Player Feedback and Suggestions / Where is the Warlord's Horse????
« on: February 25, 2013, 10:18:16 PM »
He obviously has a trusty war steed as he has on spurs? Totally confused that it wasn't included after seeing the warlord's artwork. Was this just an oversight or was he just not supposed to have spurs?

You could have made it a piece of equipment that game him something like charge +3 but then reduced his non-charge melee by 3. I was really hoping for a horse with some of the armor that the warlord has and glowing green eyes.  Maybe a special card in the future hint hint hint wink wink wink!

Actually Arcanus that is not correct..

Now I want to see some flavor text saying....And then the young mage, having never been in Sortilege before, uttered the words,"Actually Arcanus that is not correct." From that day on, he spoke no more.    :silly:

Hah Hah!

@Arcanus, I hope that didn't come off to harsh. it was not meant that way. :)

Actually Arcanus that is not correct. Page 18 of the rulebook says

"Ranged attacks may target a wall if either of the adjacent zones is in range and LoS."

Since the adjacent zones are 2 and 3 away then you can choose the closer zone and attack with that.

General Discussion / Re: Best matchups using Apprentice spellbooks?
« on: February 25, 2013, 04:30:58 PM »
I have played a lot of starter games getting people started and if people are familiar with similar games I recommend the priestess and the warlock or the warlock and the beastmasker. I think the wizard is a great way to overwhelm a new user and using him against a new player will frustrate them a lot as the wizard has so many mana drain spells which make it difficult for a new player to plan effectively. One might argue they need to learn that their plans need to change but I think the wizard forces it a bit more than would be enjoyable.

One problem with the Warlock vs the BM is that the BM can just get pummeled by the warlock unless they BM plays the card that give him flame -2. I always recommend they play that and I will never destroy it in an intro game as I think the warlock into book is very overpowered. In my experience for starter books the warlock and the priestess are the most powerful but that is just me.

As there aren't started books for the two new wizards I haven't played them in a apprentice mode yet. and to be honest I think the forcemaster would be at a significant disadvantage if they did have a mode for her.

Rules Discussion / Re: Flying, LoS, and the definition of "Ignore"
« on: February 25, 2013, 01:58:23 PM »
Hi Jcox,

Walls do not block LoS to Flying creatures (Not sure the page in the Rulebook but it mentioned that everyone has LoS to flying creatures).

As you said flying creatures ignore walls. As they are ignoring the walls, the walls do not block the sight of a flying creature

Spells / Re: TangleVine Attacks

Since you can just teleport yourself right out if tanglevine, even to the same zone I see little reason to ever attack it just keep an extra teleport around as its a great spell anyway

Every Thursday I play at the Dallas games marathon in Plano from 6pm to about 2am.

Also I am working with at starting OP because there are lots of people interested. Once a months they have the bug event which is Friday Saturday and Sunday. It's great we just had one on the 15-17th.

Send me a private message if you want more info and want to be on my list for OP.

Also come by and if you haven't played I can run you through a intro game.

I am looking at renting out the space on the unused days just for mage wars. Anyone let me know of interested.

General Questions / Re: Lose Flying(by specific goal)
« on: February 22, 2013, 10:28:11 PM »
You can't simply declare a creature is non-flying (unless I am misunderstanding your comment). There isn't a reason you couldn't cast a spell on it that makes it non flying if your mage is on the destination side of the wall or if you are on the starting side of the wall make it a fast creature and then you would have the step to guard and make the creature non-flying as you mentioned or you could cast the enchantement on the creature and then reveal it when it is over the wall.

Any idea when retailers will actually copies so they can send out our preorders? I'm hoping to get mine in time for a Thursday playthrough.

Rules Discussion / Re: Tanglevine cast on mage multiple times

Thanks sIKE. Related question. If you teleport yourself out of Tanglevine is Tanglevine now worthless and should just be removed from the board?

Rules Discussion / Tanglevine cast on mage multiple times
« on: February 18, 2013, 08:21:21 PM »
Can Tanglevine be cast on a mage multiple times? I mean so the mage would be caught in 2 or more Tanglevines at the same time. For example a mage got me in Tanglevine in a great spot (for him not me) and then cast Tanglevine on me twice and then another time just to make sure I didn't have time to hack myself out. I don't see why this would be illegal as I see no restrictions on Tanglevine in this regard but I just wanted to check as it is really really hard to remove 24life (3xTanglevine ) just to get yourself free and seems pretty OP. I really wish Tanglevine had a role (fairly high) for a chance to get free.

Is there no way to order an updated rulebook with the starter pack and errata like for Tanglevine? I was in a game recently and we were under the impression you could push a mage out of Tanglevine but then found the rule correction saying Tanglevine gives the unmoveable traight. Frustrating as it was what won me the game and I hate winning when I shouldn't have.

@Facie,

I'm new to the game but love it so far but having trouble finding people to play with. I am in Richardson and would definitely meetup at Madness Games if they will let us play. Just let me know.
