General Discussion / How has the Origins playest testing been going?
« on: June 04, 2013, 06:24:14 AM »
The point of this is not to give your build but to list the play style and what you have been testing against.

For example

FM buddy aggro Vs Wiz tele combo - Match favors Fm if you are very aggressive.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Defining a book build
« on: May 01, 2013, 01:33:18 PM »
We got into a discussion in another thread about what is a solo build. A few few questions came up what is a solo build.

We have talked before the difference between Aggro, Control, and Combo. By purest definition a solo build is a mage only with no creatures. Yes this can work but It has some big problems when it comes to action efficiently and number of actions.

I personally would recommended 1-2 creatures in a build. This is closet I have seen builds get to the solo and still be affective.

Strategy and Tactics / Aggro, Combo, Control & Hybrid Archtypes
« on: October 23, 2012, 09:45:50 AM »
If you have not had a chance to read it Jeff Cunningham did an break down back in 2007 of Aggro, Combo, and Control and the hybrid forms of each archetype. Even though the main focus is about MtG it can be applied to many aspects of MW.

This will be the basis of this thread.

Aggro
Currently we have 3 aggro styles that players are looking to build.
1 Creature swarm / overrun
2 Monster build - One - Two well buffed creatures and your mage
3 All in mage centric

Control
We have talked about a few options for control builds.
1 Mana Drain
2 Zone Control - example of this would be the archer, wall build

Combo
Currently this is the least popular of all the builds. I know a few combos that can be included in builds but I have yet to come up if a combo worth building around.

Combo / Control
1 DoT (Damage over Time) build - this use constant effect like Ghoul Rot, Malcoda, Idol of Pestilence, Chains of Agony, and Mage Bane to slowly eat away the health of the opposing army. While you have mass regen effects to keep your stuff alive.

What I want the goal of this thread to be is the sharing of information and Ideas to help develop new builds playtest them and see how viable they are on a tourney level. If this thread gets too long each archetype will get its own thread. If you come up with something new I want to see how it holds up to the current know builds

General Discussion / Necro Posting cutoff
« on: October 11, 2012, 03:44:13 PM »
Necroposting

[strike]The act of posting in a forum thread that is too old to matter any more, or has served it's purpose.
Usually by new, inexperienced members of the board.[/strike]

Since a few of you asked this is a cleaner less abrasive definition.

1. To bump a thread on an Internet forum is to post a reply to it purely in order to raise the thread's profile. This will typically return it to the top of the list of active threads

2. To post, as on a forum, to revive a long inactive discussion thread

Now that I have clarified what necroposting is how long should it be till a thread is declared dead?

One Month

Six weeks

Two Months

No Limit?

I personally like to give a thread one month of no further responses before I call it dead. I want to know what the community thinks.

Spellbook Design and Construction / Damage over Time
« on: October 10, 2012, 02:11:48 PM »
Klaxas and I talked about a tactic that uses Idol of Pestilence, Poison Gas Cloud, Chains of Agony, Tangle Vine, Force Hold, Wall of stone, Ghoul Rot, and Teleport you lock the creatures in place and keep the Damage over Time eating away at creatures. To slow down your Damage use unicorn, Regrowth Belt, Tree of life. I also added Malcoda and Skeleton Solider into my build.

Another thing is use Wall Of Thorns and Force Push to knockback any threats and damage them.

Has anybody else tried something similar?

Have you tried this build?

What do you think Strengths / Weaknesses ?

Well I would just like to say that I am really glad that people shared their views on this thread. Whether because of it or not, I cannot say but the MW team has put up a survey on their facebook page about how you would like to address obtaining additional cards. So head over there and make your opinion count! :)

General Discussion / Gencon 2012
« on: August 14, 2012, 12:32:09 PM »
First and fore most to all people attending Gencon.

From all us MODS, the Arcane Wonders, and the rest of the Mage Wars extended family have a safe trip and enjoy the show.

Now to the point of this thread.
I am setting this up so you can talk about your Mage War experience at Gencon. Since most of us are traveling today or tomorrow I wanted this thread up before I left (7am est ). I made this a temp sticky thread so if you get a chance to post while in Indy you can find this quickly.

Did you take the demo?

Did you play in a Mage Wars apprentice event?

Did you get a copy of Mage Wars?

Did you get a chance to play the full game?
