Mages / Re: Thoughts about the Priestess
« on: May 23, 2018, 06:03:58 PM »
I tend to find many people overate the priestess over the other two holy mages.

Training wise the paladin is better, that's just a fact (as of now). And to be honest, I don't think Divine Reward and Restore plus the 10 channeling is as good as level two war training, Divine Challenge, and Auras.

Whenever I see people play the priest like the priestess (no cheap Holy Avenger, meditation amulet with Temple of Asyra) I cry because if you are not making use out of a mages abilities/training, why are you playing that mage?

That being said, she is very strong, even if I rarely lose to her with paladin. ;)

My point is if you don't have a solution and don't pose a question in your initial post, what is the point of it? It's like saying the murderer is going to strike again and not trying to stop him, without a solution to the stated problem, stating the problem isn't useful.

I rarely write anything in here anymore. But this time I have to.

I will try to not point my finger at anyone, but don't you guys see how you reacts to Borgs well formulated analysis? He (she?) presents a theory based on objective numbers where he asks about the community opinion. No where I can't see he throwing any bad words about the game I'm sure he would love to see flourish. And in return you give him over exaggerated feelings as a reply, instead of constructive feedback. That is not a welcoming community. Improve! You don't have many more in here to loose.

The question Borg has is very valid, and where to discuss it if not here?
How are we supposed to give feedback if all he provides are numbers and no real solutions to the problem at hand?

If you want more Mage Wars, convince other people to buy more Mage Wars products, it will give AW an incentive to spend more on advertising and development because Mage Wars will be more profitable than it currently is.  Otherwise, we will continue as we have for the last few years.

That's exactly my point.
MW is NOT profitable anymore at this point in time. That's exactly what those declining votes indicate imo.
That's the simple and basic reason why we haven't gotten an Arena expansion in over a year and why there is nothing in the plans for the near future either.

Even the planned 4 academy expansions are looking like a real longshot now.

... about the game I'm sure he would love to see flourish.

Thanks fas723.
You nailed every point right on the head and especially the quote above.
Why didn't you specify that point in the initial post? It would make it a lot clearer as to what you think the issues are.

Also, I'd really like to see your solution (s) to this problem since without any provided, the entire post doesn't really serve the general public anything. At least ask us what we would do, that facilitates discussion.

Why focus so many points on attack spells?  You could easily get more utility from putting in an Elemental Wand.  You are also quite vulnerable to ranged attacks because you are lacking a couple of Guardian Angels.  With only six creatures, you will also find that creature heavy books like Necromancers and Warlords will overwhelm your defenses pretty quickly without suffering much in the way of pain.  I would also suggest adding a Mage Wand and a couple of Teleports and I would replace the Colossus Belt with a Regrowth or Veteran's Belt (Priestesses should not care about condition markers, as they can remove them with minimal effort).
Disregarding the other points, no a creature heavy book will not overwhelm his defenses quickly without suffering much in terms of damage. That just is not true, I know I have and I'm sure Dave and many others have played against such strategies and been just fine. As long as you play the matchup well, you won't get overwhelmed.

I think the reason so many of us reacted negatively is because we don't care for an analysis. We don't want to know/particularly care about the numbers Borg presents because they don't change anything we already know. We know the community is not as active as we would like. We know players (including) him have left the game. What we don't care for is an analysis of the game which presents us with facts we have known for a while.

I have one question for you Borg: why do you care about showing that Mage Wars is dying?

You aren't an active member of the community any more and that is totally fine. You've found a new passion/rekindled an old one (Magic) and I'm glad for you.

I just don't understand why you made an effort to come back and tell us the numbers if you don't really have much of a taste for arena anymore. My first assumption would be that someone who left would not want to deal with the left community, especially if they think the game is dead. I would not expect them to look at the numbers of why the game "died" and relate these numbers to the still playing community.

No they were never posted. If you really want to see them, I'd ask Grizz, I'm sure he has records somewhere.

General Discussion / Re: Questions about OCTGN meta
« on: May 03, 2018, 05:45:31 PM »
I think the one issue with the Temple of Light ruling is that Ballista and Akiro's Hammer don't require mana, just can only be used every other round. Ballista is 5 every other round with piercing 3 and doesn't need any buffs. Temple could be 1 die every round for free or youd have to buff it with multiple zone exclusives to get more dice. I think paying mana in addition to that was a bit much if Ballista/Hammer are free actions.

Side note: I have thought for a long time that the Ballista and the Hammer should not get an automatic load token, but instead require a Soldier to spend an action to place a load token on it. Up to two soldiers per round. In the same way that the Temple of A can employ Clerics prayers. It wouldbe nicely thematic, too: kill the crew, nullify the artillery.
/side note
I don't think ballista needs a nerf since if it only gets one shot off and is killed with mana equal to or less to it's cost, you get a net win as the opponent if you play the situation correctly.

I was fine with Temple of Light nerf. And Battle Fury nerf. But I feel Rushdown (SprintForcePush / SprintOGTeleport) already balanced HoBS spam perfectly. If you lost to a Mage who casted 6 HoBS, you did a lot wrong that game; starting with allowing all that cheese to happen.

I feel Holy Only was the proper nerf as HoBS really finds Added Value in 4-melee-Mage books.

IF/WHEN Tsunami is nerfed, please consider Siren Only (it's too much Added Value for Druids).
Is Druid the only mage you are concerned about running Tsunami?

Hi. Are there any strategies that are viable against a good druid player besides tanking or killing her creatures? And do any such strategies exist which only use two creatures?

I have been having a lot of trouble getting more aggressive decks to work against druid.

Perhaps coincidentally I've also noticed that the OCTGN meta usually tends to use longer game strategies, it seems like nearly every competitive deck I encounter on there uses wands, and nearly everything either uses a spawnpoint or has at least 3-4 creatures.

I'm getting really bored of this and I want more variety, but every time I try to make a deck that doesn't use at least 3-4 creatures or doesn't use a spawnpoint, it fails miserably.

Help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!
I'd watch players like Sharkbait to learn how they operate without using a creature spawnpoint. Especially since playing such books yourself doesn't seem to worked out how you would have liked.

Player Feedback and Suggestions / Re: How to make Mage Wars faster

Doesn't "Lesser Teleport" already make the game extremely faster?
I'm not convinced rushing with lesser teleport is that used or viable as of yet.

I do admit, though, that it would be a little unfair for Ehren if with a Battle Fury he gets one attack at 5 dice and the second attack at only 1 die.
That's how most people play it.
