Mage Wars Academy / Re: How do I order the new expansions for Academy?
« on: December 30, 2018, 08:39:12 AM »
Can anyone confirm that the Academy Druid sold out and that more are on the way?

I saw it promoted on Arcane Wonder's website but then it vanished. Amazon and other game sites are saying new sets are out of stock. Given that the Elementalist was originally rumored to be released at the same time as the Druid, this seems like an issue on the manufacturing side.  :-\

I have a question about a scenario that I think I know the answer to but would appreciate confirmation from those more involved in the rules than me.

The scenario involves a guarding creature capable of a push effect with its counterattack, a flying creature making the attack, and a wall with the passage attacks trait. For clarity, we can use the [mwcard=psc23]Shoalsdeep Tidecaller[/mwcard] guarding, the [mwcard=PSC06]Crusader Griffin[/mwcard] attacking, and a [mwcard=PSW01]Coral Barrier[/mwcard] as the wall.

The question is if during the counterstrike step the Tidecaller makes the push effect, could it push the attacking Griffin through the Coral Barrier, triggering the passage attack?

I think the answer is yes but please correct me if I am wrong. My reasoning is since the Griffin is attacking a non-flying creature, it lost the flying trait for the duration of the attack. Unless I am mistaken, the push effect, and the passage attack of the Coral Barrier, is resolved during the attack (specifically the counterstrike step), and thus before the Griffin regains the flying trait.

Is my interpretation correct?

Player Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Question about the design of PvS

I understand what you are getting at with Ring of Tides but I do not think it is actually comparable with the other rings. The key difference is that Rings of tides boosts hydro zone attacks (Tsunami) while the range +1 trait of the other rings does not. I think the card designers and playtesters concluded this difference made Ring of Tides very strong and thus needed to be limited to Siren.

As for the Siren using fire spells, I was also surprised she does not pay triple. The one justification I can think of is hydro is poor against plants and the designers did not want to handicap her too much. I think that is a bit weak but it is the best idea I can think of.

Rules Discussion / Re: Chant of Rage + Crusader Griffin
« on: November 11, 2016, 06:52:45 PM »
This seems like a question of when/how often a check is made for mandatory actions. It is agreed that when the griffin is activated, the mandatory actions for Chant of Hate is checked and the griffin must move one zone closer. The question to me is after moving one zone, are the mandatory actions for Chant of Hate checked again? If yes and movement is still uninhibited, then the griffin must move again, (and following this logic, if uninhibited, attack the mandatory target). If there is not a check after the first movement, then Zuberi would be correct and griffin has the option to stop and take other actions. However, even in that ruling I do not think it makes sense for the griffin to have the option of taking a second move action to a zone that does not move it closer. It would be able to wait or attack another creature in that middle zone, ect.

Given that after the first movement action there is a check for things like hindrance and zone enchantments triggering, I favor there also being a check for Chant of Hate and thus agree with ClockWork. But maybe that is not the correct way of thinking of mandatory actions.
