Malakai Priest Buddy Build
« on: July 09, 2015, 07:25:28 PM »
So I was playing a game with Coshade the other day and he had a pretty cool Priest book. I came up with a few ideas and decided to throw them into a book myself. Here's the first draft of it.

The idea is to Have the bridge troll guard to draw attacks while the Knight becomes the holy avenger and spreads righteous fury around. I haven't planned out as much of the early game with this one as I have with my other books, I'm still contemplating good openings. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to leave them.

Revision: I've added in reflex boots, Staff of Asyra, and Dawnbreaker Ring. Took out a few things like 2 copies of healing charm, leather boots, and one more thing I can't remember at the moment.

I think you should replace both the troll and the knight with the dawnbreaker's chosen card that hasn't been released yet. He could probably do both their jobs. Or you could just use an enchanted guardian angel.

I am Sailor Vulcan! Champion of justice and reason! And yes, I am already aware my uniform is considered flashy, unprofessional, and borderline sexually provocative for my species by most intelligent lifeforms. I did not choose this outfit. Shut up.

The reasoning behind the Troll is that the friendly creature has to take damage to trigger HA. So, ideally, something with high HP and low armor (and in this case, lots of regen) to take the damage. He also happens to be able to dish some pain out too.

dawnbreaker temple for me is mostly about rerolling defenses. you only have two defense spells in the book(knight and cobra). the cobra will get dispelled asap, and the knight is the holy avenger, so he should be tanky enough. So i'm not sure you are getting enough out of the temple. consider switching to reflex boots since they are harder to remove(but youd lose the leather boots).

I'd go guardian angel over troll, but thats personal preference. She doesnt need buffs and doesnt have to use her defense if you are trying to get hit. Yes, she has a smaller counterattack.

You don't have The Priest Weapon. Is he meleeing every turn without it?

Good point about the temple. At first glance it seemed like a good idea, but on second thought the reflex boots do look like a better investment.

And yes, I was planning on meleeing with the priest, though I just realized I also forgot to include the Dawnbreaker Ring for the extra die of attack. The reason for melee is for the double condition (burn and daze) potential. The two buddies can do the real damage.

I decided to add the staff of Asyra. Honestly, of the 4 mages I play the most, 3 of them are dark mages. I had totally forgotten it existed. Edits reflected in the OP

Hey Shark, glad I could help inspire you with the priest the other night. It was a pretty divine game. Holy cow did that Sardonyx do some crazy stuff :P

You have a teleport in your enchantment section :P

I like the direction your going with this build. It has a specific timing push where it is really strong. I was wondering why you only have 2 Bear strengths. I feel like you should run 3 and just buff your creatures to do max dmg.

I don't think you're going to use Sacred Ground since you are more of a mobile unit.

I know you don't have a lot of mana, or other temples, but I think a Temple of Light would be good for not only devouring jellies and necro builds, but just a general way to spend mana and get another chance to daze/stun.

Crown of Protection is really good with your Bridge Troll. Try and notice how much you use it during a game. I'm really trying to figure out how to use it effectively.

Personally, I find that either the Gray Angel or the Asyran Defender are the best Holy Avengers. The Gray Angel has a very solid statline, nothing exciting but certainly solid. The biggest advantage there, is that he flies. Your Holy Avenger doesn't get to trigger their awesome damage bonus if they're the one attacked, and flying makes this guy much tougher to attack. For the Asyran Defender, he's much cheaper to make your Holy Avenger, and even if he only gains the Life +5 from the exchange it makes him much tougher. Those are my personal thoughts.
