Water / Frost spells he has been working on. He said he had a few just not ready for the play-testers yet.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: In-school only builds?
« on: August 07, 2012, 05:29:45 PM »
Each school has its own way of looking at the world and how that school approaches  combat. From a story stand point these arena fights have been going on for sometime now. So most schools see where they need to improve in tactics for the arena. That is not to say that that this could not be done once there are a few more sets out. Currently most schools may find it hard just to get to 120 points if you limit yourself to 1 or 2 schools.

I like the idea but it may take sometime to have enough options to do this.

General Discussion / Re: Average Game Time
« on: August 06, 2012, 08:19:12 PM »
Once player get used to build books and playing the game. My group finds the Average tourney style game takes about 50 minutes. I all depends on the play style of the people playing.

Alternative Play / Re: Thoughts on a Tournament setup?
« on: August 06, 2012, 08:13:01 PM »
You are correct the 120 points should be more than enough for meta you may need to include in your book. Currently we are looking at several ways to run events. I personally like Swiss style events because they allow even players who are not very good to get in a few games.

From the last version I saw of it the list was color coded but that was back in may. It may have change since then. But no version I remember seeing has has the school icons on it. This would make for a good upgrade to the file.

Plus I wanted to edit the pic since I cant post some of the spells I have been working on for Byran. I am bringing my notes to Gencon. I cant wait till people get to meet the Arch Mage.

Dispel - destroys enchantments
Dissolve - Destroys equipment
Block / Reverse Attack - Stops or sends back attacks

Nullify - Enchant that functions as counter magic

Minor Heal - Lowest level heal spell

Mana Crystal / Mana Flower - Mana boosting conjuration

2 copy of Geyser just to be safe.  - Attack that can put out fire.
Art only ---->

I would use 3 Seeking Dispel - Removes face down enchants (For example Cards like Hellfire trap that have an affect when turned face up)

General Discussion / Re: Card dividers

The card are the standard TCG size for a reference think MTG card size so you should have no problem putting the sleeve and card into your tome. This is what I plan on doing.

General Discussion / Re: What's your first mage going to be?
« on: August 06, 2012, 06:23:03 PM »
I have played them all and they are extremely customizable and versatile. Remember Just because your a priestess does not mean you can not set stuff on fire. Of the base 4 mages none of them is my favorite. I would most like make a Wizard book just because it can choose what elemental school he belongs to.

Player Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Official proxy cards
« on: August 06, 2012, 06:12:01 PM »
One thing we did during testing Was just make a check sheet with the number of copies listed for each card and as we played we just marked it off.  Once we got our 2nd kit of cards We often had 3-6 spell books ready to go at any given time. To tell you the truth 90% off our build never used over 4 copies of any given card.
