Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Angelic Preistess Build
« on: May 19, 2014, 01:39:15 PM »
At the risk of derailing this thread, Resurrection is another one of my "could have been good" crap cards.  It's way too expensive in terms of spellbook points and casting cost for what it brings to a book.  A better choice would have been to add "Epic" and remove "...plus its creature level" to the casting cost.  As it is, it is a junk card that should never be used.

*stomps off grumbling curmudgeonly*

Edit:  Modified my post to make it more clear. ; )

--On topic, I would agree that there are too many mana generation cards in there.  I would also recommend adding in a Healing Charm or two; they have the advantage of being usable *in response* to your creature taking enough damage to kill it, with the way enchantments work.  I would also add a second Guardian Angel.

Actually, it's worth noting that Piercing +X doesn't have the same limitations as Melee +X and Ranged +X.  So, would the Piercing +2 apply to each damage roll he makes, then?  (I was going to just say it would, but then I realized it isn't quite so crystal clear...)

Also, I'm not sure where to put this, but in looking this factoid up, I noticed that on Page 6 of the Rules Supplement Codex, under the heading "OR" Attacks, it says "...Ludwig Boltstorm's...attack can have either the Sweeping trait or..."  Should be Triplestrike instead of Sweeping, correct?

Not sure when I'd use it. I've already removed my cloak of obscurity from my Necro book since I never cast it; not even once. Not sure who this card is supposed to be for.
Maybe when you are getting blasted by Fireball attached to a Wizards tower?
Wizard Tower is permanent, this only lasts three rounds--including the round you cast it.  And it doesn't block the Tower, it only reduces the range, and only of certain attack spells--usually the highest-casting ones, whereas the Tower is usually used in my experience to repeat-cast Level 1 (Range 0-1) spells.

I like a number of the cards in this set, and we'll see if this one sees play, but my initial reaction to this card: meh.

Edit: Oh hey look, 100 posts!  Full mage! : )

It's a great community here; generally mature and respectful.  I sometimes think the moderator(s?) might be a little bored; maybe we should stir things up a bit!

Togorah is not slow.

Gah!  Teaches me not to type when I'm already halfway in bed thinking "sweet, sweet sleep..." ; )

Also, since Togorath is Slow, he would start out Stunned when Raised.  (In case you missed that.)  He also couldn't regenerate, and takes six damage, so he likely wouldn't last all that long.  There are much better creatures to Raise.

He is, all around, just a bad card.

I've had some luck with it with the Priestess as well (Temple + Forge).

I'm not sure if it's where you were going with this, but the days of the frothing "MEDALLION SUXXORS" posts (to which camp I used to belong : ) are long gone, I think.

Alternative Play / Re: Mage Wars v1.5.0 for OCTGN is ready for play

Ah, fair enough then.  I thought I would check, in case there were some option to toggle the display back to the way it was before (or to easily add it in).  Thanks again!

Love all the work you've been doing with Mage Wars on OCTGN, thanks sIKE!

One question/request though: a while back the card list changed, so that it no longer displayed one line per card.  Now, most cards take up multiple lines on the list, so that there are large 'gaps' between cards.  (Example: The Warlord card takes up four lines, due apparently to the MageAbilities section, which has been broken up into four segments.)  --This is in the card search section of course, not the deck list on the left.

This is actually a significant step backward for me, in terms of usefulness.  I don't read the text on the card lists -at all-; I just d-click them to put them into decks.  If I need to know what a card does, I click on it and read the card image, not the lines of text.  Before this change, I could see a list of around fifty+ cards on one screen, now I can only see 12 - 20 most of the time.  Is there a way to 'condense' the card listing, so that they are displayed again with one line = one card?  And if not, could we have a way to toggle that option (assuming it's reasonably easy to implement)?

Thanks again!

Also, anything that benefits swarm-style builds over few-big/solo builds is only to the good, in the current meta.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Re: Regarding card binder sleeves
« on: March 24, 2014, 11:43:08 PM »
Are you talking about sleeves for cards that you will be putting into standard Ultra Pro card pages?
http://www.ultrapro.com/product_info.php?products_id=1302

If so, then (rather surprisingly) the Ultra Pro card sleeves do not work very well for that.  What you want to use instead are Mayday Games brand sleeves, which fit those pages perfectly:
http://maydaygames.com/card-sleeves-63-5-88-mm-100-pack.html
or
http://maydaygames.com/premium-card-sleeves-50-pack-63-5-mm-88-mm.html

However, if you want to put sleeves on cards that you are then putting into the standard Mage Wars spellbooks, then the Ultra Pro card sleeves will work just fine for that (and arguably, better than Mayday Games sleeves).

Just to double-check: you do know that--as conjurations--two Seedling Pods can't occupy the same zone at the same time, right?

Not only that, but when it's healed--such as from a revealed Charm--one of the Rage tokens is removed.

It really is a terrible mechanic, as currently designed.
