Spells / Crown of Protection
« on: May 24, 2015, 08:24:44 PM »
Is it just me or is [mwcard=MW1Q03]Crown of Protection[/mwcard] just awesome?

I never seriously considered it. When I was making a Priestess or Priest spellbook, this piece of equipment would usually be the spell the would go out when I needed one or 2 spb to get to 120.

However, I used it yesterday and, when not dispelled , can make virtually any creature unstoppable! Use it  enough times on either an already strong creature like [mwcard=MW1C06]Brogan Bloodstone[/mwcard] or [mwcard=MW1C22]Knight of Westlock[/mwcard] or a weaker creature like an [mwcard=MWSTX2FFC01]Asyran Defender[/mwcard] or an [mwcard=MW1C02]Asyran Cleric[/mwcard] and you are basically giving them the resilient trait.

Granted, Rhino is cheaper but can be dispelled. Once the +1 armor tokens are on a creature, only corrode tokens can take them out.

I got the Idea after an opponent won but stacking armor on a Wall with [mwcard=MWSTX2FFC09]Otto Kronig, Master Engineer[/mwcard]. There was nothing a could do... No LoS and no way to destroy the wall, I was fried.

I did the same: stacking armor on my creatures and they served me very well!

It takes some time to set up, but isn't the priestess one of the best in survival mode?

Worst case scenario: the crown gets dissolve. So what, your opponent just lost a level one spell on your level one spell. I'm okay with that. Plus, that's one less dissolved for more dangerous equipment.

Spells / Moonglow Faerie
« on: May 20, 2015, 03:01:12 PM »
In the series "Spells that exist but rarely end up in any Spellbook", I nominate [mwcard=MW1C27]Moonglow Faerie[/mwcard].

Has anybody found use to this creature spell?

So far, all I can see is the following, and she's not even the best for these applications:

1- It's a flying creature, so less easily damaged, and has a 58% chance of avoiding attacks, great reusable defense. All right, she can survive, but for what? 2 to 6 SPB invested in what?

2- Great weapon against incorporeal objects, but [mwcard=MWSTX1CKE02]Divine Might[/mwcard] and [mwcard=MW1Q18]Mage Staff[/mwcard] do it better for less mana.

3- Great for triggering guards, a Forcefield or a Voltaric shield.  Agreed, but so can any other cheaper creature (Feral bobcat, for instance)

Okay, I got that far. Any other reason I should include her in any of my spellbooks?

General Discussion / No more MW Mondays?
« on: May 20, 2015, 10:42:36 AM »
I feel like it's been a while we didn't get a new episode. Last one was on the spoiler about Astral Anchor and then nothing...

Any new episodes coming soon?

Spellbook Design and Construction / Ichthellids and demons
« on: April 14, 2015, 02:26:16 PM »
I've been wanting to use [mwcard=DNC05]Ichthellid[/mwcard] for a while now and didn't know how. After searching the forums for a bit, I realized that an Ichthellid based Necromancer is very difficult to pull off and would only work against a swarm  or level 1  creatures spellbook.

So, after thinking about it, I came up with a strategy that just might work: using Ichthellid larvas on my own creatures! Obviously, I need living creatures so Necromancer is out of the question. I would preferably need level 1 or 2 creatures that I can summon every turn, so my guess is: Adramalech Warlock.

Here is the idea: summon one or two Ichthellids and a few cheap demons (mainly [mwcard=MW1C15]Firebrand Imp[/mwcard], [mwcard=MWSTX2FFC13]Wildfire Imp[/mwcard] and [mwcard=MWSTX2FFC08]Infernian Scourger[/mwcard] as of this print), attack and impregnate my own demons, send them to attack the enemy, beefing them by burning the opponent and sacrificing the Ichthellid with [mwcard=MW1J20]Sacrificial Altar[/mwcard]. They won't stay alive more than one turn, but it's part of the plan. Once they die, they respawn for free into an Ichthellid. At this point, I'm gaining an advantage: the newly hatched Ichthellid will come back right where the previous demon was destroyed, in range to hit right away next turn.

If that works, I basically found a way to extend my Imps' life, and I'm constantly keeping the same number of creatures in play without paying their mana cost.

That's my strategy: is it doable? Am I being too optimistic? I have all expansions, what would be the best cards to use for this spellbook? What would be the problems I can encounter?

Strategy and Tactics / Vampirism vs friendly attacks
« on: April 14, 2015, 08:46:06 AM »

So, here's a neat little trick. You have vampirism on you but can't or don't want to get close enough to the enemy to use it? Use it on one of your own living creatures. Include a small weak creature in your spellbook at the end and use it to heal yourself.  Good combo: use vampirism on your mage and attack a creature with vampirism or regen!

Of course, you'd have to distract your opponent for a turn or two in order to do that, but it might just work!

I saw some topics related to the subject, but none, to my knowledge, that answer that very specific question (let me know if I'm wrong please):

Can I put a face down enchantment on an illegal target? (Bear Strength on a non-living creature, Harmonize on an object without channeling, eagle wings on a mage, etc.)

From what I understand, if I reveal the enchantment and the target is illegal, then it is automatically destroyed. However, as long as it's face down, this shouldn't matter, right?

Then, I can use Shift Enchantment or Enchantment Transfusion to put it on a legal target before revealing it.

Also, related question: What if Sersiryx or Sectarus casted a non-curse spell (decoy or anything else.) I guess it would, again, be destroyed when revealed, but as long as it's face down, it doesn't matter.

Why would I do that? To play a mind game against the opponent, of course.

Thank you,

« on: February 22, 2015, 01:17:50 PM »
Hi everybody,

I live in Montreal and am looking for MW players. My brother and I have been now playing for a year and we want to start finding other opponents.

Thanks!
