This is good information.  My problem with banking actions has been that my opponent will often be in my face before I feel like I have enough actions banked.

I'll let someone else do the numbers on this one but an attack rolling a low number of dice definitely benefits more on average from this ability than one rolling a high number because the standard deviation goes down as you add more dice.

Remember that my experience is all from table top games and may not apply exactly,  but I find that metas evolve pretty quickly.  The first stage (X beats Y so everyone stops using Y) happens almost instantaneously.  Most people will take Y out of their builds as soon as X is released because they know what's coming. The rest will follow within a couple of weeks.  The next stage (everyone stops playing X because no one uses Y anymore) can take a few months to a year,  but I bet in Mage Wars it happens pretty fast compared to a miniatures game because you can play a lot of games in a relatively short period and because there's a lot of competition for book space.

Quote
There was an intrinsic dichotomy in the meta-assumption used here:
(a) I am relying on a low armour meta on OCTGN because of Corrode
(b) I am perfectly safe playing High Armour with no Corrode removal
That crux is what I initially found to be a flawed premise in the build.

I don't think this is an unusual dichotomy,  it's just how metas work. X beats Y, so everyone stops using Y.  Eventually,  everyone stops bringing X because it mostly just counters Y and no one uses Y. Since no one uses X, an enterprising player is free to once again bring Y.

If you can find the room I'd add a second Sectarus. I usually dissolve them pretty fast when I see them come up.

I'm currently working on a similar forcemaster build using spores instead of wands and melee attacks in place of ranged.  I haven't quite gotten it working yet so I have a few questions.  1) How high do you try to get your channeling? 2) Against aggressive builds do you try to weather the storm until you've got everything in place or do you spring the trap early without a full setup? 3) Do you find more success mitigating armor with an acid splash wand or a dissolve wand?

Theoretically you could use it to avoid magebind costs, although the only way to make it worthwhile would be to move a whole bunch of already-revealed level 1 enchantments that have magebind costs all at once, so I'm not sure it would ever be very efficient.

The payoff for the dragon's better stats would probably be inability to use equipment.

He's a quick action summon, allowing you to get two summons off in the same turn. He's flying and has a great defense so he's hard to kill unless your opponent blows an unavoidable attack on him. I'm not saying he's good but he has uses. My druid opponent uses him to pull  forcefield tokens from my forcemaster and he's a pain to get rid of.

We can have the dinosaurs and the lasers in the Time Traveler vs Prehistoric Shaman expansion.

Certainly can. It's a non-flying creature or conjuration.

I wonder if WoTC owns a trademark on spider centaurs.

Rules Discussion / Re: 2 questions about reverse attack
« on: February 15, 2014, 09:44:37 AM »
Right.  Wouldn't it have the same effect on reverse attack? Step 1, I declare an attack against you. Step 2, you reveal reverse attack. Now step 2 is over, so we move on to step 3, which means I won't be able to reveal a counter reverse attack.

I've always understood reverse attack to work as wildhorn explained it. Isn't that the same mechanic that allows reverse attack to bypass a forcemaster's forcefield?

I'm 100% behind you on more dinosaurs and more spiders. And speaking of spiders: the insect sub-type.* I think giant wolf spiders and icthellids are interesting, but no ones uses them because the sub-type doesn't synergize with anything. If we could get some conjurations or equipment or something that synergized with insects I'd be real happy.

*I know, spiders aren't insects. That's not the conversation I'm trying to have right now. But if we were having that conversation I'd say I wish they'd had the arthropod sub-type instead. That would've made my inner science nerd happy and, if we every do get anything that synergizes with the sub-type, I'd have more options because the siren's probable giant crab monsters would also get the arthropod sub-type.
