The mentioned promo cards make me worried. What about people that have no access to organized play? I don't think there will be any in Hungary for example.

How long till you will make them available for everyone?

Post by: Klaxas on September 15, 2012, 12:42:13 AM
this also worries me.  i was under the impression they they wanted everyone to have access to all the cards...

Promo cards don't worry me at all.  This game is so well written and playtested that I can't imigine them allowing promos to ruin the game.
Title: Re: Organized Play
Post by: Scarob on September 15, 2012, 04:57:01 AM
i seem to remember reading somewhere that promo cards would be special versions of existing cards from the starter box, just different artwork is about it i suppose, however the game play of the card wont change
Title: Re: Organized Play

that would be cool.

This is correct.

I'd much rather have new cards... or maybe pre-releases from the next set?  Either way...Im in !!  : )
Title: Re: Organized Play
Post by: Klaxas on September 16, 2012, 12:25:35 PM
i personaly am glad they are not giving out unique promo cards.  i believe thier philosophy of everyone having access to all the cards is a good one.  although previews of the next set would be a cool idea, if it was tested up already and everything.
Title: Re: Organized Play
Post by: Scarob on September 16, 2012, 02:42:29 PM
it would be interesting if the promo cards were of soon to come spells, however the new set that the promo card comes in would have to be fully tested so as to balance the promo out with the new stuff....could have a super special style promo and have it so that there's a competition for mage wars art work and the mage wars team could choose the best to made into the promo...maybe...???

p.s. I'm pants at awesome art, so there's no hope for me there XD

Thanks for all the feedback! Here is the current plan:

The promo cards released will be new cards, however they will be released in the future to the general populace. Occasionally we will also do alternate art cards as well for prizes, participation, etc.

In this way the cards you win are available only to those who play, for a certain amount of time, as they eventually come out in future sets.

I could call the new cards preview cards not unique cards. When I last talked to the MW team these were planned to be no further than one expansion away. That is to say everybody will be able to get them when the set comes out.

Title: Re: Organized Play

Allright, this is acceptable. I'm not happy, as there will be guaranteed no official play in my country so I'll have to get them later. As long as they are part of the expansions this might not be that much of a problem.

So is there any new information you can give on the OP ?
Will there be a cost for the kits? I am not opposed to paying a nominal fee, just trying to appease my anticipation with some news.

Right now we're looking at a nominal fee for the kits, just to help offset the cost of a quality OP Kit. I'll have an update on what the exact cost will be sometime here in the next week, week and a half!

Is there any possibility of getting a list of stores that is participating. I have only not so local gaming stores for me as most are at least 1 hour away.

We don't currently have a list of participating stores - but as soon as we do, we'll work to try and find a solution to get that information to you guys.

Still looking for a time frame on when op is going to start. I am itching to get playing this game and am hoping op will get people in my area who have bought the game to come out and play. Since my posts looking for players on multiple websites have not been responded to. I even bought my friend who was into mtg a copy of this game.

We are working furiously to get OP out to you guys by November. If you're a retailer, go ahead and let your distributor know that you're interested in getting our OP kit. If you're a player, be sure to let your retailer know that you're interested in the kit as well. This helps them gauge interest for how many copies they should order, they pass that information along to us, and then we can go to print.

We're sending information out to our retailers today!

Any word on when stores are supposed to be getting their kits?  My LGS hasn't gotten one yet.

Also are there judges for the op? Or maybe a head person in charge of organizing and running it?

Did you mean they were being shipped to AW?

Who is your distributor, if you don't mind me asking? Also, if you want to e-mail me at seanmccoy@arcanewonders.com I can help you out further.

Organized play kit showed up today, looks very nice.

So, since there are suppose to be weekly scenarios or stories,
and this is week 2 of December, do we try to make up a week,
or are the kits not going to arrive before the first week of the month?

I am fine with doing Dec. week 4 in the first week of Jan., I was just
wondering if there was any official word.
Title: Re: Organized Play

Is the weekly content going to be available online?
Title: Re: Organized Play
Post by: SeanDeCoy on December 12, 2012, 01:24:48 PM
We'll be releasing the story online as it comes out in stores. This kit is going to be a little weird timing wise because of the holidays and our delays from the printers. You do not need to make up a week. I'll get back to you guys on officially when the next pack will be coming out.
Title: Re: Organized Play
Post by: warpigdave on January 05, 2013, 06:40:16 AM
Should the op kits be in stores yet? As my FLGS doesn't have it. Although when I asked them about they kinda turned to one another and gruntly commented "that's another one we have to pay for". So I'm not sure if they are even going to or not.

