Mr. Pope,

First of all me and my friends and family (my son) love this game. We went all the way to Gen Con to compete plus get the new expansion (Druid/Necromancer).

I would like to thank you in the forums for the nice Christmas gift (I was suprise what I got in the mail when I opened it) you gave us from Arcane Wonders for pre-ordering the Necro/Druid expansion. I am sure other people who pre-ordered got the same or people who went to GenCon got something.. We will definitely use it in all our spellbooks.  Now my son's zombie deck just got more powerful with some of these cards that we didn't have initially.

General Discussion / Anybody going to Chicago C2E2 tomorrow?

Just wondering.

I saw in one of the games in the Chicago convention Friday to Sunday that there is some free game for Magewars. I am wondering if this is being done by a vendor or just by a fan?

The convention has the normal comics + movies crowd but they have some gaming. The convention is in McCormick Center (biggest convention center in Chicago).

I'll see if I bring some of my spell books tomorrow if anybody shows up for some gaming or I can just play and demo it for others to see (I'll just beat my co-worker) with my own spell book (knowing that he would not know how to play it). I demoed the game to at least 2 co-workers and at least one bought his own core set. The other one has not bought yet because he probably just need to pick one up in a store if he sees one. He may pick up one tomorrow if there is a vendor over there that sells Magewars.

Not sure if Arcane Wonders will show up in Chicago convention this weekend.

Anyway, if I do not see Arcane Wonders this weekend, I'll just shoot to see them in Gencon.

Aside from the normal fix buildings the Goblin builder is not used a lot.

For some reason, this Goblin builder always gets push aside but these are the techniques I used or am planning on using him..

1) Goblin Builder to set traps Mangler Caltrops
2) Goblin Builder to set walls on unsuspecting escapee or would be attacker.
3) Goblin Builder to walk away from battle and setup the catapult from a distance.
4) Goblin Builder to build towers for placement
5) Goblin Builder walking around the Arena building temples (you can play this with Mass temples).
- Use the one that either gives you reroll or the one that gives you +1 melee/+1 defense or heal.
6) Goblin Builder to wake up sleeping allies with 2 attack dice.

Even though the Mangler Caltrops does not damage them when you cast it in a zone with enemy creatures, they still get hindered though..

Questions:
1) Did you ever use the Goblin Builder successfully and what did he do?
2) Do you use the Goblin Builder normally as part of your force or do you strip down your Warlord deck to not include him?

Recently I have been stripping him out of my Warlord deck but plan on using him on speciality deck (mass temples) and others..

Rules Discussion / Mind Control versus Pets/Blood Reaper?

In another thread I learned that you cannot Mind Control Thorg because he is "Warlord only".

Would that also hold true for Pet and Blood Reaper? Can they be mind controlled or because they are inherent for Warlock and Beastmaster - you can't, right?

Can somebody shine in on this?

Rules Discussion / Can you push flying creatures into a wall?

Just curious about flying rules:

 if a flying creature always can see above a wall (so technically they are above the wall), can you push (Force push) them to a wall or push them through a wall with a passive attack trait? My opponent may argue that they are way above the wall..

Just preparing for a battle with flying creatures. I am playing Forcemaster where I have tons of push spells. I just want to be ready with this rule.

Okay, I know that the team is going to GenCon this year.

I already booked my tickets and hotel stay.

Most likely different players will have questions about it.

Let me start:

This way I know where to head to in Gencon and what to do.

Let (0,0) be your starting zone and think of the 2nd quadrant as the coordinates.

Turn 1: Mana 19

Quick Cast: Tower on (0,1) = 4 mana
Move to (-1,0) quick cast barracks on (-1,0) = 12 mana

Barracks should have 2 mana (1 from tower and 1 from itself)

Turn 2: Mana 12

Quick Cast: Mana Crystal (0,0) = 5 mana (channeling = 10)
Move to (-1,1) and quick cast Tower on (-2, 1) = 4 mana

Barracks should have 3 + 2 = 5

Turn 3: Mana 13

Deployment (5 mana + 10 from mage) = Sniper
Move back to (-1,0) and save the 3 remaining mana or cast an enchantment face down somewhere (like Hawkeye to Sniper).

Turn 4: 13 mana + Barrack 3 mana

Depending where the opponent mage is - he may get worried that the Sniper is out to be too aggressive on Turn 4. If the opponent mage backs up. Send your Sniper to the (0,1) tower.

One other technique I see that is viable is at Turn 4, depending if you opponent mage is aggressive or not you may call on the Iron Golem to be moved into the Tower where your Sniper is. Or you may scare your opponent if they are coming close. If they are still building then you may call a Goblin range or fling to go to your other tower (-2, 1). The point here is that you have two towers at a zone apart so wherever your opponent may come they will get sniped by at least 4 dice unless you call for Volley +1 range.  If they come too close to your starting area the sniper will take care of them.

This is pretty much a good startup because each turn after this, you can call on major help or support with at least 13 mana to play with for soldiers.

What do you think?

What is really funny is if your opponent comes too close in range of your two towers, you can technically wall him in stone or make him get force into your barracks wherein you may have multiple enchantment and upgrades.

Rules Discussion / Circle of lightning + Circle of Fire

What if I cast both of these spells on me?

1) Circle of Lightning
and
2) Circle of Fire

How does that play if I am attacked and damage? Do I role 2 times with their corresponding effect die, 1 for each?

So if my Warlock has Demon Armor + Circle of Lightning + Circle of Fire = 5 dice total with 2 effect dice (rolled separately), right?

This really equates to Warlock anti swarm.

What is the level of the Mage when you push him through a wall of thorns?

How many attacks does the wall get (n-1)?

Certain creatures are just too big to move (Hyrda, Gorgon and others).

If I enchant them with Fast would it cancel slow?
