   :) :) :)
we voted but we didn't know on what!

for me the nightmare creature was a metamorph or had no morph at all.
it would act in the dreams of his target pulling on its fears (that can have a visual character, or be a feeling, a smell, a noise,...).

A creature in Mage Wars must have health. Seems weird if it is a smell or a dream...

I totally agree that we voted on something we all had different perspective on at the time. However, doesn't it make it more fun further down this exercise?  :)

Yeah I was thinking something similar (but different) to the invisible stalker, cause I loved that concept and would like to see it more viable.

an etheral creature can have health being "nothing"!

I'm leaving for a convention today, but I'll try to get the next phase of card creation out there for everyone tonight!

But aren't all ethereal and incorporeal creature in Mage Wars physical in some sense. Even the Grey Wrath.
A smell is just a little bit more abstract. But a very fun idea.

I would imagine a smell independent of anything creating (or giving off) it, would be an incantation spell. Unless you give some sort of autonomy to a smell, I don't think it would be a creature. When you give it autonomy I think it would have to be sensed in some sort of way (in this way smell) and thus can be destroyed.

Incorporeal is a hard thing to pin down. By definition, it is something without matter or physical existence. According to real world physics, that means it would have to be made up of one of the fundamental forces of nature such as magnetism or gravity. Of course in a fantasy setting, you could also use the fundamental force of magic to explain it, or a spiritual force. Why physical attacks are able to damage them at all is a little difficult to grasp, but my best explanation is that it is the kinetic energy of the blow rather than any physical contact that it is doing the damage. It could also have to do with the gravity and other forces being exuded by the object you attack with. Regardless, it is not very powerful against them. You need an attack that also transcends the physical, i.e. ethereal, in order to damage them.

So, basically the answer is "Magic," which does indeed allow for a sentient smell personified if that is what people want. That's not really something I'm on board for though.

Same here. I really like the poll method to bring the community creature alive.

This is the nightmare I like to see: https://www.google.se/search?q=nightmare&client=ms-android-google&prmd=ivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAWoVChMIu9qJ8tWNyAIVSZMsCh0RVgj7&biw=360&bih=511#tbm=isch&q=nightmare+fantasy+art&imgrc=WWWsj-Q1R_VXKM%3A
I hope you mean the thing in the background rather than the gunslinger.
I like it. some black-colored creature with eyes and mouths everywhere.

The gunslinger and the mouths are one and the same.  It's Alucard from Hellsing.

So what is a nightmare creature?

1)It could be a creature made out of shadows which have been made tangible. humanoid, quadraped, could-shaped, whatever.

2)It could be a creature made nightmarish. A corrupted animal. like a wolf with eyes and mouths everywhere.

3) The embodiment of peoples nightmares

4) a human who uses nightmares as a weapon or is made of nightmares?

5)the nightmare horse

I love this list, and propose narrowing down this field of possibilities be our next task. I still like that picture that was posted earlier, and thus would support options 2 and/or 4. A humanoid duelist corrupted by or made from nightmares.

This reminds me of Christopher Carrion from Clive Barker's Abarat. He wears a collar filled with a fluid and has two tubes sprouting from his head that extract his nightmares wich swim in the fluid. Christopher breathes his own nightmares. Always.

Well, I don't really have a clue about Mage Wars Lore, but is there maybe something akin to a Dream Plane or Dimension of Nightmares?

E.g. Dal Quor is the Plane of Dreams in D&D's Eberron Setting, inhabited by Quori, who have power over dreams.

Another good fit would be something like Forgotten Realms' Feyr, which are 'formed when residual magical energies combine with ordinary nightmares'.