Also is there a list of stores doing op?
Title: Re: Organized Play
Post by: ABGames on January 05, 2013, 01:00:55 PM
The league kits have been out for a couple weeks now.

From your comment, I am guessing they just decided
they didn't want to get it.

If you have a couple regular players that want the kit,
I would suggest chipping together and prepaying them to order the kit.

Does the next kit have 3 different promo cards?

I don't know anyone else in my area to play with.  Too bad, I had high hopes for this game and was hoping op would draw players that purchased the game to get together and play.  when it was first released the store sold like 10 copies.

Post by: ABGames on January 05, 2013, 08:33:56 PM
So, the players are out there.

Talk to the owner, offer to run league for him.

If you give the owner money to buy the league
kit and people show up to play, they will
probably buy the next one.

Don't give up, the game is worth it.

Will the OP Kits be released monthly?  When is the next one set to hit stores?
Title: Re: Organized Play
Post by: ABGames on January 06, 2013, 10:28:04 AM
They said that was the plan, but they haven't said that the Jan. kit has even been sent
to the distributors, so it may be awhile before they hit the monthly goal.
Title: Re: Organized Play

Is there a formal or informal list of stores that are participating so that people on here can get on board at those stores.
Title: Re: Organized Play
Post by: ABGames on January 12, 2013, 09:25:15 PM
There is no formal list.  A formal list will probably be difficult,
since the OP kits are bought from distributors and not direct.
Title: Re: Organized Play
Post by: paradox22 on January 15, 2013, 01:05:17 AM
Is the holiday organized play kit still avaliable to retailers?  I'd like my retailer to order a 2nd one to tide over our op group until Arcane Wonders announces the next one.  Im betting there won't be a new one for Feburary.  I figured we could just play through the 1st one a 2nd time.
Title: Re: Organized Play
Post by: SeanDeCoy on January 28, 2013, 10:21:32 AM
I would contact your retailer and ask them to order another one through their distributor. On my end I'll check to see if we have any left over in our fulfillment center.

I got interested in Mage Wars a few weeks ago and have only played twice.

Competition is very important to me. I love the game, but OP is what will keep me around. I'm curious on what big tournaments are upcoming or at least when we'll be informed about them. By big tournaments I mean ones worth traveling for that I could make my money back. In the recent Unplugged interview, a nationals was mentioned.

How would you recommend a player go about convincing their LGS to host some OP?  I attended the Pittsburgh demo (played with Enrico from Play Unplugged, met Pat, lots of fun!)  and with how well that went and how much I enjoy the game, I really want to see MW prosper like it deserves to (or at least do what I can as a player to help towards that end).  Should I gather some friends and talk to the store owner about picking a particular weekday to host OP?  Basically, I just want to know the best way to approach my LGS so the owner knows the interest in MW OP is there so that he supports us as soon as possible.  I'm currently learning how to host demos, so I figure this info will help with that too.

Post by: Sarkath on March 11, 2013, 07:19:51 AM
Just keep on the owner about it. I have about a dozen demos under my belt now and am probably getting the 2nd OP kit. I am the only one that owns the game in the Greensburg area that plays at my FLGS, so people will be using my starter spellbooks. (Kind of the only reason I haven't done much customizing, althoughI have two sets of Forcemaster things now. Thanks Patrick!)

Hey guys, I just got my OP Kit in, and I was wondering about the timetable for everything.  Our store is going to be expanding it's hours on April 20th and I was planning on doing Mage Wars at that available time from that point forward. Is there a date limit on the submission of results or anything that would interfere with that?

OP Kit 3 is out now - I already have 4 but I got in direct from AW. I did not see if alliance had it yet.

In large events the only cards that a legal are from sets that are for sale publicly. For example CoK was not for sale outside of Origins so it was not legal for tourney play. As far as at a local level the TO and judge should choose if promos are legal for play. At my local shops I allow all promos.
